Subject: I'm posting this here but I don't mean it to be an attack on Alie or anything remotely like that. it's just my thoughts about this subject on who's really to blame for Bush and his policies, his wars. I don't condemn the American people. I don't agree that "we deserve what we got". When some of you say we (meaning Americans) deserve what we got. And here's why ...
In reply to: Alie 's message, "Sorry friends, it seems Wolfowitz is lying again - the Iraq war wasn't about oil, at least not only. He just chose this lie he knew would go down easiest with his critics." on 05:14:54 06/05/03 Thu

Our news media IGNORES everything EXCEPT the stuff that is shown, as sergio said 524,000 times a day. Our elected politicians of both political parties go along with everything the White House puts out there.

I've mentioned to friends and relatives, that the Jessica Lynch rescue was staged and none of them have even heard about it! They look at me like I'm nuts!

My Grandpa livs in West Virginia and he got angry with me for saying it. There has been NOTHING about it on their local news - which carrys a lot more Jessica Lynch stories than anywhere else, since she is a local girl. He thought I was making the whole thing up because I don't like Bush as President and because I was against the war. I told him to watch the news and that pretty soon the whole thing would break wide open and it would be on CNN and everything. Well that hasn't happened and I don't think it ever will. Instead we have an NBC movie coming out that shows EXACTLY what the prefabricated rescue showed and it will be seen by MILLIONS, most likely be one of the most popular movies on TV this year, and the way the story is shown on that movie will become "fact" to everyone who watches it (except for a few people like us, who are skeptical of everything touched by this administration.)

My Dad said he saw one little thing about the Jessica Lynch rescue being staged on CNN and it was to repute it with "facts". They had a reporter on the scene and he said that the doctor's in Iraq recanted their stories.

He said they showed a doctor who admitted that the Iraqi troops had been occupying the basement of the hospital until the MORNING of the rescue, and had left only a few HOURS before the rescue and that he admitted that the US troops had no way of knowing Iraqi troops weren't still somewhere in the building.

My Dad also said the doctors and staff said they were held temporarly in custody while the rescue was taking place and that he admitted that they were treated "nice" by the American soldiers.

My Dad said that the doctor told the reporter that when one hospital staff person complained that their handcuffs were too tight, a US soldier immediately took them off and put on handcuffs that weren't as tight.

They admitted that US troops were fired upon outside on the hospital grounds.

They admitted that they were mistaken about the US troops using blanks. The doctor said he made a mistake and thought that they were blanks, but now he realizes that the US troops did NOT use blanks in their guns.

Now this is what my Dad saw and heard being reported on CNN about last Thursday, Friday or Sat. He couldn't remember for sure when he saw it. I watched CNN and never saw the report again. I checked CNN transcripts and couldn't find a transcript of that report or that interview with the Irai doctor.

NOW THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I KNOW WAS REPORTED BECAUSE MY DAD SAW IT AND I CANT EVEN FIND A WHISPER OF IT AND I WAS LOOKING FOR IT!! SO HOW CAN THE AMERICAN PEOPLE BE EXPECTED TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ANY OF THIS??? That's the only coverage I've heard about on national TV news concerning even a HINT that some FOREIGN news sources were reporting that the Jessica Lynch rescue might have been staged or over blown - and this coverage on US TV news was only to DISPUTE that claim.

When I tell people about the Jessica Lynch rescue being staged, most of them don't believe it was staged at all because they say, if what I'm saying was true, it would be on CNN or NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS....somewhere. The same holds true with everything else that is talked about on this board.

Sure, you can hunt and search and find and article here and there in US magazines or newspapers (usually buried somewhere way in the back - never headlines), but its not the TOP STORY on TV news, its not BREAKING NEWS, its not even MENTIONED on TV NEWS and most people get their news once a day at 6:00 p.m. unless they have cable, and then they get their news from CNN HEADLINE NEWS or CNN or FOX. Most Americans don't sit down and search the Internet for news except the HEADLINE STORIES at CNN.COM or FOX NEWS.

So to blame or condemn the American public seem unfair and incorrect imho. They are not psychic!! If the information isn't available for mass consumption, how are they supposed to know?

When you have the President of the United States standing up there telling the public that Saddam is going to kill all of us and our children with his WMD, and this message is repeated a zillion times, who do you think the public is going to believe? The President of the United States or Barbra Streisand and Susan Sarandon?

When you have people that you care about living in "target" cities like New York and DC, you tend to take the treats of things like nerve gas very seriously, especially when the President gets a Small Pox vaccination and Congress is issued gas masks. In light of what happened on 9-11 with ANY WARNING, this is SCARY STUFF and the President and your government representatives are on TV telling the public to be scared to death of Saddam and his intentions for those WMD.

Which do you think the average person working their 9-5 and then taking care of their kids is going to believe?? The TV news coverage that is seen in their living rooms or something printed in the foreign press that 99% of them will never see or even hear about?

If you want to blame someone for Bush being elected, then blame the Democrats. If you want to blame someone for allowing Bush to have this war then blame the Democrats. They knew what was going on and if they didn't, then they weren't doing their jobs.

They could have held press conferences. They could have given speeches instead of leaving it to a few Hollywood activists.

But except for Dennis Kuchinich, (and he is a congressman, a political light weight) none of them have the balls to speak up about anything.

Where was the new coverage of the protests BEFORE the war? Massive huge protests that were IGNORED by the US Media and more importantly they were IGNORED BY THE DEMOCRATS.

It's not fair to blame the American Public. They are busy living their day to day lives, and trust the people that they elected to have the knowledge and the courage to run the government and handle matters of national security,

The so-called liberal media supports the President and every decision he has made 110%. The only time you will hear a voice of dissent (and it's a pretty weak voice) is on a few political talk shows - and guess what - these were scaled back, some even discontinued/cancelled, because of the war, and everyone who normally questioned everything the Republicans and the President did, were very careful about publicly criticizing the President because it was pretty much considered an act of treason if you did during the war.

So if you want to blame anyone for the current state of affairs, blame the media, blame the Democrats. The American public doesn't read the British Press and wouldn't trust their coverage if they did read it. When we think of the British press we think about them publishing pictures of topless slutty models and lots of cheap gossip about Prince William and Princess Diana.

The Anerican public certainly wouldn't trust any war coverage from any Muslim or Arabic news sources, and given the bad publicity from our media and our President, they wouldn't give any credibility to anything the French or German media has to say about anything.

And if you look at it the other way around, I think it's easy to understand. Muslim and Arabs wouldn't believe anything the American media tells them. Neither do the French, German, or British public. They believe what the media in their part of the world puts out there.

And the media in any part of the world puts out news that sells. Whether it is a product or whether it is political power gained from propaganda, the news media is manipulated and biased no matter where it comes from, imho. Everyone has an agenda. And if people are subjected to that type of news 24/7 that is what they base their opinions on. American people trust the US news media more than they trust anyone else's news media. People in other parts of the world trust ANYONE ELSE'S news media more than they trust the US News media.

And I have to say, that most Americans are NOT conservatives or liberals, they are moderates. So they don't view everything that comes out of Bush's mouth as a lie. That's not a "given". Most people respect the OFFICE of the President, regardless of who the President is, especially when it comes to war and soldiers being sent somewhere, their lives being put at risk.

Many people on this board start with the assumption that anything Bush says is a lie, therefore we question anything and everything he does - assuming at the beginning that he has some motive other than what he is telling the public.

Many of us don't represent a moderate viewpoint. Many of us represent an extreme left viewpoint that isn't shared by the majority of US citizens or even most Democrat elected officials apparently.

So blaming the state of the world on the general public of the US, who are decent moderate people relying on our own media and our elected officials for information to make informed decisions about our elections, is incorrect and unfair imho. The majority of Americans did NOT vote for this administration back in 2000.

Without accurate and equal news coverage and without some prominent respected Democrat politicians with the balls to speak up and tell the public what is going on and offer an alternative, the American public will base their votes in the next election on what they believe to be the truth. And they get their information in their living rooms every night at 6:00. They always have. So it's up to the Democrats to make some noise, get their message out in the news, speak up or stop whining about it.

Right now the Republicans have wrapped themselves in the flag and in religion, two things that the American public trust. Most people are patriotic. I know I am. (Not in the sense of this gung-ho war partiotism - but I do love my country fiercely.) And most people believe in God, in some form or another.

Republicans would have you believe that Democrats are communists and atheists and that's a problem right now.

I personally don't think that Democrats stand a chance in Hell of winning the White House in 2004. The Republicans have their act together. They run a pretty tight ship and they don't put up with people who aren't in lock step with the White House. Like it or not, Bush is a leader (or the people who handle him). The Democrats are pathetic so far.

That's not the American public's fault.

That's just my opinion.
