Subject: Second half inbound

On the yuku board someone mentioned that wvu got the initial jump ball and also unbounded at the start of the second half. I thought about that at the game but guessed the refs were right. I just watched the first half again. There were no jump balls in the first half. The dukes should have unbounded. Coaches should be aware of this. Also if the dukes could not warm up then neither should wvu. Again coaches should say something.

WVU also had a possesion in the 2nd half where the shot clock never moved from 35. They scored within 35 seconds, so it didn't directly cost the Dukes, but it was another error that showed the kind of night the officiating crew was having. (NT) -- Brian, Tuesday, December 14, 07:49:28am
Since they must not pay too much atention to the arrow maybe we should have it point our way at the start of the 2nd half every home game. How many times did Ronnie Dixon shoot foul shots for (Rod Scott?) before we got busted. I'm not for cheating but I'd consider getting the arrow a home court advantage. - In many arenas the arrow is shown on the main scoreboard. Certainly the new Consol Energy Arena should have had this. - I do not believe your interpretation is correct. I am no expert, and could be wrong, but my understanding is that the possession arrow goes to the team who does not win the initial jump ball. It only changes if there is a held ball (or other event that would trigger a jump ball under the old rules). It does not matter who took the last shot. At least that is how I understand the rule. NCAA Rule 6, Section 1, Article 2 - "The second half shall start with the team that controlled the alternating possession arrow at the end of the first half given disposal of the ball at the division line opposite the scorers� table." NCAA Rule 6, Section 2, Article 4 - "Before the start of the second half, the direction of the possession arrow shall be changed (to account for the teams switching ends of the court), indicating that the team that the arrow favored at the end of the first half shall maintain that status to start the second half."   - Ted, it has nothing to do with possession. It has everything to do with the possession arrow. If the arrow was pointing in favor of the Dukes at the end of the 1st half, it should have been the Dukes ball at the beginning of the 2nd half.
