Subject: While you are allowed to be disappointed, I think it is a bit much to expect a sash/big trophy just because people choose to travel from interstate. I think one big Championship per state works best, as you are more likely to get all the interstate dancers at that competition, rather than spread over a couple of events. E.g. if I were travelling to Melbourne for a competition, it’d be the McAleer as I know there’ll be dancers from all over Australia.
In reply to: Build it and they will come 's message, "Melbourne festival championships, lovely venue and wonderful adjudicators but seriously it's a championship, how about some decent prizes, sashs for top five not just the winner and the small medals in a plastic container are a joke. This should be a major event as it's only a few weeks before the start of the state championships but for the dancers that came all the way from WA it was a joke. Sashes use to be given for top five at this event and the medals have had their day , let's make this a great event in 2023 and get more interstate competitors over" on Wed, Jul 27 2022, 17:16:22"

The size of some trophies given out overseas are ridiculous, many are bigger than what you’d receive at a state/regional championship. I’m glad we aren’t going down that route.
Many branch run AIDA competitions are run at or just above cost. If they are run for profit, it’s to subsidise State competitions which would otherwise run at a loss.
AIO, McAleer, City of Adelaide are the events I’d consider to be ones that draw interstate competitors. City of Sails in Auckland have a lovely stage and prizes too, great for some NZ/Aussie competitiveness. The McGrath Feis moved to a Championship format this year and looks like a lovely competition too. But be aware that they are seeking to be eco-friendly, so perhaps better suited to dancers who want a good competition rather than trophy/sash hunters.
