Fear gripped him, its icy hand wrapping with deadly intent around his thundering heart. -Echo, no...- he whispered urgently, pain blossoming in his chocolate eyes. This couldn't happen, how could sickness take hold of such a vibrant beauty? She had always seemed to be an angel to him, too ethereal to be touched by the malicious hands of disease and death, too pure for corruption. Swinging his hindquarters around, he sidled into a position close to her, their sides touching. It was a gesture meant for support but it also comforted the stallion. Helplessness gnawed at his heart like a starving beast, harrying him to action though none could be taken. A spark of anger ignited within his tortured soul, how could a disease be so foul and malignant that not even blessed healing powers could touch it? -Is there anything I can do, anything at all?- he asked quietly, trying to keep the raw emotion from his voice for her sake. His stricken gaze flickered momentarily to Death, fear emanating from his taut body in almost tangible waves. The situation seemed so hopeless with only the faint promise of a possible cure to banish the nightmare that had taken hold of their lives. -What's the cure Echo?- His tone was pleading and insistent, if there was any hope, any at all, he would gladly take it.
