Subject: Just Want To Point Out A Couple Things

Brett Favre found himself down after the first half against the Falcons on a buggardly cold night in Lambeau Field. Too bad he couldn't muster a rally like Jeff Garcia. Then again, he didn't have Terrell Owens. But, I still thought the two games juxtaposed against eachother offered an interesting perspective...

It was great to see the team come together. The fans were great! It appeared that they really got into the heads of the Giants' players. Those bozos lost their composure. It looked like Fassell blew a gasket arguing a questionable call, Shaun Williams cracked like glass after a 5.7 on the San Andreas Fault, and the two-headed, long haired, inbred TE (Shockey-Campbell) fell into dispair and disrepute on the sideline. Very odd behavior.

ESPN Insider has a good breakdown on free agents this coming off season. I would be hard pressed to find an affordable difference maker. The specualtions is that anyone we would covet will be slapped with the "franchise tag." Here is a peek:

WR: David Boston (franchise), Peerless Price, Eddie Kennison, Kevin Dyson, Reggie Barlow, Martay Jenkins, Ike Hilliard...

OT: Luke Petigout, Walter Jones (franchise), Flozell Adams (franchise), Ryan Young, Wayne Gandy, Jerry Wunsch...

DE: Vonnie Holliday (rejected $4MM a year extension), Brad Scioli, possibly Regan Upshaw and/or Tony Brackens, Keith McKenzie...

DT: Daryl Gardner, Brandon Noble, Cletidus Hunt, Russell Davis, Steve Martin, John Thornton, Santana Dotson...

ILB Note: ESPN suggests that Derek Smith is a potential free agent because "the 49ers drafted Saleem Rasheed last year to be his eventual replacement."

CB: McAllister (franchise), Dre' Bly, possibly DeWayne Washington, Willie Williams, Kenny Wright, Westbrook...

Add these names to your draft wish list, and maybe a shrewed Donahue can complete this team in the coming offseason.

Regarding Mariucci, I don't see anyone throwing draft picks at the 49ers for the right to sign him. I would hate to step back and wait for a college coach to get up to NFL speed (if Spurrier and Butch Davis couldn't do it in one year, then we are talking about a coaching change that would set the 49ers back to 2004 or 2005...when Garcia is 35+). The only NFL coach that might be of interest is Paul Hackett (NYJ offensive coordinator).
