Twins Daddy: Calm down and take a deep breath? Why? I'm not crying about yesterday's loss. I saw it coming weeks ago. I tried to tell everyone not to get their hopes up, that the team had too many deficiencies...lacking key players at key positions, I think I called it. I am not calling for coaches to be fired. I am just asking for perspective? You say, "that's no reason to jump ship, which is what you almost sound like you're doing..."

How absolutely absurd of you to say that.

By the way, just for a little more perspective on Walsh's 1986 playoff loss to the NY Giants, 49-3. You are right, nobody questioned Walsh - he had done a terrific job building a squad through the draft AND free agency (Joe Cribbs, Tom Cousineau, Russ Francis, Jeff Kemp, Wendel Tyler, Kenny Margerum, Manu Tuiasosopo, Tory Nixon, etc.)...of course these were the days when Eddie DeBartolo outspent everybody...and his offense was the new standard...his coaches were the most respected (Holmgren, Rhodes).

In fact, after this crushing loss, nobody was saying the Walsh's totally dominated offense (ONLY 3 points) needed more power on the offensive line (which consisted of Fahnhorst, Paris, Cross, McIntyre, Quillen, Wallace, Ayers), or an improved #2WR (Rice, Clark, Wison, Margerum, ), or another complimentary tightend (Francis & Frank). The runningbacks on the 1986 roster were Tyler, Cribbs, Rathman and Craig...no apparent needs there. Are we clear about the talent? THREE POINTS!

For that matter, nobody would have suggested Walsh needed to upgrade his pass rush (Tuiasosopo, Michael Carter, Charles Haley, Jim Stuckey, Dwaine Board, Larry Roberts) or that he needed a better nickelback (he had Wright, Lott, Griffen, Fuller, McKyer, Williamson, Nixon, McLemore, Holmoe). His kicker was Wersching.

Hell, the ONLY thing Walsh needed was a better backup to Joe Montana...so he traded for Steve Young shortly after the loss.

So, everyone is readily admitting that Mariucci's team has serious deficiencies...needing everything that Walsh had, from a solid offensive line - the foundation of any offense, to an impact #2WR, to a quarterback who can lead in the WCO like Montana. Oh, and he needs cornerbacks and a pass rush. You can scrutinize Mariucci for some play calling, or clock management...but he turned the youngest team in the NFL from a 6-10 to 12-4...in one season. That man can coach.

By the way...check out that defensive personnel again. They gave up 49 points to Phil Simms! The defensive coordinator was Ray Rhodes.

I'm not crying 2winspapa...I am laughing.
