 This whole discussion is probably a waste of time, as the issue seems to have been decided..... however, a couple of points to add:

I am and have always been primarily a competitor in the latin/ballroom events at IVDA. However, the offbeat is to me neither all-important nor dispensible. All the arguments for and against seem to have varying levels of validity. I cannot see why people are sitting on the fence about this. Either you get rid of offbeat altogether or you let it alone. As much as i think it sad that we are forced to havea qualifier for IVDA offbeat, I can understand that it is necessary, especially given the standard of some entries. What I cannot understand or accept is the shortening in length of the offbeat pieces themselves. In my opinion, this will lead to alowering in standard of the actual entries, with just more of them, with no time to allow for the development of any story/theme/idea.... but less people will be bothered to enter as it is now so much less important to IVDA as a whole.

So by implementing the 1m45 rule, you are worsening the competition and you might as well get rid of it completely. People work very hard at the offbeat. I think it is unfair that this decision was taken without discussion on this board, nor was any time given for IVDA meeting repos to discuss it with their teams before a vote was taken.
