LIKE A PUMPIN

A Lady had recently been baptized. One of her coworkers asked her what it was like to be a Christian. She was caught off guard and didn't know how to answer, but when she looked up she saw a jack-o-lantern on the desk and answered. "It's like being a pumpkin."

The coworker asked her to explain that one.

Well, God picks you from the patch and brings you in and washes off all the dirt on the outside that you got from being around all the other pumpkins.
Then he cuts off the top and takes all the yucky stuff out from inside.
He removes all those seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc. the carves you a new smiling face and puts his light inside of you to shine for all to see.
It is our choice to either stay outside and rot on the vine or come inside and something new and bright.

I'll never look at a pumpkin the same way again.

Dear family and friends,

I don't really know how to say what I feel right now, but I feel a need to try to put my feelings into words so that others can understand what is going on inside of me right now. I know that several others who come here suffer from depression also; perhaps they can relate to what I feel better than most, but even they may not comprehend completely. I have suffered with depression caused by chemical imbalance for a good deal of my life, but moreso over the past 10-15 years. I was on anti-depressants for a couple of years, but they made me feel like a zombie. I walked around in a daze most of the time and felt "nothing", until I decided that I would rather feel sad, cry at the sight of flashing lights, bawl at sudden loud noises, etc. than feel like the "walking dead". Believe me, that wasn't living; that was existing for the sake of being. There was no happiness to replace the depression, just a big void, a feeling of emptiness instead of pain. Besides, the drugs were causing many side effects, some quite serious, and they did some irreversible nerve damage before I realized that it was the medication that was doing it.

I have been in a "purple funk" since midwinter, and was doing my best to fight it off in spite of someone else's verbal attacks by e-mail and on my own messageboard, because I had the support of a dear person who helped me through the bad days, the fears, etc. Then the stress began to build up, and I started to have serious relapses of dyslexia, which made it hard to read or comprehend both written and verbal words. Just about the time I thought that I was bounding back, in early May, I was faced with a real heartbreak, a person I love dearly chose to end our relationship, for many reasons, one being she didn't understand my fear of the unknown; that sudden loss sent me into a downward spiral, deeper and deeper into a great abyss. My support is gone, my love is gone, and so is my reason for living. Now I am barely functional some days and just want it all to end once and for all. I have spent hours, days, weeks and months thinking about ending it all.

I went to the river bridge early one morning a while back and started to climb over the fenced in railing. As I looked down at the rocks below, the urge to jump was so very strong, but then I thought about the poor suckers who might have to retrieve the body and clean up the mess. They didn't do anything to me, why should I leave that bloody mess for them? My family would be embarrassed for sure, and they would probably not understand either. So I got down and went home. A couple of weeks ago, I decided that it would be better to go out onto the interstate highway in front of a tractor trailer going 65 mph or more; that should do it, or at least put me in a coma, so I couldn't feel anything anymore. It would look like an accident and be less embarrassing for those I left behind too. I had been discouraged before from doing this, because I thought about the guilt the poor driver might feel, but what the heck, they couldn't charge him with anything, and he'd get over it in time.

I got up, hugged my best friend, my dog, "goodbye", told him I loved him and to "be good" and headed out for the interstate with every intention of never coming back. Well, to make a long story a little shorter, I didn't get all the way to the interstate that morning, as I nearly got hit by a car on a city street. Shit and double damn, that danged car wasn't going fast enough to do more than make me a hood ornament, maybe break a few bones, so I ducked out of the way. I'll be damned if I'll spend weeks on my back in the hospital in traction, followed by months of physical therapy. I wound up getting hurt anyhow, tore the hell out of my knee, limped home about 10 city blocks, pushing my bike and then spent half of the day in the doctor's office having x-rays, etc.

Well, I am off the crutches, not using the walker either, and have tossed the knee brace on the chairback, except when doing stuff like mowing the lawn. I am not "supposed to be" riding the bike again till at least this weekend, however, I went for a short spin, around six blocks, yesterday on it and barely made it up the front steps when I got here. Today I plan to make that a trip to the cemetery, about 13 short blocks away; I may be back, maybe not, depends on how I feel after I talk to my ancestors a bit more, but " just in case" I don't show up for a while and you don't hear anymore from me again, I wanted to let you all know that your love and support over the past few years has meant a lot to me and kept me going when my world was getting darker.

I love you all and know some of you care about me too, because you have sent me e-mails in the past, but my will to live, my reason for living for nearly three years, died on May 10th, 2001. I'd rather not say exactly why here; it would embarrass someone I love too much; suffice it to say that I go away empty now; I do not like that feeling very much, and I can't get past it after all this time. Thank you and so long until we meet again.

PS- I wrote this letter yesterday, was interrupted by someone coming in before I could post it, but I went to the cemetery armed with a bottle of 15 codeine tablets, another with about 75 benedryl, a baggie full of tylenol, a fluffer nutter sandwich and a 20 ounce bottle of Mountain Dew. (The first few days after my "knee twister" I took the codeine as it was prescribed, but then started taking them just at bedtime so I could sleep through without being woke up every hour by pain, as I was already planning to end all of my pain once and for all.) When I got to the pond there, I was surprised to see a large flock of mallard ducks out for an afternoon swim. I sat and watched them for a long time, while I ate the sandwich slowly, which I intended to use to help me keep from getting nauseated and tossing my cookies before the drugs could do their job on me. While I was eating, this one duck kept coming up from the brook below me, staring me in the face and quacking at me as if she wanted my sandwich, but I said, "Not today, Donna, I need to eat this myself." Suddenly I realized that I was talking to a damned duck like it was a long lost friend, and then I burst into tears. While I was busy blowing my nose and thinking about which pills to take first, a cemetery truck pulled up nearby.

One of the two guys in the truck asked if I had seen the sign at the front gate saying that bikes were not allowed in there. I told him that I hadn't seen it, but had seen the others that said, "No dogs allowed", "speed limit 5 miles per hour" and "closed from dusk till dawn". He proceeded to tell me that he could see that I wasn't tearing up graves riding over them, etc. but that I'd have to take the bike from the property, because if he made an exception for me, he'd have trouble enforcing the rules when kids came there to raise heck. Right! Why didn't the other guys say something when I came riding down the road past them on my way in? Where I was sitting, the bicycle couldn't be seen from the roadways or the nearby streets; it was tucked into the bushes, leaning on a tree, for Pete's sake. He said I could sit a bit longer if I wanted to, but said not to ride a bike there again. I broke into tears, told him I'd go find somewhere else to f'ing die, and got up and started wheeling my bike up the hill. (Yes, I used the "F" word, shame on me!)

Well, on my way out I stopped and read the signs by the caretakers cottage. My god, I couldn't believe all the "No" rules they have there now. "No plastic flowers or flowers planted in the ground, only plants in permanent urns?" Ok, I'll give them that one, the jerks would make a mess of them with the lawn mowers, I am sure. "No loitering?" (Does that apply to the occupants too?) What are you supposed to do, drive by and wave at your ancestors? "No dogs allowed?" Can dogs read signs? "Clean up after your dog; it's the law?" Excuse me, but if dogs are not allowed there, why would you have to clean up after them? "No jogging?" Does a person running over the roadway disturb the tenants? "Speed limit 5 mph?" Hmmmm, did you ever try to keep your car under 15 mph? He was driving at least 20 mph when he came down there to scold me. "Closed dusk to dawn?" Do the tenants go out dancing for the night? By that time I was standing there laughing out loud, If I'd seen that on the way in, I would have gone to the recreation park a couple of blocks further away instead.

Sorry folks, but I am NOT going to buried there, too many danged rules for me to break, besides I already promised in my will to donate my body to science, so I get to hang out in a medical lab and spook the med students. 8^) That should be lots of fun. Well, I lived to see another day come up on my clock, thanks I guess to a feathered friend who wanted to "do" lunch with me, and some public servants who did their duty and chased my butt out of the cemetery, and gave me something to giggle about for a few hours. What about today and tomorrow? I don't really know, but for now I seem to be cried out again. Why is that most people who are suffering great physical pain, waiting to die from some rotten disease, pray desperately for another tomorrow or two, and people like me suffering from emotional pain pray for the strength to end it all? Oh well, perhaps there's a reason I got harassed yesterday, that will make today a little more bearable, and the reason will be made clear. Sorry, I laid all this on the table here, but I needed to unload someplace, and I know you are all good people who listen well. Thanks for being here.

I know that many of you know that I have Marfan's Syndrome and some have asked me what it is, symptoms, etc. Just FYI in case you are interested, the episode of the t.v. show ER that is to air this thursday, October 4th is an episode dealing with a patient that has Marfan's Syndrome and the producers and writers consulted with the National Marfan Foundation to make sure that they portray this disease with the true facts about it. If anyone is interested in knowing more about marfan's you may want to watch ER this thursday.

My Mom passed away suddenly this morning about 11 in the hospital. She
was feeling better and got up on the side of bed and fell unconscious
and they couldn't bring her back. I think it was Gods way of saving her
months of pain and agony. I wasn't ready to give her up but I thank God
for his wisdom. Phil

Again I am sorry to send a generic message but they become comon place
before this all over. She came though surgery fine. They got her legs
(Fluid) down in her legs and compared to the first two surgeries she is
doing the same. But they were only able to remove 66% of the tumor. The
rest was wrapped around the bowels and intermingled with the lower
intestines. They did what I expected- Making her more comfortable. The
cancer dr said that chemo and radiation would do no good except make her
more miserable. So it is just a matter of time. No there is nothing you
can do but pray that her pain is manageable and it is quick. This is
just what I expected so it wasn't a real shock but I didn't want to hear
it. Yes, I am coping and OK. But if you have never met cancer head on-I
hope you never will. Phil

Just heard some good news. My daughter's Father-in-Law was not at work on Tuesday. He works(ed) on one of the top floors in the #1 Tower at the WTC. My nextdoor neighbor JoAnn, (the same one I requested prayers for a while back and for her mom in the nursing home), and my "bestest friend" (and our HoLaS sister) Evie went to Tampa, Florida for vacation last Sunday, to visit some friends of Jo's. They are my two best friends, but I couldn't make this trip with them. They are supposed to fly back here at 1 PM (EDT) on Monday.

I talked to Evie Friday and they were in the middle of the hurricane going on there. What a way for Josie to spend her birthday, couldn't go out to dinner even! Last year on Jo's birthday the three of us partied for a week in Canada. Evie said she wished she had not gone now, but they are making the best of it, but most of the tourist attractions in that area were closed because of the terrorist attacks and then the storm. I don't know now whether to be glad I didn't go or sorry. If you are so inclined, would you say a little prayer that they have a safe trip and get back here intact? Thanks.

I got this in my email and thought you might enjoy!

The gentleman who wrote this, Rob Suggs, is a children's author and illustrator. He works a lot with the children at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. He is able to "lighten their load" through his art and story telling therapy ... he's a wonderful guy.

The children obviously are asking questions about the dire circumstances we are in, as well as the adults. This is what he has written to further explain the situation to the children he is working with in the hospitals...adapted from a classic story "How the Grinch Stole Christmas".

The Binch

Every U down in Uville liked U.S. a lot,

But the Binch, who lived Far East of Uville, did not.

The Binch hated U.S! the whole U.S. way!

Now don't ask me why, for nobody can say,
It could be his turban was screwed on too tight.
Or the sun from the desert had beaten too bright
But I think that the most likely reason of all
May have been that his heart was two sizes too small.

But, Whatever the reason, his heart or his turban,
He stood facing Uville, the part that was urban.
"They're doing their business," he snarled from his perch.
"They're raising their families! They're going to church!
They're leading the world, and their empire is thriving,
I MUST keep the S's and U's from surviving!"

Tomorrow, he knew, all the U's and the S's,
Would put on their pants and their shirts and their dresses,
They'd go to their offices, playgrounds and schools,
And abide by their U and S values and rules,

And then they'd do something he liked least of all,
Every U down in U-ville, the tall and the small,
Would stand all united, each U and each S,
And they'd sing Uville's anthem, "God bless us! God bless!"
All around their Twin Towers of Uville, they'd stand,
and their voices would drown every sound in the land.

"I must stop that singing," Binch said with a smirk,
And he had an idea--an idea that might work!
The Binch stole some U airplanes in U morning hours,
And crashed them right into the Uville Twin Towers.
"They'll wake to disaster!" he snickered, so sour,
"And how can they sing when they can't find a tower?"

The Binch cocked his ear as they woke from their sleeping,
All set to enjoy their U-wailing and weeping,
Instead he heard something that started quite low,
And it built up quite slow, but it started to grow--
And the Binch heard the most unpredictable thing...
And he couldn't believe it--they started to sing!

He stared down at U-ville, not trusting his eyes,
What he saw was a shocking, disgusting surprise!
Every U down in U-ville, the tall and the small,
Was singing! Without any towers at all!
He HADN'T stopped U-Ville from singing! It sung!
For down deep in the hearts of the old and the young,
Those Twin Towers were standing, called Hope and called Pride,
And you can't smash the towers we hold deep inside.

So we circle the sites where our heroes did fall,
With a hand in each hand of the tall and the small,
And we mourn for our losses while knowing we'll cope,
For we still have inside that U-Pride and U-Hope.

For America means a bit more than tall towers,
It means more than wealth or political powers,
It's more than our enemies ever could guess,
So may God bless America! Bless us! God bless!

Darktides lit a large table candle which we have had burning since the first reports were received on Tuesday morning of the terrorist attack on American soil... It will continue to burn for days as our prayers continue, for all of those who were hurt, and for the families and friends who lost those beloved to them...

I can make no sense of this, and have cried and prayed and wished with all my heart that they will yet find survivors... somehow...

So many emotions, so much sadness, so much pride in the people that have rushed to assist and help out, anger at those that could do this and those who would harbour them, and a deep longing to believe again in all the goodness and beauty of the world we live in...

Tonight I created a graphic and added it to the entry of my website... Its merely a token of love and hope for all those who are in need... It is a gift to anyone who would like to use it to send comfort or add it to their webpages...

I know it has been awhile, I do make here once in awhile to read but haven't been online much lately at all. Please know that you are always held close in heart and that my prayers are always with you...all of you.
Things in my life are hectic as usual, but at the same time very lonely. I know many of you probably tire of hearing about me missinng my daughter, Missy.... and that saga of my life continues the same... I have spoken with a few psychics, feeling I have done everything else I can to find her, why not... a few say she is dead and one insisits that she is in a coma or has amnesia and can't even remember she had a loving family. Either way, they don't feel I will ever see her again... but I am still holding onto hope.not sure whether I believe in anything I have heard,,, This Friday, the 14th I will be meeting with a well known psychic on a local television station here to talk about Missy,please say I prayer that I may find some answers or closure with whatever happens there.I has said for the past few years I feel this disattatchmnet to her, bnot sure if it was phsically or just emotionally or mentally... but in my heart I know something is terribly wrong. I can't tell you how much I have missed her and how I am feeling at my wits end. The doctor has put me on some meds to help, sometimes they do... sometimes they don't... and I don't think anytthing will till I know what has happened.It has been almost 10 yrs. and today is her 27th birthday...last time I held her in my arms, she was 17, I miss her so much.

our dog was killed today while we were moving back to the apartment. He was hit by the truck when another dog chased him underneath the wheels. My kids are devastated, George is very upset, and it is just now hitting me I suppose. Kids aren't taking it well at all, they loved that dog, as did we all. He thought he was human, and was treated like he was most of the time. I'm gonna miss him, and I don't think my kids will ever be ready for another dog again. Pray for comfort for my children. Their hearts are broken.

My opinion on the above

I think I'd prefer to be a dog, because besides being able to do all the above things, people pay attention when they bark, snarl and show their teeth. 8^) You always know where you stand with a dog too; there's no pretense, just watch the tail. If it's wagging, they are welcoming you. If it's just up but not moving, they are neutral on the subject. If the tail drops between the legs and the ears go back as far as possible, stay clear; they are not at alll happy with what's going on, and you could see teeth next coming your way.

Besides, most cats are very sneaky, surly, tempermental and unpredictable, kind of like the weather at times. They can turn on you in a flash without any warning, and claw you up really good. As they say, "Been there, done that, didn't like it much".

I am really not one that likes to let anyone know that I am sick or having problems but I am to the point that I really need prayers. In the past month I have been to the cardiologist, had an MRI and an MRA, been to the dentist, which first requires going into the hospital for IV antibiotics, and was sent to a periodontist who diagnosed me with periodontal disease. She informed me that it was a real danger because of my heart problems. I have been twice into the hospital for IV antibiotics and then to see the periodontist, I have been to my primary doctor twice...the first time I went I could not move my head. I had severe spasms and tension in my neck and shoulders...He gave me a shot and prescription for the pain, a prescription for muscle relaxers and one for muscle spasms and then he sent me to a Physical Therapist...I have been having physical therapy on my neck and shoulders almost daily for the past three weeks...around two hours of therapy a day, not counting what I am supposed to do at home. I probably have a few more weeks to go acording to the therapist. The second time I went to the primary doctor it was for a recheck on my neck. He sent me to radiology for X-Rays on my neck to see if part of the pain may be arthritist. Still waiting for the results. I also had to have blood drawn to see if my blood was too thin and it was so they have adjusted my medicine yet again. It got too high a couple of months ago and I ended up in the ER with nose bleeds two times in one day. They ended up packing it and the pain was unbearable. I'm not sure what is going on with that. I'm on less blood thinners than ever and still my tests are coming back high...As far as the shoulder and neck, I am thinking it is just where I keep my tension and worries. I told the therapist Friday that I am working against him. He is trying to work out the stress and I seem to keep piling it up....Since I started Physical Therapy, my father got deathly ill throwing up and dizzy and his equalibrium was off. Mom took him to the nearest ER and they admitted him and did a cat scan. They said he had fluid behind his ears and kept him for a few days....just until he could sit up without throwing up. He went home and didn't get better so mom took him to a different doctor. He did an mri and said he didn't have inner ear trouble, he had had a stroke at the base of his brain....I have been trying to find him help since then and finally got him in to see a doctor that was able to at least tell him what he can and can't do. He has an appt. with a neurologist in a couple of weeks. His equalibrium is still off and he was told that may never get better...In the same week, my father in law had surgery on his shoulder then went in for tests and they found something on his prostate and said it was likely cancer. They did a blood test and said if the number came back a 4 or above it was not good news. It came back at 10.3...He had a biopsy and we found out friday that it is not cancer, thank God but now we still don't know what it is. I guess the major stress started building when my little Katie had bacterial spinal meningitis and I was scared to death she would have permanent damage if she even lived. Thank God she is over that and back to normal with apparently no permanent damage. I know this is a book and I'm sorry but I guess I needed a new place to put a little of the stress because my neck and shoulders are still very sore. Well that has been the story of my life for the last month or so. When I am not at the docor's office or hospital, I have exercises that I am supposed to do at home twice daily for my neck and shoulders. I am supposed to be putting heat on for twenty minutes before the exercises and Ice on it for 20 minutes after the exercises. I also have a routine I am supposed to go through three times a day with my teeth and gums to help keep the periodontal disease in check so that bacteria will not travel to my artificial heart valve. If that happens it will mean open heart surgery again. Needless to say, I'm tired and weary, but mostly I need prayers because I can't handle all this on my own any longer. If you have gotten this far, you are to be commended. Thank you for letting me vent. I needed to try to get some of this off my neck and shoulders and onto somewhere else. LOL

I never thought I'd say it, but I am actually ready to get back to work. Things are way too quiet here, especially since the kids have gone back to school. Wish they were a little quieter when they get home from school, but it is going to be a relief to get back to work. Unless things have changed from last week when I talked to the guy I'll be working with, I know that I'll be setting up some new machines at my home office, and then possibly going to another of the branch offices to set up machines there as well. He told me that they have about 30 machines at the various offices that have been in a box for the last 3 months, that's not productive at all. They told me at the main office last week that Steve (the MIS administrator and my immediate supervisor) hasn't been this excited over a new hire in 15 years! That makes me feel pretty good. I hope that I live up to their expectations. I went to school for this for 2 years, so if I'm not ready by now, I don't guess I ever will be! Will let you guys know how things are going from time to time.

I do drop in to read a lot more often than I post. It's so good to see some missing names popping up and I hope to see them more often. You guys don't stay gone so long! You've been missed!!! I'd better finish this up now. It's time for the boys to get home from school, and I'm sure Kaleb will be bubbling all over to tell about his day. He usually is.

I was there bright and early this morning, arriving before they even officially opened for the day. When I went in the conference room the personnel manager proceeded to let me know that they had 2 other applicants who had previous experience taking credit/loan applications. I was thinking "ok, and I had to come in here for you to tell me what you could have told me in a phone call?" Anyway, he then went on to say that he had been very impressed with my resume' and college transcript as well as the way I presented myself in the interview. He said that he didn't think I'd be happy with the loan application position and that if given that position he thought I would leave if given another opportunity to more utilize my computer skills. Then he told me that their MIS administrator needed an assistant, and that even though there hadn't been a position doing that, they wanted me to do that for them. I am supposed to start training Wednesday the 15th and it's great benefits, they have yearly incentive bonuses, and it's not even a cut in pay from my last job, which surprised me! It's actually making a little bit better than I was at the other place, and better benefits. I may have to do some short distance traveling between the different area branches, and I'll have use of a company vehicle when I must go between offices. This is better than I'd hoped for, and I'm so excited! I think I'm going to love this job, it's actually doing what I went to school for. Thanks for the support ladies. I love you all so much!

Well. the mystery has been solved of why the tumor grew in spite of the chemo. It's good news and bad. The overian cancer they were treating from the first tumor seems to be gone. It responded very well to chemo.
The bad news is the 2nd tumor was a different knd of cancer that is usual to uterian cancer and chemo does touch it but there is some sucess with radiation. So she has to see a doctor about radiation therapy. The surgeon was real impressed with her recovery from the surgery and did
away with the 6 week check. The other bad thing she has been losing at the boat thus losing my inheritance. Lol!!!! But if she feels like going that is worth a lot. Thanks for everyone thoughts and prayers. Maybe we all did a good job after all. Thanks. Phil

She has a head full of hair and I don't know where that came from but she is just beautiful. We named her Taylor Grace and she has been such a good baby, I have just not had a whole lot of time to get online to let everyone know. An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave the house-building business and live a more leisurely life
with his wife enjoying his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by.

The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time
it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end a
dedicated career.

When the carpenter finished his work the employer came to inspect the house. He handed the front-door key to the carpenter. "This is your house," he said,
"my gift to you."

The carpenter was shocked! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently.

So it is with us. We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our best into the building. Then with a shock we realize we have to live in the
house we have built. If we could do it over, we'd do it much differently. But we cannot go back.

First I want to thank all of you that prayed for our katiebug. She is doing much better than the doctors expected. She is a fighter. She has been fever free and without the headaches for 48 hours now and if she continues to do as well as she is now she may get to come home on thursday. She is beginning to get her energy back, but still not eating good. I am so relieved that she is over the worst and seems there is no permanent damage. She will have to be on the IV anti biotics at least until thursday, but maybe she will be able to come home then. Thanks again for your thoughts, emails and prayers. love and *HUGS*

Hi all. I need your prayers. I took my 7 year old to the ER wednesday night with a fever of 105.2 and severe headache. She had a spinal tap done and she is now in the hospital in isolation and on IV anti biotics for at least 10 days. She is being treated for bacterial spinal meningitis. I am not even allowed to see her because of my heart problems and the chance of her being contagious. The doctor is also treating, me, my hubby and son just in case because we were with her and taking care of her. I'm really scared for her and would appreciate any and all prayers and good thoughts on her behalf. Thanks. love and *HUGS*

I just wanted to let you all know that they were able to get my dibetes under control with diet. I do not have to take
shots. Yipppe Thank you all so much for your prayers, good thoughts, cards and e-mail. The Doctor says I will probably be
having the baby with in a couple of weeks. I am getting so excited. Well, I told several of you about my Grandma and figured I would also give an
update on her. She went in June 15 to the hospital and needed a quadruple by pass, but the Doctors were kind of scared
beings that she only has one lung and it doesn't even have it's full capacity. Her diaphram is also paralized. They went ahead and did surgery on her on June 18
and it went well. The only problem was that when they took the venilater out of her she could not breathe and they had to put it
right back in. They finally got her off the venilter but she still was having problems breathing, so they hooked her up to some
other sort of breathing machine that pushes oxygen into her lungs. It is a mask type thing she has to wear. Well, yesterday they
found a spot on her lung of fluid and went in with a needle to get it out and her lung collapsed. She has been fighting real hard,
but is having a very difficult time breathing and my mom is scared that she may not make it. She is still in I.C.U. and on the
breathing machine and all. If you all could please keep her in your prayers and thoughts I would feel so much better. I know a
lot of you will and it really helps when people pull together for something like this. I will be going to see her on Monday. I have
a feeling she is not going to make it to her grand-daughters wedding on June 30 and will also miss the birth of this baby I am
having, but hopefully she will pull out of this. Thanks again to you all, Love Terri

I have a dear friend who needs our prayers. Her mother had a stroke on new year's day 2000 and has been in a nursing home since right after that. She nearly died a few times before from seizures but now seems to have given up. She started refusing her medications and insulin a couple of weeks ago, then refused to eat and seldom will even drink anything now. She is in pain too, so they have been giving her her meds by intravenous, but it appears that it's just a matter of time now before she goes away. I have known her mom for about 52 years or more and Josie for 50.

My friend has no other family left except her brother who is not very supportive and some cousins she seldom sees. I have known her since she was born, used to wheel her around in her stroller while her mom cleaned house when she was little. Her mom was like an extra mom to me for many years too. JoAnn was like a younger sister to me when we were younger, and we have recently revived a friendship that had suffered from neglect. I am trying to be there for her now, but it is so hard to watch her suffering like this.

Please join me in praying that her mom's physical suffering is ended soon and that Josie's emotional suffering is eased as she awaits the inevitable. Pray also that I can be there for her when the time comes, that I can be strong for her when I will be feeling the loss nearly as much as she is and that she and I can continue to be there for each other when the need arises.

It is so hard to be supportive when I am in the thralls of depression myself, but I am trying to keep those love lights glowing for her. Please pray that I don't fail her now, she needs us badly. Thank you sisters and brothers for always being there when my candle needs relighting too.

I just wanted to let you all know that I have been having some problems with gestaional dibetes and the Dr. is putting me in the hospital on Monday morning. He said it could take a few days for them to get my blood sugars just right and to start me on insulin and teach me how to give myself shots and all. I am very scared and nervous because I have never had dibetes in my life and now I have this kind that you get when you are pregnant. I am hoping all is well with the baby and that they will not have to take it c-section. The baby is due July 2th but they may have to induce early, but I will let you all know when they do.

I just wanted to let you guys know so you can send good thoughts my way and prayer. Hopefully it will not take long to get my sugars lowered. Hope to see you all real soon.

hey...finally found you guys after the move...I've missed you all heaps...things have been very busy for me here, what with university and everything else in my life...a quick run down is almost impossible but i'll try...

I'm in my second year now in Psychology, doing fairly well and loving it...I'm working at a hospital here part time, trying to support myself, and living in a residential college on campus at uni. I'm learning lots of new hobbies and skills, including dancing (ballet mostly), photography, singing, kung fu, and soccer. I still have my horse, but I lease him to a friend of mine, as he is too far from where I live, and petrol prices here are phenomenal. I'm also working as a voluntary sexual harrassment officer for the university, sort of a first contact for students who've been harrassed or abused. My role is basically as an interim counsellor/advisor until they decide what their next step will be (qualified counsellor, legal action, etc). Its a pretty interesting job.

I'm taking medication for my depression and still see a counsellor on and off, but its gradually getting under control.

I think about you guys a lot...I hope things are going well for everyone, and you are all in my prayers...drop me a line if you remember me - tell me what you've been up to since we last caught up!

Karen sent this note to Peg's classmates, and it summarizes well her current challenges. Daily I'm on the phone with Peg and I can report that she has NOT lost her sense of humor, and even the most serious subject are giggle material.

TOMORROW is her (umpteenth) surgery, which she is undertandably dreading. I'll try to keep in better contact with all of you.

Ok, here's Karen note:

"I just wanted to let you all know that Peggy is going to have some more surgery this coming Wednesday. She has been trying to postpone it until after her daughter's wedding in August, but that was not to be. She has an artery in her arm that is closing off. This will be, we're hoping, the last of many surgeries she has to have in the past few years. She said there is a possibility that she may lose her arm. I pray that that is not so. [She has recently been diagnosed with diabetes also.]

She had a heart attack the day after she returned to Ohio from last summer's reunion and has not been in good health since. I am hoping that all of you will send her a card either via e-mail ... her e-mail address is SWANPEG@AOL.COM.

I'll let you all know how she's doing ... thank you for helping in this effort to bombard her with get well wishes and your prayers won't hurt either!! Karen"

I'm back at work, ~Di, Rex, and Dennis left this morning about 7:15 to head home (pray they don't get caught in bad weather), and I am officially the owner of an AAS degree in Information Systems. I wish that you all could have been here, but I could feel a little bit of each of you in my heart. Remember this was not only my graduation, but all of ours. I love you all so much and I couldn't have done it without you.

Oh yeah... I was the only 4.0 they had this year, and I got a nice plaque and 2 gold stickers on my degree. *g*
