There are two schools of thought on this question, one states that due to the fact you are using a ten fingered grip you have lost some of the leveraging distance on the club shaft using that grip so a longer shaft is needed to offset that.

The second school of thought is that Moe used longer shafts to offset the extra weight he put onto to the clubheads. Since Moe never used a ten finger grip (he used a overlapping one his entire playing career) the extra length for leverage certainly wasn't needed, expecially since Moe chokes down on all his clubs anyways!
