Subject: Jeff, Steve and I would commit if we ran the same basic rules of the old tpsa, with a spec head and intake combo and no restrictions on the short block. We feel like a "spec" head should be a newer design such as a headhunter, dart or how about Rick's new 20 degree from Brodix cnc'd out of the box. Almost the same money, but will keep the cars in the 70's and maybe the 60's. Limit the cam to 980" lift or so to make it easier on the valvetrain. Back to steel 1 piece converters. If anyone is serious about running with us this would make it affordable and still give the fans a fast show. The heads, intake, and cam would be easy to police. Rick could serial # all the heads and intake on his cnc machine to each customer. Just trying to keep it Simple, Affordable, and Fast. Thanks, Gary

[> Thought we would get more responses for our post. Good idea Tommy. As far as the short block goes, once the machine work is done, it is using " quality" components not trick stuff that makes sense. 55mm cams, light cranks, aluminum rods, and even narrowed bearings are now off the shelf items and affordable. I don't think anyone wants to buy stuff (ie: cheap lifters) that could lead to grenading a motor. Callies for example builds us cranks -offset ground stroke-small journal-narrowed bearing-balanced to our bobweight for about two grand. That is pretty cheap insurance for a lightweight crank that will go multiple seasons. Diamond builds pistons to our chamber mold to our ring land specs and weight with coatings for under two grand. You are buying top notch RELIABLE parts that will last and be fast. My opinion is don't scrimp on the short block. The big horsepower is in the induction. Gary -- ., 08/12/12 9:08am

[> You can never stop the big bucks from running up front nature of the beast. Iimiting the heads and carb you can somewhat control the horsepower -- T Platt, 08/12/12 9:48pm

[> Jeff , We really appreciate what you are trying to do. Steve and I have decided against the spec motor deal for ourselves. We have three short blocks and would be willing to go for a spec induction deal, even with limits to cam , carb or whatever, but that's it. With that being said , we wish ya'll the best of luck, but we are out. Well said Tommy. Thanks, Gary -- Winmil Racing (Gary & Steve), 08/13/12 5:58pm

[> [> I'm a little confused myself ??? DH tried to FIX TPSA the whole time I was involved. Nothing ever worked. In my opinion you are trying to fix the wrong end of the equation. If you want a viable TPSA program find a sponser / marketing partner who's willing to put up say $50K a year for prize $$ and championship $$ for say a 10 race schedule. Then go back and massage the rules and see who wants to build a car to race. Problem is the economy ain't gonna let that happen. The only other viable alternative is to tell everyone interested to put your best combination together and let's show up to race, Baseline weight is 2350#s. Be prepared to add weight up to say 2550#s, depending on how fast you are. Ain't sure that would work either but it might ??? At the end of the day everybody needs to understand that racing ain't cheap. Wanna race , go bracket racing. I did. -- Pigford (chapped), 08/21/12 9:34pm

[> Good post Joe. Sure would like to race with a TPSA type format in some manner, but it looks like Steve and I will probably be joining you in TS next year. We are waiting to see if anything flies in this deal before spending any more on our stuff. Gary -- Winmil Racing (Gary & Steve), 08/22/12 12:11pm
