Bush wouldn't be in so much trouble right now, if he didn't try to bury the information. As with Enron, or Clinton's blow jobs, the sin is always in the cover-up.

I don't think they knew that jets would be flown into buildings. I suspect they were expecting the standard Hi-Jack attempts, and underestimated the degree of organization on the part of the hijackers. But I have no idea.

As for whether our policies should shoulder some of the blame for the attacks, well, I partly agree. As the country where the majority of the world's wealth flows and we are willing to kill lots of people to keep the price of bananas at 40 cents a pound, we have much to atone for. But these guys aren't much different from the scary religious fanatics we often deal with, and don't have a stake in the existing order that restrains the Falwells (though I have no doubt that if things got rough, Falwell and company wouldn't hesitate to throw you and and me into a concentration camp and burn Lona at the stake.). These people are basically fascists of the worst order, who's mindset predates the dark ages.

Our military industrial complex is responsible for a lot of crap, but not all of its victims are saints.
