Well I am recently new to this forum, I've been reading some of your posts, I don't believe I can always keep up with all the posts (I think that is why I have never posted in the past). Here's my take on the Niners. I think that Marriucci is a good coach, I don't think he is a great coach. I like his personality. I really don't know how much input he has as to the direction of the offense, but it seems he has quite a bit. The only way I can see the Niners moving forward is two scenarios:
1) Let Mariucci go, I trust Bill Walsh and Donahue to bring in a new coaching staff that will reunite the Bill Walsh Offense.
2) Keep Mariucci but insist that he let go of his OC and DC. Then, bring someone in to coach the defense that has bite to him, aggressive style like Ray Rhodes. On Offense, the coordinator would have to have a good grasp on working with the talent they have and push the Bill Walsh Offense, use more receivers and less side ways passing.
Players thoughts: I read anyone recently talking about Garrison Hearst. I like him, he does do an excellent job at picking up the blitz and he is a good rusher. However, according to Bill Walsh's book, when you have a stud player up and coming and needs opportunities to grow let the veteran go (i.e., TO and letting JR go). In this case, I think Kevin Barlow will be a great runner for the Niners and I would like to see GH traded to a team for another strong pass rusher to complement Andre Carter.
On Garcia, I had lost respect for him until last week when I realized that the coaching is not properly utilizing his talents. I think Garcia can take us to the promise Land, but he needs to be coached to see the whole field better, and be allowed to get into a groove.
As for the defense, except for the DL, I am really excited to see what the Niners have. This would include Rumph. With a year under his belt, I believe that he can eventually take over webster's spot (just my opinion).
And lastly, we need to find a good punt and kick returner, it would also be good to find a strong kicking leg as well. I'm sorry for the long post, I hope I don't get to crucified my first post.
