Just a quick check-in as Gerry's on his way home from work. It's been snowing all morning but now, we're getting sleet so his office released everybody at noon. He says the roads are terrible and very greasy so he's doing the grocery shopping on his way home. We did have Cricket in for another depo shot yesterday afternoon and this time, the vet gave the injection in a different area so we can watch and be alert for any lumps. The vet thinks that Cricket might be developing a reaction to the *delivery agent* in the shot since he shouldn't have this reaction to the depo. He told us that the delivery agent is what slows down the absorption of the steriod and makes it last. So at least we're good now for another 3-4 weeks. That should get us through Christmas and now all we have to worry about is Chicory. He'll go back for another blood glucose testing just before Christmas. -- Piggy's Pad

And since we're all already praying for Kate's dad..........and I'm not, believe me, making light of her dad's health issues...........but could you also say a quick prayer for Chicory that the specialized food is working and we won't have to put him on insulin??? Kenny says he's acting like a different cat..............playing a bit, talking at them (which he hadn't done for a while) and just all round seeming happier. And LOL............as for the word play...........usually when the roads are slick, I call the kids and tell them to take it easy because "the roads are slicker than snot" but I was really, truly trying to be a bit more lady-like here. We are getting the snow too and some areas might get some drizzle on top of it. It's Mona that's funny! Greasy is a common word around here when the roads are slick! LOL Prayers for both boys. Hope Cricket doesn't get a lump at all but at least you will know for sure either way. What food is Chicory on? Many cats can be diet controlled. Cats are meant to eat protein, period but we fill them up with grain. I just read an article that said feline diabetes was on the rise. Wish I was closer, I could show them how to test his blood and they would know for sure how he was doing each day. Denise, they put him on the Purina prescription diet. Said that in the past, they used to advise the SD MD but since that food was on the recall list with the melamine, now they use the Purina. We paid for the bag of food since it's so pricey and Ken just didn't have the money but I need to find out if perhaps the Innova Evo is low carb enough to feed Chicory. Sandy, if you get to the diabetic cat board they have foods listed and they will help you out there. Many people use Fancy Feast, several varieties are listed as low carb. If you check the Purina ingred. you are gonna see a lot of crap ingredients and grain which he doesn't need. Used to be that canned was the only way to go for less grain or no grain but now with the grainfree kibbles I'm sure people use them. I've found a grainfree that is cheaper than Evo, it's called Taste of the Wild. Do you have Theisen's stores near you? I'm sure it's other places too. We've only ordered the one bag and it came to us just fine. Prior to that, we were buying the Evo at a place here in town called Doggie Day Care. But a car pulling into their lot took out the entire front of their building (an old barn) and they've been out of the Evo for some time now with no new order put in. Nope, no Theisen's around here. And Taste of the Wild certainly doesn't ring any bells, which I'm sure it would if I'd ever seen it. I've been reading on the diabetic board today, trying to get a feel, and had sneaked a peek at the food list. The problem is: my medication makes me very sleepy. And if I sit on the computer for more than maybe 10 minutes, I literally doze off. So then I get mad, get up and walk away. But I did notice that they had a lot of Purina foods listed.
