TrekGOD, I would very much apriciate it if you would respond to this...

I know the science behind the photon torpedo, but one could as easily say, "Well the photon torpedo does nothing except make a pretty light show, no damage at all!" But I have the sense not to say it because I know that the name "photon Torpedo" is not a refference to how it deals it's damage.

It might do you well to read what "The Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology" has to say on the subject of Turbolasers. Excited gas. Excited Tibana gas. Plasma"
