 Monet sighed. His heart heavy as he forced himself to let out the screaming cry of a predetor. He knew his sweet Alexis was right, yet it felt wrong. The whole thing felt somehow wrong.

He moved to lie close to Gwen. His great golden gaze heavy with sadness. ::Tend him well dear liren. He'll be very frightened when Gabriel and Rio catch up to him.::

Then he reached out to the two Jellicles. ::I need your help... That is... I have heard that some Jellicles possess healing arts. And, the chase for the boy will mean nothing if we lose his lir.::

Alexis clung tightly to Jeff as he raced through the forest. Then she heard the cry of her large tiger, though all she could see of him in the waning light was his glowing feline eyes.

Beneath her firm grip she felt every muscle in Jeff's body go tight, and she felt guilt swim through her. What right did she have? He would never forgive her when he found out what she was.

She pointed back the way they had came. "Jeff, I'd rather face that shapechange than one of those Jellicles. Please... Maybe we can swim the river!"

She held him tightly to her as the raced back the way they had just came from, and her heart sank. ::Monet, I wouldn't forgive me if I were him. We might not be able to touch his mind, but... His fear is a very tangible thing. Keep yourself hidden from him as long as you can. I'll not have him thinking me a monster too.::

Gabriel spotted the boy running back toward him and smiled in spite of himself. What could have brought the boy back this way? Again he noticed the young female. This time he shook his head.

::Rio, the boy thinks to protect that girl.::

The black she wolf moved quickly behind the running teens. Her eyes bright with the joy of the hunt. ::Careful what you say Gabriel. That young female is one of ours. She is helping by playing the part of a damsel in distress.::

Gabriel stop in the middle of the forest blocking the path of the oncoming boy. His yellow eyes looked to the girl for a minute. ::She cannot be Cheysuli. She is small and sickly. HEr skin to pale. IS she a weakly?::

Rio came fast behind Jeff and let out an almost playful back. ::You'll see Gabriel... You'll see...::

"Stop this nonsense boy. You are caught!!" Gabriel smiled, but it did not include any real joy in his task. "It is no use to run. Plus, you are tired. Come. I have food and a warm fire at my camp."

Nashota's ears pricked at the sending of all the Cheysuli, lir pairs. She turned her eyes to look at Kalea. "It looks to me like we have really stepped in it this time."

She shook her head. "What are the others going to say? We've already been told we're more trouble than any two queens should be."

She reached out and stroked the outer edge of Jeff's mind. "For a Cheysuli his is fairly closed off. Maybe they are wrong about him. Could be he's not Cheysuli at all."

Suddenly she heard Monet's plea. "Should we? We're already involved this deep."
