The lead was unassailable.

And it wasn't a question of flukes...or poor calls...or the wierd bounces of the ball.

We're talking clean, unadulterated, physical domination.

And then in the fourth quarter, one team folded it's tents...and the other nutted up...played hard...played with a mixture of poise and passion.

And assailed the hell out of the unassailable.

I think some small props have to go to the St. Louis Rams for showing the Niners just what can happen if you don't quit.

And as annoyed as I've been with him over the last couple of years...my Offensive MVP...heck, my Game MVP has to go to that Sharpie using, Pom-Pom waving, Dancing Drum Major of a Wide Receiver...Terrell Owens!!!!

I don't think I've ever seen a Wide Receiver take a team on his shoulders and carry them to a win before...and I've watched every game Jerry Rice ever played as a Niner.

He made the half time speech.

He rallied the offensive players on the sidelines and told them to keep the faith.

And he caught the short passes, and ran through the tackles that produced the TDs. Jeez, he even got to throw that 25 yard pass. (It was a play they'd tried before...but this time it worked!)

And major props to the offensive line...and their back-ups. Did the Giants even have a defensive line on the field in the second half?

Re: the defensive shift in the second half.

In the Chron Lynch has an aritcle about the defensive adjustment. Plummer had been playing with a badly strained groin...and wasn't able to get it done against Toomer. So Mora finally told Smith that they were gonna go back to their base two deep Zone (mostly to help Plummer out).

Smith said, 'fine', and added to the reporter; "We wanted to get back to the defense we know best."

Oh, and one more thing.

I'd really like to thank the New York Giants for folding like a cheap, tourist trap, souvenier, Japanese fan.
