This week...the nature of our very humanity itself gets put on display! And it doesn't look good!
"Circle" is one of those science fiction flicks that just stays with you, long after it's over. And despite a very simple premise...it keeps things very tense and you're locked in from beginning to end. So applause to this movie for surprising me with that.
Basically, the opening credits roll...and then you have people who are all standing in a circle. They don't reember how they got there, have NO idea what's going on, and are completely helpless to get out of the situation! In fact, if you move...you're dead. Period. End of story.
Now, here is what makes this movie so compelling...every ninety seconds (We start with forty people in the room, so it's pretty much in real time!) a machine rises up out of the middle of the floor and MURDERS somebody in the circle! One shot, and you're gone. But, while the others think this is a random act at first, they realize that they all are actually 'voting' on who is the next to die. They do so with a wave of their hand. And since human nature dictates a will to survive at any cost...these decisions become increasingly difficult as the crowd thins out.
Depending on how you vote...you might be directly responsible for the deaths of the people around you. So...you've got 90 seconds to figure out what your next move is going to be. Will it be the old man? The army veteran? The little 12 year old girl? The husband or his wife? The pregnant mother? The handicapped guy with a level head? Who do you choose, when you know that only one of you is getting out of there alive?
Throughout the movie, deep conversations are had, some extremely difficult decisions are tackled, sacrifices are made, alliances are formed...it's a really tense movie if you're into that sort of thing. And by the time it's all over, you're going to find yourself exhausted from everything that happened! Hehehe! I LOVED it!
Check it out! I hope you enjoy it! It's one of those movies that makes you think..."What would I do in this situation?" You know?
Have fun! :)
