Subject: Happy Mother's Day

Harm's mother was mentioned in many episodes but only appeared in three, can you name them? What was the "occasion" for each visit? Who was the one doing the visiting? Was Harm a lousy son as Mac once claimed he was?

The second was "Flight Risk" in Season 6, when Trish visits Harm on her way from a trip with Frank. The third was "Family Secrets", again in Season 6, when Harm visits to tell Trish he intends to go to Russia to look for Sergei.

[> The first and last photos his mom looks so hurt. First finding out Harm Sr might be alive in Russia and then finding out her husband had a child while in Russia. The middle one she looks so happy, it was after she and Frank renewed their vows. I remember thinking 'I wonder how she felt finding out Harm Sr was alive and she had remarried'. I wonder if that whole story line is why Harm had a difficult time committing to someone. He didn't want to leave a wife with the agony his mom went through. Just one of those side thoughts to the show. -- usmgrad, 21:12:00 05/10/15 Sun

[> [> Since Harm's father died in Russia before Sergei was born, and Trish and Frank only renewed their vows in Season 6, AFTER she heard what Harm had told her about his search, I think she wanted to tie up loose ends with her marriage to Frank. She may have always felt she was cheating on Harm Sr. until Harm Jr. discovered the truth. -- The Chief, 13:49:43 05/14/15 Thu

"The ghost of your father has always been between us." and then he goes on to say, "Your mom needs closure as much as you do."

I've always assumed that the first sentence and the gesture were both meant to indicate Frank was referring to Trish, not Harm. So yeah, I think it's quite likely she struggled at times with the thought of having betrayed Harm Sr. Her own words were that she'd always held a little bit back, waiting for Harm Sr. And Frank either knew because they'd talked about it or could tell. That he never seems to have let it affect his commitment makes him an incredible man, in my book.

[> As to whether he was a good son, considering the time and effort he put into finding his father and how easily he accepted Sergei, if he really couldn't remember the last time he'd called his mother, then I agree with Mac. -- yiota, 01:49:45 05/11/15 Mon

It could be as simple as she was away somewhere and phoning wasn't easy, e.g. on a cruise ship.

Or maybe his mother had done most of the ringing lately. Perhaps she may have been ringing Mattie regularly and then if Harm was around, he'd speak to his mother and if not, he wouldn't. No reason to believe just because he hadn't told Mac about Mattie that he hadn't told his mother.

And also, we know Harm was someone who'd write letters:
"...either you're a very prolific writer or she saved every single letter you ever sent to her." - Skeleton Crew

And there's also e-mail.

Maybe Harm and his mother kept in contact by various means and it wasn't a case of not having been in touch recently but answering a specific point, i.e. when did HE last PHONE HER.

[> i think they wanted us to think he was a good son because he flew to tell her about sergei before she read about it in the papers - that's not something an uncaring son worries about - but they really didn't show that threw the years at all -- chris k, 12:16:00 05/13/15 Wed
