Okay! Happy Dancing here!!! Even though it took me a while to get through the Verizon order pages, Gerry and I now have new LG 8600's coming to us. Hope to have them by Tuesday. I was eligible for my "New Every Two" and Gerry just plain needs a new phone. We were pretty set on the Motorolas since that's what we've had in the past but we stopped by the store last weekend, which is conveniently only about 1 1/2 miles from us, and tried them out. Our salesman was an LG fan but I tried out the display model and boy, that phone has excellent sound quality!! Oooo, goody, goody!! A new toy to play with. And mine was FREE! BTW, I'm sure you already know this, but if not, you do know you can update and transfer your address book through the "backup assistant" on your account at Verizon or on your phone don't you? Oh, yes, this I *do* know!! I did this only about 2 months ago. I'm sure if I were younger, I would have done it a long time ago but you know how it is with us "old folks." Takes us a while to get used to the technology. Since we dropped our land line, I've got everyone and everybody saved into my phone...........Gerry, well, not so much. I set mine to update every evening, at some point during the night. I don't do the ring tones thing and haven't even saved any pictures. Cute story about this. My alarm goes off every morning at 5 and I usually get up by 5:15. First thing is heading for the bathroom. Every darn morning, I was hearing something *beep* when I was in the john. And it was driving me crazy because I couldn't figure out what it was. Then, BINGO!!! It was like a light coming on. I just happened to have my phone with me one morning after that disaster with Punkie calling in the middle of the night when Travis was in the hospital. Anyway, the beep I kept hearing was my phone beeping once, followed by Gerry's phone beeping once, when the update was taking place. I have one "special ringtone" it's the Linus and Lucy Theme....I just had to have it...and I've got my phone set to ring with this tone for everyone....I've got several pictures on my phone too...it doesn't cost you anything extra to take the pictures and save them on your phone..it only costs when you send t hem to someone....
what I love is I have different pictures come up for different contacts..that way when someone calls me I can look at the picture and know who it is, because if I don't have my glasses on I can't read the number in the little screen very well..but as soon as I see the picture I know who it is!! They aren't necessarily pictures of the people either...for Bev (the leader I work with at WW) I have a picture of my Snoopy Phone beause when I think of Bev I think of her being on the phone....RoseAnne is a receptionist I work with, well she is a very layed back person, so I've got this really neat picture of Maggie all stretched out like she doesn't have a care in the world come up for her....even you Sandy, I've got a picture of three kitties on my wall.....one is a calico one is orange and the other is a tuxedo...when I look at it it reminds me of you..so that is the picture that comes up on my phone when I call you or vica-versa!!!! Yeh, the store can do that. But unfortunately, they now charge $10 to move your contacts list from one phone to the other. Since I've signed up for, and maintained my account, on line, I back up my address book there and it's free. They waive the $1.99 fee as long as I have it on the computer. I can also check my phone calls this way. My bill doesn't include each and every phone call but when they notify me that my bill is available for viewing on line, all of the phone calls are there. ok...as long as we are talking cell phones..I've got a question....
just this week I dropped long distance from my land line, because we use our cells for all of our long distance calls. Well today I needed to make a call and it got me to thinking, does Verizon have directory assistance? It ended up I did have the phone number here at home, but if I didn't I would have needed directory assistance....does anyone know if it's available through Verizon? Congrats on the new phone! I LOVE new toys! We are eligible for an upgrade, but not sure if I want to..... I'm very happy with our phones, and it takes Danny FOREVER to learn new technology. LOL, Vicki. I understand totally about the new technology. I'm still very happy with my phone and according to the salesman in the store, it's packed with options. But Gerry's phone is acting up. He's been eligible for an upgrade for some time and, of course, I just CAN'T let him get a new phone if I can't. And mine was free. We paid $79 for his ($50 online discount) and then paid for a new pouch for him to use. In our house, the technology thing is split. We both do TV's, depending on which TV it is........good grief, we have 4 in this house for 2 people!! But he takes care of the DVD/VCR recorders, which I've never figured out. He maintains the computer. I do the phones. My job has lessened since we dropped the land line and passed our cordless phones to Ken, since our 2 handsetted Panasonic was better quality than his Uniden. But I just LOVE playing with new cell phones. I can't help it. And since they're now our only phones, I guess we gotta keep up. I offered him a Blackberry or a Palm Pilot and he said no. But watching how the technology has changed, just in the past few years, is almost scary. Only 15 years ago, cell phones were huge and bulky and only a few people even had them. Now you can text, take pictures and video, access your email and even watch TV. I have a feeling that it won't be too long before cell technology does away with the need for any kind of land line and possibly even a desktop computer!! We'll be able to do all of that stuff, including watching TV, on a cell phone that's no bigger than a credit card. Maybe it's time for me to learn how to text, huh?
