It has been a while since we have mentioned our friend Jo, or Jody as some of us called her. Quite some time ago "Janet from PEI" asked me to post a graphic in "The Field" for her to mark the anniversary of her passing.

Janet's thoughtfullness inspired me to revisit her web pages and reminisce. She had become so close to many of us and she had passed on at such a young age.

It occurred to me that soon all of her pages would be deleted for lack of use by Geocities, and what a shame that would be. So I started copying and downloading her pages, grapics etc. for future use. A lot of them were corrupted for some reason but I managed to collect most of her writings etc.

And now, finally, her pages have been deleted. I've spent the last little while rebuilding them, and uploading them to dandelionfield.net where they now have a permanent home. A lot of the links are now dead, but I've left the dead text links in to preserve the character of her pages, and her likes and hobbies. The dead grapics links were unlinked but the graphics remain also. For some reason her guestbook entries are mostly gone, but several remain. I also relinked all the old HOLAS graphics to the newer message board and the HOLAS main page.

There are still a few kinks to iron out but the pages are now pretty much as they were. There are some nice words there in tribute to Jo and her memory.

So here they are. If you've been around long enough to know Jo, drop by. If you didn't know her, now you will. Don't forget to sign her guestbook...

Wow, during a night of insomnia I decided to look you freaks up! (Chill, freaks is meant to be a term of affection)
A whole year of postings are on one page??? No wonder, take a look. Nothing but sadness, regrets and poor pitifull me's. If you insist on mourning a handful of those you have never met...why not pray for the young soldier who is a hostage in Iraq? Why not pray for the families of those who have made the real, tangible, honorable and ultimate sacrifice for you and your families freedom?

You mock and dishonor all who truly greive with your pathatic tributes to an online hoaxter. No wonder you have driven off your own so called "family". Instead of worrying about "friends of friends relative's" and seeking attention for every ailment that all humans go through, why not look to your own biological family and help them with their needs? Why not try to give comfort in real life to those who are suffering? I already know the answer, it would take a lot more effort to visit a VA hospital or convalecent hospital than to type out a meaningless "prayer request" on a message board. I'm going to pray for you all. I will pray that you find some happiness and meaning in a life that is precious but all too short and uncertain. I will pray that you lot and many more like you will find a true channel for your efforts and that your actions bring you peace and happiness as well as a positive effect on the world. My prayers will be sincere and will be offered in the appropriate "forum". Cheers to you.

As of March 31, 2004 the site that I have maintained at Capital Net since June of 1997 will be closed. I will no longer be using Capital Net as my isp, for several reasons. I have been paying for two internet services for a couple of years so that I could keep my capitalnet site online. When I got the account at hrcreditunion, it had been with the intention of moving all the things from capnet to that server at hrcu which provides twice as much storage and at a lower cost, but I never got around to it. Other problems have arisen which have made it necessary for me to remove that site entirely.

Hopefully, I will find a permanent home for some of the pages that are being removed from that site, as there are a few I do wish to keep online, especially the story about growing up with dyslexia, but at this point it appears I may also have to remove all the stuff at hrcu as well, so I am not sure exactly what will happen with them. If I can find a website service at a reasonable cost then perhaps I will move all of my pages to the same server, but in the meantime the only one I will move is the dyslexia page.

Everything else will cease to function at Capital Net on March 31st or whenever they finally delete all the files from their server. I'll let you know when and if I put any of the pages back online and where they are.

It appears that the plane's wreckage may have been located by sonar, but apparently the coast guard is not allowing divers to go down to try to retrieve the bodies so that they may be properly buried. How doubly heartbreaking this must be for the family. The link below goes to the full story.

Wow... it as been a very busy few weeks, just got computer access again, but I need a huge favor, a friend of ours back in Washington.... Mike... his dad went for a ride the 29th with a brother in law in a cessna plane and hasn't been seen since... I think this family, especially the son and daughter... Mike and Michelle.... could really use some prayers. I think we know how this will turn out, but you know.. miracles happen so I am not giving up on Harold yet... or his brother in law. I wanted to let you know how Amanda was doing... she is doing great.

This is the email I received from Amanda HERSELF!

"Hello Family and Friends

I wanted to write and let you know I am home and doing pretty good.

Thank God for the miracle of a healing. I am cancer free at this moment, but the doctors said most likely there are dormant cells that will grow slow and wont be detected for a couple years and we will take care of those as they show up. I guess I am one for the books as they say, with this rare kind of cancer.

I am so grateful for your prayers.

I truly feel that is was the prayer warriors that held the death angel at bay. I felt surrounded with angels at all times and I know that God performed this miracle because of the hundreds of people who prayed for my healing. Thank you for being one of my prayer angels.

I came home a couple days ago and am just now able to get to the computer to write. My sister has been trying to get a letter out but AOL has stopped every attempt she has made the past couple day, either AOL or the devil, and it could be either or both. I know the devil does not want me to get the word out that God answered our prayers. But that wont stop me from praising his glory and spreading the word of what he done for me.

I'm feeling pretty good, am able to get out of bed and walk a little now. My moms cure for all this is to eat and eat some more. Bless her heart. She is better now too. The worry was awful for her.

I have received so many get well wishes and it is so uplifting to receive all these cards from people I know and many that I don't. And the inquiries made to my sister about me. Such thoughtfulness is much appreciated.

My next CT to determine the progress of the surgery will be in a couple weeks. But the doctors have told me they cant believe that they did not have to perform a full wipple surgery, and that the pancreas did not have to be removed. This alone has eliminated so many side effects and future problems. Praise God! The last CT showed NO cancer. Now I will continue with CTs every 3 months to watch for cancer cells that might start to grow, then will face them at that time. The doctors said that I have added 10 to 15 years to my life and that if any cancer should appear, that the new technology in 10 to 15 years will be much advanced and will solve a cancer problem most likely in a much better way and will again add more years to my life, they have also said perhaps more can be known about this particular kind of cancer... AT this time I'm trying to not cross a bridge before I get to it and bask in the today of my life and rejoice in what the Lord hath done.

It takes about 6 months for a liver to grow back to its normal size, so for now, I plan to just lay around and let my liver grow..lol

Then watch out world 'Amanda's Back'....lol... Give me my camera and give me film....lol

I hope your day is as good as mine and that God is blessing you as he has blessed me.

I am too tired to go into detail right now, but please say a prayer for all 3 of my children.. Greg and his family, Bryan and his family, his son Jonathon & his mom and brothers... and even my daughter Missy's situation...I promise to come back hopefully tomorrow sometime and fill you all in, but for now... I could sure go for some boredom and just a quiet peaceful, productive day. I love you all... and thank you so much again for what you did for Amanda, prayers were answered and thank you God.

Sadness means you care

Sadness is an intensity of life's longing for itself. We often focus on the painful part, the longing. And yet there is also in sadness a profound affirmation of life, of what could have been, of what can still be.

Sadness is possible only because you care. The more you care, the more pronounced the sadness, and yet, the more potential for joy you also have. Though sadness may often feel like emptiness, it is not.

In every sadness, there is a kernel of joy. Something in your sadness lets you know, without the slightest doubt, that things are not as they should be. That something is the joy which you know, just as assuredly, does exist.

Sadness means you sincerely care. Build on that. Strengthen it. See past the pain of the moment and find a positive outlet for the depth of your feelings. Know that your sadness affirms the joy and beauty that life can be. Experience the purity of being fully alive and let that profound caring propel you forward.

The above is something that's been sitting in my mailbox at yahoo for over four years. I found it a while ago when I was cleaning out the box and it got me thinking about my own feelings of deep sadness. I can't show them openly, and yet I can't seem to forget the reason I feel this gawdawful pain. I wish I could find a kernel of happiness hidden somewhere in this sadness, but I can't. All that I can see now is complete emptiness, utter confusion, total "nothingness" and uselessness. Mr. Marston said that, "sadness affirms the joy and beauty that life can be", but I can't see it, haven't been able to since May of 2001, doubt I ever will again. The only sense I can make out of what he said there is that I care even more than I thought I did, because the sadness just won't go away.

I don't want to put up a fight anymore, just want to throw in the towel and give up on everything. I see no reason to go on now, to even exist, in this vacuous state, and yet I have been too much of a coward to put an end to it all. (I guess that's because up until late October I could still see a glimmer of hope, albeit tiny, that things would change, that I might find a way to be happy, at least a little, but the hope finally died, and the lights went out inside of me.)

Does that mean I stopped caring? NO, but I had to stop feeling the pain, the emptiness in my heart and the utter silence that echoes through my brain because I can no longer see or hear from someone who is precious to me, so I had to build an invisible wall around myself and "put on a happy face" in front of others.

How do I get past this loss and move on? How can I offer hope, support or help to someone else when I can see no reason to go on myself? How can I "be there" for someone else when I don't want to be here myself? Why is it so damned hard to get up the courage to just be done with it? Why can't I just do it and free myself from this pain and others from having to look at my ugly personage? Why? Why? Why? Will I ever stop hurting like this? ?????????????

Hello Friends,

First of all, I want to say THANK YOU! You guys are the greatest. This is the email I received earlier from Amanda's sister, Sandy. I have seen alot of miracles happen here and once again prayers are being answered. Sandy said...

"Guess what! Amanda is up, moving around, and there's a good possibility she might come home tomorrow. Mom said she looks a lot better today and walked around the halls a little bit with her today. The doctors will check her out tomorrow morning, then make their decision. Mom says that pouch of fluid is causing Amanda a lot of pain, but they do not want to try taking it out at this time. They are hoping that antibiotics will take care of whatever it is and it will just be absorbed into her system. If she does get to come home tomorrow, she will be soooo happy, I'm sure.

So, that's all I know up till now. If she comes home tomorrow, I'll stop after work to see how she is, and send you another email after I see her. I hope all of these emails have made SOME kind of sense to you. I have no idea if I explained things to make any logic to you, but, I explained everything to the best of my understanding. And, NOW I know WHY I would NEVER want to be a nurse!!! Being a school secretary just suits me fine!!

I want to thank each and every one of you for your continued prayers. You have ALL been so wonderful, our whole family appreciates you! Bless you all!

Hello Everyone,

I know it seems like I only come here when I need to ask for prayers, but seriously ... tonight there is a very special "angel" out there who needs all the prayers she can get tonight. Her name is Amanda and she is Dave's cousin. She had pancreatic cancer a few years back, and they thought she had beat it but as we all know it pops back in when we least expect it. She and I have corresponded quite often over the Internet the last few years, and when Dave and I went back to Ohio last October we drove down to West Virginia to see her and the rest of her family. Let me tell you, she and I knew we had a lot of things in common, but oh my gosh, when I walked into her home, decorated in the same colors as my house, and there sat her recliner with the same exact angel throw on the same recliner ... color and all, also given to her by her grandchildren ... it was a really weird but beautiful feeling. She also likes photography and making videos for people, and is just one of the sweetest most caring people I have ever met. It was like we had known each other forever, but anyway... Amanda went in for some surgery about a week ago to have some tumors removed off her liver ... and she was doing much better than expected and they even thought she would be going home within the next few days ... tonight she is really sick and has a 106 temperature. That is about all we know other than they are giving her antibiotics and her family is there with her.
So what I am asking is when you say your prayers tonight, please say and extra one for her ... thank you friends... I have told them I have seen God work some true miracles here. I will keep you updated...thank you again ... I love you all...

My daughter will be undergoing major back surgery later this morning, and I would appreciate any prayers you can send her way. It's going to be a long road back but even harder for her now because she also broke her leg last Wednesday when she slipped in the mud in a parking lot, so she'll be trying to heal two things at once. I wish she'd postpone the back surgery till the leg heels, but her doctor told her it should be no problem. Right! (Like if she had a maid and a nurse, maybe it would be a lesser problem!)

If you've ever used crutches, you know that it puts a lot of strain on the shoulders and back, and I just can't see how she is going to deal with this, especially since she lives alone now. Her sister will be helping her out by staying with her the first couple of days and nights, but let's face it, neither the leg nor the back are going to heal by then, and pain is likely to be severe, (unless the doctor prescribes something to keep her knocked out). So if you could send a few prayers her way that it is not too bad and that she can heal quickly, I would be so grateful. Thanks.

Oh, and while you're on your knees there, or however it is you do your celestial communicating, could you add a few for Kathy to find a good job, as she has been out of work for sometime now with few prospects open in her field (accounting), and that she can deal with Micki's needs without going crazy?

She had been doing quite well with her pt in the beginning and the pain had lessened for a while but it is not going too well now. She's in a lot of pain now and you can tell it from her voice, says the pain meds are not doing much good at all. She asked about everyone here and would love to hear some news about Cade and all the other field folk. She is waving in the background I am sure but not up to writing right now so, if you have a minute, please send a little healing light her way. I posted this at the field too so all her online friends can keep updated and maybe send her a little getwell note.

Di will be having serious foot surgery on Monday, Oct. 6th, please pray for positive results from this operation and also for her speedy recovery. I understand that it can take a year to a year and a half for her to get back full use of the foot. In the meantime it will most likely be quite painful, and then she will have the operation done on the other foot.

I already posted this elsewhere but decided to copy it here too, for those who drop in.

I talked to Char on aim the other night, she was in the hospital recently; seems to be congestive heart failure. She's supposed to be resting and keeping her feet up, because of excessive swelling, etc. but because of her bad hip it's hard for her to lie down for very long. Besides, "loafing around" is not something she can do very well, is always very active doing for others, etc.

Also, her son Bryan got word recently that he will be going back to Iraq and is presently training for the stryker division. He will get a few days off on the 14th and then go back out in the field again. They originally had told him it would be around May when he'd go back, but they moved it up to Feb. now. So of course Char's is worried about him again too.

This time of the year is hard for Char emotionally anyway, since she has not seen Missy since she was 16, and her 29th birthday is this week. She gets depressed because of the "not knowing" anything about Missy's whereabouts, but "special days" are even harder for her, so please pray that her stress will be relieved along with her health being restored. Thanks

Ann B. is still in the hospital. Her knee surgery seems to have turned out well. She has a lot of pain, and was not been able to get the pain medicine going. The IV would not work right.

Ann's knee seems to be healing very well. She started in the rehab unit Wednesday. She has three hours of therapy a day there. It is hard work, but she could go farther at the end of the day than she could at noon. She may be able to come home in about a week.

I have been sending e-mail to her via Larry, he prints it out and takes it to her at the hospital. He's been sending me updates of her progress. Today Ann sent a message to ask me to send her love to Arden in the dandies, but I have not been able to get onto the mb for a few days.

The page there just hangs and never finishes loading. All I get is the background and the banner ads at the top. I can't use the other mb as I don't have the bookmark on this pc either so, besides nobody goes there unless voy is down completely. I hope somebody from the field comes by and reads this and relays the info to the rest of the folks at the field because I've been too busy here to try to figure out what is wrong. It is probably a browser setting that got changed somehow and I have not had time to go over them. Hmmmm, Maybe I was barred from the field for being a boardhog? Oh well, gotta go now.

Princess Akaida received her wings on Monday, June 9 at 8:45 pm. She is no longer in pain and doesn't have to endure anymore treatments, tests or assaults on her little body. She will be missed dearly by many including those of us who followed her journal online.

She was a brave little gal to the end and endured far more than any child should have to tolerate. My heart aches for those who were close to her who now have a hole in their life that only she could fill.

The last two weeks have been spent mostly in one hospital or another and the doctor in NYC decided that surgery on the latest tumor is not going to do her any good. She has not been able to eat solid food for two weeks because the tumor is blocking her esophogus. At present she is having radiation again to try to at least shrink the growth so she can eat. Her fifth birthday is June 19th, but by the sounds of things it will be her last, if she makes it that far.

I ask that you include her in her prayers, that if she is not to have a miracle cure, that she at least have comfort and peace in her final days, weeks or however long she has. The fight for a cure website has made her child of the month for June 2003. I just came from Akaida's site a while ago, and the updates are not good. Although her treatments went well in Philadelphia, she has more problems; her blood count is very low, she had blood in her stool from more lesions in her bowels, another huge tumor was found in the last cat scan and things don't look very good for her now. Please pray for her healing and visit her site and read the updates that her mom puts there when she can.

Hello,
I just wanted to write a quick note and let all of you know my son, my "little soldier",(this is what I would call him) Bryan, is on his way to the middle east, he left early this morning, he said "Mom, this is what I joined the Army for, this is what I have been training for"... he volunteered for this ... We didn't have much notice, ... I feel so many things left unsaid and undone... but then would there have ever been enough time...I remember him at 4 years old playing with his G I Joe's and when ever anyone would ask him what he would be when he grew up, he would always say...I'm going to be a soldier and fight for my country... it never changed, that has always been his goal...and we are all so very proud of him...so what I am asking for is that all of you keep him, and all of our soldiers there in your thoughts and prayers... and that they all are safely home soon, and for those who have lost someone in this war, they too will someday will find a way to get through their pain and loss... and please keep Bryan's wife, Melissa, and 4 children, 10 yr old Jonathon, 7 yr old Chelsie, 4 yr old Samantha, and 2 year old Jacob in your prayers also. It has been a pretty emotional day here, but they know their daddy is fighting for their freedom... and as Chelsie says "and for all the other people to live with our freedom also". This afternoon I sat and watched as Jonathon played with his little plastic army men... he must have a thousand... and for years this has been his favorite toy... I wondered if someday he would be a soldier also... one thing I have discovered, is that when you have a child who is a soldier, all of the soldiers become your child... I guess it's just a mom thing... I am too tired right now but remind me to tell you guys about my dream... Bryan chuckled and said... "only you, Mom"...know that I love you all, and continue to hold you all close in my heart as I keep you in my thoughts and prayers...

My four year old daughter, Akaida, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma IV, October 2001. She has been through several rounds of chemo and two rounds of radiation, and her body is still full of tumor. She is currently paralyzed due to a tumor found on her spine Christmas Eve morning. She was rushed into emergency surgery and the tumor was successfully removed, but she is still paralyzed.

I didn't have time to get my Christma cards addressed, what with the shows and everything else (like working till almost 10 o'clock last night), so I decided I'd come say my season's greetings here.

The show went wonderfully, in my opinion the best show I've ever had the opportunity to help in a small way, I had the most fun of any show I've ever done, and was very sad to see it all end. We (george, kids, & me) have made some friends during the show that I hope to have forever. There were moments of tears and more than a few laughs, and I left with a wonderful, though exhausted feeling. I think my acting shoes will be hung up for a while, as I've decided after having done this show, I don't know if I want to work for another director, and I definitely (this sounds selfish) won't settle for minor roles any more, there's too much work put into these shows for me to not have my few minutes of individual fame. The show was great, better than I expected, at least on my injured part. I didn't get off crutches till the day that the show opened, and I did scenes the first weekend that the doctor didn't give me permission to do, but I couldn't just sit out, not after 6 weeks of pouring my heart, soul, and it turns out my left knee into the show. You all missed a treat when you couldn't make it. I have been checking the board when I had a chance, though only taking time to read, not time to post or reply. I do think of you all very often, and I miss you all lots.

I hope that your holidays are warm, bright, wonderful, and everything you've ever dreamed of. As the year draws to a close, I wanted to let you all know that you mean the owrld to me. I'm blessed for having known you all. You're a major part of my life, and I appreciate your being there for me. There were times during the year that I didn't expect to see another sunrise, much less another holiday season. Certain ones of you helped pull me through that, and for that I am truly grateful.

You're all angels in your own special way. *hugz* I love you!

Dear Nightowl,
At long last I have my computer online again. My laptop was on the fritz and likewise my old ibm desktop was unusable as I had deleted many things, programs so I can donate it to my church so I could not reach you and the gang to tell you the outcome on the baby, so please understand I could not reach you. Also, I had met my future husband online in Oct from my church website and ended up on cell phones
developing a relationship which has culminated in engagement and that has been a bright light through the storms of life this fall. I also have been sorting all my life's belongings and throwing much out as to have a new start in life and I'm very tired and am just now getting my laptop working again. I can't stand the compaq presario laptop with Windows ME. I needed more memory as it turns out.

Baby Madylan Piper Allis was at long last released from the icu unit of the hospital on Thanksgiving Day and is currently on methodone to help her ease off of the nasty narcotics that the hospital insisted she be on so that the tubes and i.v.s would not come out of her little body.
Her parents believe that all that happened was appropriate and would not even consider suing the hospital for malpractice. It is not my call, I am only the Grandmother but the kids have been left to believe that the hospital did everything appropriately. They have been thoroughly "soft-soaped" as I see it. To not have problems with my daughter and son-in-law, I can say no more to them on the matter.

They are just so grateful to have the baby at home. The nurse was supposed to come in daily (twice) for six weeks to administer the methadone but somehow the kids have been convinced and likely had to sign papers to be responsible for doing it themselves and taking any risks upon themselves. I know that the methodone if not administered properly can cause death. The baby is so lethargic and barely crys or moves and looks totally spaced out all the time. She was here for the first time (I got to hold her!!) this past friday and sat. and I made a turkey dinner and even had a tree and a little village set up for Christmas amongst all the boxes packed preparatory for moving after I'm married which will be soon (this Friday!). What's the rush? We live the law of chastity and are middle-aged and want to:) He is a wonderful man and I feel we were led miraculously to one another (everyone says we look alike and as though we were meant to be together). Our church leaders who often frown on sudden marriages are all in agreement that this will be a good marriage for so many reasons and feel the spirit witnessing to them as do we (Gary and I) that this is the right relationship and that we will be good for each other and that my son Michael and my other two children (luke and tammy) and his four grown children will benefit also (they love me so that makes it easy)..also one daughter says I look just like his first wife, their mother, but that did not interest Gary or deter him thankfully as he did not know what i looked like when he proposed to me over the phone. It was not until we met that we realized that each other looked just as we would have wanted ...!! What a blessing! We fell in love with each other for who and what we were and for our standards and our mutual love for the gospel and our devotion to our religion which is the same. Well, gang, Merry Christmas to you all and Blessings to every one who prayed this little baby girl through to healing and release from her prison like experience in baby icu. May other babies not have to go through what this little one did but how can that be prevented, I know not.

I am so busy trying to raise my soon to be 15 yr. old home-schooled learning disabled son and starting a new marriage, I cannot forsee the time or energy to start a personal vandetta for other babies as I lack the support of my daughter who I feel is totally brainwashed, bless her heart, she couldn't stand to believe otherwise at this point, she's been through the mill.

Forgive me for the long letter and the long wait...life has been very fast paced and very very busy as you can see these last several weeks.
I am not ungrateful for your prayers....I know you are all out there and to me you are like EArth's Angels...God Bless you every one!!!
and I know He will and is doing so...You are all in my prayers...I can never thank you enough. May the spirit of Christmas abide with you as it obviously has before Christmas even began ...throughout the coming weeks and months and years...may you always have such charity to all mankind as you have shown to our family this fall. HI ALL...JIM GAINED ANOTHER POUND! HE IS GETTING JUST 2 DOSES OF RADIATION EVERY DAY NOW SO HE IS HAVING LESS AND LESS TROUBLE WITH THE MUCOUS. I GOT HIM TO EAT A CUP OF FOOD PER MEAL NOW AND A 1/2 BANANA WITH HIS BREAKFAST AND HE'S BACK ON HIS BIG BOWL OF JELLO MID AM. HE STILL CAN'T TASTE MUCH SO I NOW HAVE HIM WORKING ON RELEARNING THE DIFFERENT TEXTURES AND SMELLS OF FOOD AND IT SEEMS TO BE WORKING. I ALSO MADE HIM FOCUS ON EATING THE WAY HE HAS TO FOCUS WHEN HE PLAYS SOFTBALL! IT GIVES HIM SOMETHING ELSE TO THINK ABOUT INSTEAD OF ALL THE HORRID NEGATIVE STUFF HE HAD FILLED HIS MIND WITH AND IT SEEMS TO HAVE WORKED. I HAD TRIED SOMETHING SIMILAR DURING WEEK FOUR WHEN HE STARTED TO GIVE UP HIS FIGHT AGAINST THE CANCER BUT HIS MINDSET WAS FAR TOO STRONG. WHEN HE GOT TO THE WEAKEST POINT I WAS ABLE TO 'SOCK IT TO HIM' AND HE HELD ON AND LET IT SINK INTO HIS STUBBORN BRAIN AND voila! I'M GRATEFUL THAT GOD MADE ME MORE STUBBORN THAN JIM BECAUSE HE REALLY WAS AT A VERY BAD AND DANGEROUS PLACE LAST WEEK. HE WAS `THIS CLOSE TO HAVING TO BE HOSPITALIZED FROM HIS OWN DOING AND WOULD HAVE HAD TO BE DEALT WITH VERY MUCH THE WAY AN ANOREXIC IS DEALT WITH...NOT A FUN THING! Folks,

I want to ask all of you to pray for our grandson Tommy. He had to be taken to the emergency room this morning. He couldn't get his breath and was running a temperature. He is the little fella we all call our "miracle" child. He was born with a serious congenital heart disease. He had surgery the night he was born and again when he was three days old. He didn't get to come home from the hospital until he was going on two months old.

This morning his oxygen level wouldn't stay up in the normal range. The doctors ran all of the tests to see exactly what kind of medication he needed. They determined he has bronchitis and gave him the antibiotics he needed for it. They also got his oxygen level up to where he could keep it up on his own. Just to be safe though, they did send all of the necessary equipment home with him in case it don't stay up.

We had a scary day, but we all knew God was, and still is, in charge. I just want ya'll to remember Tommy in your prayers.

Thank you for the prayers. Kris called us last night and told us Tommy was going to be okay. He needs rest and the medication. That's why I thought it a good idea to lighten her load by bringing the twins home with us.

You're right, I do not need to be doing anything strenuous....and I'm not going to. I'm not going to jeapordize hurting my back and neck for anything. I shore don't want to go through that anymore. I'm being very
careful.....going strickly by what the doctor told me to do. Even though Tan and Tate are here, I very carefully explained to them my situation. They seem to understand because every thing I ask them to do they do it.....so far.

My back is still real sore. I don't like being this way at all. That's why I'm "taking care of Dennie". Ha ha ha. Papaw has been doing all of the lifting and doing all that I ask him to do. They gave him quite a workout last night. Me and the kids went to bed early. Just got up a little while ago. They are in front of the TV watching cartoons.

PS- Dennie took a fall the other day, and hurt her back and neck and had to go to the ER. She is on medication and is supposed to be resting in bed, so the comments there were in reference to me telling her to behave herself and to let her hubby do the lifting on the twins, etc.

HIS COLORING IS EXCELLENT AND HIS BLOOD PRESSURE IS 120 OVER 60!!! HE IS EVEN EATING A BIT MORE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH AND BACK ON HIS 10 PM BOOST PLUS, SO HE KNOWS HE HAS TO KEEP THIS UP TO KEEP HIS STRENGTH WHERE IT IS AND FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE RADIATION TO WORK. THE CATSCAN WILL SHOW THE THERAPISTS EXACTLY HOW MUCH THE CANCER HAS SHRUNK AND EXACTLY WHERE THE GOOD CANCER FREE AREAS AROUND IT ARE. THEY DON'T WANT TO MISS THE REST OF THIS 'MONSTER' THAT TRIED TO GET MY JIM. WE ARE CLOSING IN ON THE END OF IT!!!! WE WILL BOTH BE ABLE TO GET SOME MUCH NEEDED EXTRA SLEEP AS HE WON'T HAVE THE IV OR THE RADIATION-- JUST THE CAT SCAN IT WILL GIVE US A GOOD 2 HOURS IN THE LATE AFTERNOON! There was a bad car wreck, Sunday night and a friend of mine (Kelly) happened to see it and run to help the
people. She was trying to help them when a truck struck her and killed her instantly. Her boyfriend Jody was
there and tried to give her mouth to mouth but nothing happened. She died on his birthday and will be buried
Thursday on her Birthday. It is so sad but her mom (Mary) is an older widow woman and will need many prayers.

HE JUST DOESN'T ALLOW HIMSELF TO DO ANY MORE THAN 'COP A MINDSET' AGAINST EVERYTHING HE NEEDS TO DO TO FEEL BETTER THAN HE DOES. HE KEEPS SAYING HE IS TRYING BUT REALITY IS, HE DOES FOR A DAY OR TWO AND THEN GETS ANGRY AND QUITS ON ME AGAIN. HIS THROAT IS RARELY MORE THAN A TINY BIT SORE NOW (EURIKA) AND I HAVE HIS MEAL PREPS DOWN PAT TO HELP HIM WITH THAT, SO HE HAD TO FIND ANOTHER ANGLE NOT TO EAT OR DRINK EXTRA (OR ENOUGH) FLUIDS! IT IS A VERY DIFFICULT BATTLE 24 HOURS A DAY. BUT, I AM STUBBORN TOO AND HAVE FORCED HIM TO BE HONEST WITH THE DOCTORS AND NURSES AND THEY ARE ON TOP OF HIM SO HE IS GOING TO GET THROUGH HIS LAST 3 WEEKS EVERYBODY'S WAY BUT HIS! HE MADE ME ANGRY ENOUGH TO WANT TO QUIT TUESDAY WHEN HE SAID TO LET THEM GIVE HIM A FEEDING TUBE AND PUT HIM IN THE HOSPITAL! IF YOU COULD SEE THE FOLKS ON CHEMO AND RADIATION---SOME SO SICK THEY ARE IN WHEELCHAIRS AND HAVE ALL SORTS OF TUBES IN THEM AND MANY WITH NO HAIR---HE IS SOOOO LUCKY! HIS CANCER HAS SHRUNK EVEN MORE SINCE I LAST TOLD YOU. HIS BLOOD PRESSURE IS ALWAYS EXCELLENT AND HE HAS NORMAL SKIN COLORING OTHER THAN THE TREATED NECK AND FACE AREA. THOSE OTHER'S HAVE YELLOWISH SKIN, USUALLY. WHY HE IS ACTING LIKE HE DOES MAKES NO SENSE. WHEN THIS IS OVER, I WONDER WHAT HE'LL BE LIKE TRYING TO GET BACK TO THE PRECANCER DAYS! ARRRRGHHH! ME? I just got an e-mail with an attachment from someone I don't know, by the name of "guedry", return e-mail address smokin@eatel.net, and as is my practice, I scanned the attachment, thank heavens. This is a copy of the message I received after scanning it:

a friend of my daughter... 16 years old, junior in high school, whole life ahead of her... prom, class ring... now she's gone. Driving too fast in the rain without a seatbelt. Hydroplaned, lost control, flipped the truck and got ejected out the back window in the process. They say she never felt a thing, that she was dead before she hit the ground. I know that those things are supposed to make people feel better, she didn't suffer, etc... but that doesn't make it any easier that someone so young and vibrant is gone! No I have never even met this girl. Never laid eyes on her that I know of. But she was in school with MY daughter, the daughter who the state says can have her license to drive by herself, even in the rain, in 4 months! I'm sorry, but that.... I just don't know. I know that it's a big thing when kids turn 16 get their license all that good stuff, but are they really ready??? I know that we have to let them grow up, let them learn. But then something like this happens. She didn't get to learn from her mistakes that driving too fast isn't good. I am starting to think that by law, a kid should have to drive with a permit and another driver for more than a year before getting their license. Five years sounds better right now. I'm so angry right now. Not at any person... I don't know at who or what... I just am. I was at that funeral thinking that could be ME in a few months. I just don't understand this. I CAN'T understand this. I can't handle it, can't cope, can't deal with it. Why do children die? What's the point? As parents we do all we can for our children. We make them wear coats and hats and shoes when they don't want to, when it isn't the "cool" thing to do, we watch them from behind the curtains to make sure they get on the bus ok, we do without things so they can have what they want... and in an instant, it's ripped away from you, your very heart and soul, your life, in an instant and there's nothing you can do about it but sit back and watch. Parents aren't supposed to bury their children, it's supposed to be the other way around. Yeah, I know there's a reason for everything, and that we aren't supposed to comprehend the infinite wisdom of God and why He does the things He does. I know that He knows best what is good for each of us, but I still can't get it through my head that something good comes from a child dying. Yeah, I hear that maybe other kids will learn to be more careful, to watch their speed on wet roads, to not drive with bad tires, to wear their seatbelt... but look at the cost! I'm selfish, I don't want to be the parent who has to pay the price for someone else's child to learn those lessons. I'm sure that Stephanie's parents don't want to be either. I know that this is probably not making much sense to anyone reading it, but I can't voice these feelings out loud, because my daughter is having a hard enough time dealing with this without her mother having a nervous breakdown over it too. I don't know what to do or say for her to help her cope with her grief. It's been not quite 10 years since her grandfather died, and to this day she hasn't dealt with it, hasn't gotten peace and closure for it. I'm at a loss to help my child, and that is enough to kill a parent, this one anyway.

I can't even put cohesive thoughts together now, so I think I'm gonna sign off, read my mail and... I don't know what else. I want to just crawl into a hole. I'm afraid to go to sleep for fear that I'll dream it's me, not Stephanie's parents. I can't help but wonder, is the only point in life pain? Is that what it's all for? *sigh*

HI EVERYONE...THE NEW ADDED ANTI-NAUSEA MEDICINE SEEMS TO BE DOING THE TRICK. IN JUST A FEW DAYS IT TOOK AWAY THE NAUSEA AND AFTER EACH TREATMENT UNTIL TODAY, KEPT IT IN LOW PROFILE. TODAY WAS NOT GOOD BUT WAY BETTER THAN THE OTHER FRIDAYS. THE WEEKEND IS RADIATION FREE SO THE NEW MEDICINE WILL HAVE AN EVEN BETTER CHANCE TO WORK. HE ALWAYS EATS BETTER ON THE WEEKEND TOO! HE FELT REALLY GOOD TODAY, RIGHT UP UNTIL THE SHOTS BEFORE THE "NUKING" AND WE EVEN GOT IN A LOT OF LAUGHS WHILE WAITING FOR THEM TO 'WORK'. I got a letter from an old friend from high school. She sent me an e-mail address and asked me to contact her there. She has a mailstation not a pc, so she is limited on what she can send and receive. Anyhoot, she sent me a note the other day saying that her husband was starting cancer treatment that day. I contacted her and got her permission to post a prayer request here for her. I'll post an excerp of her e-mail here as it's easier than retyping it.

AFTER 10 YEARS OF BEING CANCER FREE, MY JIM HAS IT AGAIN. I WANT JIM TO GET ALL THE PRAYERS HE CAN TO BEAT THIS ONE. IT IS SQUAMOUS CELL AND IS IN THE SOFT TISSUE OF THE BACK OF THE THROAT. THEY FOUND IT VERY EARLY AND IF THE RADIATION GETS ALL OF IT HE HAS AN 85% SURVIVAL CHANCE IF IT DOESN'T RETURN THE FIRST YEAR. AND IT WILL GET BETTER THE 3RD, 4TH AND 5TH. AFTER THAT HE'LL BE DECLARED FREE.

I would like to also request that you pray for her family as a whole, as they have other issues that need a healing touch as well. God knows what these are, and it's not that important that we know the details only that Linda's family is in pain and needs help. I thank you all for your love and support of the past and know that you will also be here for my old friend Lin.

Update on Debbie - for those who've asked -- Betty Lee, 02:24:16 07/23/02 Tue (Dial2a-66.i2eyenet.com/64.80.2.66)
Debbie has been home since last Tues., and is doing ok, but not terrific. She says she feels a lot better now that it's over, and she does look better. Most of the swelling has gone down, and the bruising is minimal now. I talked to her on the phone Fri. and Sat. She still has a bit of a shiner but much improved just from Sat. to Sun. I went and got her and brought her over for the afternoon on Sun. She stayed till after 7 pm, till she began to feel a bit lightheaded, but we had a good time, just the two of us.

Her speech is messed up a bit, and she's having a lot of trouble finding the words she wants to use. That gets her a bit frustrated and scared acting. I gave her a pen and paper to use, and each time a word really got her rattled, I'd tell her to write down the first letter if she could, and surprisingly in most cases she printed out the whole word and then managed to say it or almost say it.

When she was hanging up the phone on Sat. I told her I loved her no matter what and maybe I would come down and get her the next day to visit for a couple of hours if she felt up to it. She started to cry and said, "Thank you, Aunt Betty, I love you too, and I know that you do understand what a lot of other people just can't seem to sometimes. Maybe that's why I was finally able to remember your phone number today when I couldn't remember anything else and I was feeling scared." I almost bawled on that one.

When I took her home Sun. after our visit, she hugged me and said, "Aunt Betty thanks for a wonderful afternoon and evening and for lunch. It's the best day I have had in a long time, especially since I got home from the hospital."

I talked to her on the phone twice today too, and she's still struggling so hard to put sentences together. She has an appointment to see one of her doctors tomorrow. Oh, I had to laugh at something she said when she was here. She took off her bandanna and said, "Look at the damned mess they made of my hair, Aunt Betty! I wish they had just shaved the whole thing because this looks downright asinine with this bare spot up here." Actually, she has about 1/4 inch or so of hair coming back there now, but the incision is still quite visible through the stubble.

Anyhoot, that's the latest on Deb. She can still use your prayers as not only does she have the verbal problem to overcome, but they are planning to go back in sometime soon to try to correct the other two anuerisms also. Thank you to all who have written to ask about her and have been sending those prayers her way.

I just heard from my niece Debbie about an hour ago; her surgery is on for 7:30 am tomorrow. Her mother or her son is supposed to call me when it's over, and let me know how it goes. As soon as I know anything, I will let you know. She'll be in intensive care afterward for at least 24 hours, and only her next of kin are allowed to see her then, so I will have to rely on relayed info till she can have visitors. It may be the weekend before I can get down to Albany to visit her myself.

I will appreciate all prayers on her behalf, and thanks to all of you who e-mail me to see how things are going with her. It is a scarey time for her right now, and she fell again the other day in her bathroom and bruised herself up pretty good, but hopefully this surgery will correct her problems and she'll quit having these accidents.

I just received an e-mail from my new friend Dennie, from Texas who sent me a message asking for prayers for the youth in their community. Here is a copy of the message.

"Subject: Please pray

Please pray for the teenagers of Metro Church of Garland, TX. About 100 of their youth were traveling to LA to youth camp when the first bus hit an embankment near Terrell, TX.

Several have died and even more have been air lifted to area hospitals. Pray for the church staff as they try to minister, the families of these victims and the teens who have witnessed this. Also pray for anyone else related to this situation the Lord lays on your heart.

Remember prayer is powerful!!! "

Hey everyone! It's been way too long since I've been here. I've been so caught up with everything lately. I was going through my Favorites on my computer and I decided to pop in. I read so many posts. I've been dealing with a lot lately. Almost more than I can handle. I want to thank everyone for their prayers. I didn't even think to come here and post when it happened. My mind was all in a tizzy. I'm very thankful my Mommy Di did though. I don't know how I could ever make it without her. It meant so much to me to have her and Dadddy Rex at Ashley's funeral. Giving the Eulogy was the hardest thing I've ever had to do but it's probably the most special thing I've ever done. I appreciate all the prayers and I sincerely thank you on behalf of myself and her family. Please continue to pray for them.

I talked to my niece Debbie last night, hadn't been able to contact her until then, as she was out of town undergoing tests, and I had been dialing the wrong phone number, as I reversed two numbers when I wrote it down. (Isn't dyslexia great?) I had not been able to contact other relatives locally either, so until now had no idea what was going on. Anyhoot, her surgery was delayed and more tests were run. They found two more anuerisms in her brain when they did an angiogram, so she has three new ones and the old one that caused the stroke in 1981.

She will be going to Albany Med on July 7th and the surgery will be on the 9th, the earliest it could be scheduled. One of the anuerisms is in a bad place and it's quite risky to operate in that spot. They are leaving that decision up to her as to whether she wants to take that risk or not.

She would appreciate any and all prayers for guidance on this matter, as she is a total wreck right now waiting for the surgery, and she came home the other day to find an eviction notice waiting for her. She had been staying in the Albany area, in and out of the hospital for over month, so hadn't paid her rent for this month. Hopefully, she will find a solution to that situation soon, but she may have to move before she goes to the hospital and put her things in storage. So as you can guess, she is depressed on top of everything else. Your prayers will be most welcome. Thanks

Anybody who used to visit the old mb might remember that she and Tryker\Jane used to post from work all the time, and the three of us had a contest one day to see who could be the last one to post a reply on a message that was about to expire. (BTW-I won by about 10 seconds.)

I have been trying to get onto the Field board to post this.
Pam is in the hospital. She has deteriorating rapidly over the last few months. her weight is down to 104 a loss of over 20 pounds.
She will be discharged tomorrow with Hospice care. We are working with the Red Cross to get her son home, He is serving our country in the US Army in Germany. Hopefully, he will get home this week.
She is very confused, thought processes are very poor. Her memory is gone. But she does know who we are.
This weekend has been rough. Brings back many bad memories of Dad.
Just wanted to let you know. I can't post this...

Keep her in your prayers and especially pray that Shannon can get home this week.

Well, I'm an "unofficial" grandmother. I don't know how many of you remember me talking about Nikki in the past, but she's a very dear friend, and practically one of my children as she lived with us for about 2 years during her early teens. Tonight at 8:15 pm she delivered a beautiful 7 pound 11 ounce baby boy. Both mother and baby were recovering wonderfully when I left at 10:30. I plan to take some pictures tomorrow afternoon when we go see them. If you want to see a pic after that, let me know and I'll mail it to you or something. He's beautiful, and I'm not the least bit biased about it either! Nikki was a real trooper, never even once yelling out or anything. I was very proud of her. She's a good kid (even if she is 20 now, will be 21 next weekend). I told my kids that this is my first grandchild and I plan for it to be the last for a very long long long long long long long long long long (get the point) time... *grin*

Well, if the adrenaline will ever die down, I need to get in bed. Didn't get home last night till 2 am and got up this morning and went straight to the hospital to await Jacob's birth. Thought you guys might like to know... Love you!

Bill is 35 today also. He was supposed to start a new job yesterday, but it was rescheduled for today, so he gets to work 7 am to 7 pm on his birthday. I guess his cake will have to wait till he gets home. (Yuppers, I fell in the back door with his too, after I already dumped it off the backseat of the car. hoo hoo hoo! At least I didn't turn his upside down in the box though. I refuse to buy anymore cakes and come in the back door, it's getting to be a bad habit.) My oldest grand daughter Crystal's birthday is tomorrow (25th)too, she'll be 20 years old. Gosh these kids are getting old, I guess that means I am an antique now.

I am sorry to hear about the two ladies that are friends of yours and will pray for them also.

You take care of yourself, and please keep us posted (seems like we have ways of finding you anyway). I'm glad you are having lunch with Katie once a week. I bet that makes her day. Have faith -- I think the age that she can decide for herself is 13 (or used to be in Texas) whom she wants to live with. You didn't need that in addition to your illness.

First I want to let you all know that I read the posts and my prayers are with all requesting prayers and are always with my holas family members. I want to rejoice, although late, with the ones that had birthdays recently and to thank BL for posting since she could not send me mail, Anne for emailing my husband to check on me, mom/miki for calling to check on me and to talk to me every night and dad/steve for keeping tabs on me as well. Now for an explaination of why I have not been around. My mailbox was not messed up, just full because I have not been online in a few weeks.
I think I told y'all that I lost my katie the middle of march. I have been having lunch with her at school one day a week since she was taken from me by her mother. Her mom still refuses to even talk to me or to let me see Katie. I have missed the last two weeks of lunch with her because I sprained my left ankle and in trying to keep the weight off of it, I twisted and pulled ligaments in my right knee. I am on blood thinners and for some reason my blood was WAY too thin and I am bruised all the way up and down my right arm from bumping my elbow and the foot I sprained is bruised all the way from the toes to above the ankle, even on the bottom of my foot so I have either been in bed, at a doctor's office or in physical therapy and have not been able to be up and online. The doctor has now put me on a pain patch 24/7 for chronic pain in my lower back caused by an aneurysm in the sac that holds the spinal fluid (that is caused from the Marfan's Syndrome) and changed some other medications and I'm having trouble adjusting to all the medication changes so I stay tired feeling and sleepy. Besides that, my computer modem died right before I sprained my ankle and my puter has been in the shop. It has been out about a week but I have not been up to being online. I had planned to go to mom/miki's for my birthday but due to the fall I had to cancel and I guess it is a good thing I did because I made the mistake of asking myself what more could happen and now my car is in the shop. A part in the engine has gone bad and it will take a while to fix and a lot of money to get it out of the shop. And as if all that were not enough, Kacey (some of you have met her in holas chat and she used to post here some) called me and told me that her closest friend, Ashley, woke up screaming in pain sunday around 2 or 3AM ,was rushed to the hospital and had emergency open heart surgery. Her aorta was ripped from top to bottom and the doctors repaired it all but the damage was too much for her heart and they could not get her heart to continue to beat after the surgery. She died and will be buried Wednesday. She was just 22 years old. Kacey has been asked to deliver a eulogy.
Ashley was diagnosed 2 months ago with Marfan's Syndrome (the same disease that I have and that took the life of my best friend, Maryann, almost 3 years ago). Her two year old daughter was diagnosed and then they tested Ashley and she had it too. She was 8 months pregnant at the time so they immediately put her in the hospital, made sure the babies lungs were developed and took the baby early so that Ashley would have the stress off of her aorta. She lived a couple of months after the baby was born but then Sunday morning her aorta ripped (just like Maryann's did.) The damage done by the stress of the pregnancies and just stress of life in general had damage her aorta to the point that it could no longer remain intact. Ashley left behind 3 children under the age of three. Every time I lose a friend because of a ruptured aorta it brings back to mind that I, as well as everyone else with Marfan's, am a walking time bomb. It brings the fear and reality of the dangers of Marfan's back to mind.
I'm sorry this was so long...believe it or not, this is the reader's digest version of my last couple of months.
I want to ask that you pray for Ashley's mom, her husband, Larry and her three children, 2 year old Alyssa, 1 year old Zane and almost 2 month old, Daleigh. Also please pray for Kacey as she goes through dealing with the death of her friend and relives the pain of losing another very close friend one year ago. He committed suicide and she is still dealing with that pain also. And if you would, please remember me in your prayers. I live with the realization that my "time bomb" can go off at any moment. I love ya'll and thank you for always being there for me. *HUGS*
BTW if any of you like to give to charities and would like to know a good one to give to, you can donate to the National Marfan Foundation at 382 Main Street, Port Washington, NY 11050-3121.
And if you would like to know more about Marfan's you can call the foundation at 1-800-8Marfan and they will gladly send you literature about it. Thanks again for always being here when I need to vent or need a hug.
