Hello everyone,

I'm an independent filmmaker for Ijaba Films in Albany, NY. I am in the pre-production stages of a new film featuring lock and break crews. The film will be a dance/musical presentation of the accurate history of the US. Sounds boring? Believe me it won't be. Right now I am choosing all of the music and locations to film. Once that is complete, I will be ready to pick the cast. There will be no acting, just dancing. Casting will start May 15th. I will need 5-7 crews of 3-5 people. Individuals who are interested may also audition as I may also form a crew just from indiviual dancers. Once finished, I plan to submit the film to various film festivals as well as normal distribution. All who participate will recieve a free copy and also will have an opportunity for an interview to be included in the film. This film will be done on a volunteer basis unless otherwise stated. Hey yo peeps...

Just wanted to drop some science and a few words of wisdom. I'm 33 and got in the game in '83. I've been doing my thing seriously from 13 to 18 and on and off since cause off work and family.

Todays cats have taken it to a whole new level and i see a sweet revolution comin in b-boying thanks to hard innovators and artists true to the REAL hip hop.

Anyone thinking of getting in...go for it. Breakdancing is accessible to all. It takes hard work and patience and above all, PASSION for dancing. Kick the wardrobe, the lingo, the bad attitude...breakin' is all about self- expression in movement through music and tempos. Feel the rythme and let your body move to it.

I was self taught, and i got pretty good. Enough that i was doing shows and teaching. If you have a local teaching...cool. If not, but you see a street cat droppin' some moves, hook up with'em and express your interest. Last option is to view music videos and record them and rewind/play them to hell trying to get the moves down. Word of caution: as there are basic moves in breakin' for all to do, there are signature moves for each dancer. Taking these signature moves for your own to use publicaly will label you as a biter and that is not positive. Take those moves and improve or modify them and bring them to a higher level. That is fresh!

Hip hop has 4 elements: DJing...MCing...GRAFFITY and BREAKDANCING. It's not the outerlook that matters, but what you bring to the floor that counts.

i need some advice in designing protective clothing for sports more specifically Breakdancing. The clothing will also include a cd pack for carrying cd players

What materials should i use??
i was thinking polyester basketball mesh with a 100% polyester backing.
should it be double sided for double wear?


Should the padding be either rubber, plastic or a type of foam?


Or should the padding be a mixture of both??


What colours should it have, Conflicting colours, contrasting colours, bright, dull ect??

any other variations of colours

What places should the padding be located(hips,waist,shoulders,forearms,kidneys,thighs,knees,elbows..etc)??

should the clothing have some sort of cooling system,??

what do you think of this idea??

at what age did most of you start breaking? im 18 already and i wanna start. i hope it's not too late to someday become decent at it. i'm a chick, none of my friends breakdance and i don't know anyone who does...so, i guess i'll get videos and try to learn from them. i live in hawaii, but i'm going off to San Francisco in the fall for art college. hope i can find someone to make me their protege.

i am just starting to do flares. i do it clockwise. i just need to ask a few things i start off standing with my left leg infront of my right then i swing my hands back and land on my right and kick my left leg up with my right, is that right and should my hand be landing in front of me or behind me?

colours-----yellow is good colour,for peeps who wnt 2 b noticed.-----------blue coz it is easy 2 wash out the dirty marks.....the same goes 4 black.

baggy but not 2 baggy. try to make the trouzas a light cotton or nylon as they are easy to perform in and they stop u from sweating 2 bad.

Aight well, i started to beggin to break a month ago, ordered a video, got the six step down..right now im workin on swipes, and my windmills. When doin swipes i get kinda dissey after the 3rd one, and for the windmells i cant even get the rolling started. i know the starting position for the windmills but i cant seem to get the spinning in place. Is their any excersizes that i can do to strenghten up my shoulders, wrists..etc?

How's it goin....I can seem to get my own style for the toprock...I am new at it, but I have some friends teachen me how its done. So far i can do a 6-step, coffie grinder, handstand pretty good all thanks to your site's move directions(Thankx!). I cant get my own style to the top rock. When I try sometin new, my friends say its sloppy. Can you show me some basics to start my own style please?

First I'd like to say I do enjoy reading the forums, and I am in no way part of breakdancing heaven.

Second i would like to mention that it's tiring to see the same rabble over and over again on the forum, especially something that has been answered discussed already. It is much more efficient to read over what is already posted, and if your question is related to something but not already answered, ask it in that forum, it keeps things nice and tidy.

If that was done, I might even be able to answer some questions once in awhile. :P

aight,
i had a question on my mills, i can get one nice roataion on a mill, but i can't link them yet. what is the best way to learn to link? second, i am at da point where i can almost hit a couple power moves, headspin, turtle, and mills. on headspins, i can get a half rotaion, then another, but no more, what should i do? just practice? next, on my turtle, do i take my lifted stabbed arm and take it out of my stomach, or leave it in and rotate on the one planted hand?

y0 people, sup?

I recently decided to start breaking, tried some stalls and shit, fell on my head a lot.

I have been dancing (thought not breaking) for a few years, i do a lot of raver shit. But what should I do to start off with breaking? Stretching daily for a few weeks then starting to break? Stretch then break for a while?

I want to mix style with power. Should i just pratice until i can't lift my arms? Should i buy an instructional video?

Or should i get off this board and go start dancing =)?

any help would be appreciated =)

When you try it let go later, so your heads practically under your armpit, and make sure your legs are higher than your head(try it with a headspin helmet on).
