When I was a kid, it wasn't uncommon to have a pen pal. I had a couple, through school, I was in touch with, one in New Zealand, and another in Hawaii. They didn't last long, in the grand scheme of things, but that was the typical way of being able to have a friendship abroad, back then.

I wrote to Henry Thomas when I was about 9. He was my first celebrity crush and I was obsessed with E.T the movie.

I never got a response, but I never expected one. My nine year old self probably didn't even consider the fact that he was some 22 year old in San Antonio, busy with his acting career. He was still that cute 10 year old in my favourite film. I was living in a pretty bad situation back then, and I'd fantasize about running away to Hollywood to find him.

A few years ago, when I was still on Twitter, the coolest thing happened to me. I made a post that went viral, and Squintz from The Sandlot retweeted my tweet and followed my account. I couldn't believe it at the time because The Sandlot was another favourite movie, growing up. Though I was always more partial to Smalls :D

I deleted my account a couple of years ago though. But it's still pretty cool to think that Squintz retweeted one of my posts.

I don't really follow a lot of celebs that closely these days. I just end up disappointed when they say something dumb and another franchise I grew up loving is spoiled.

I would still love to have a conversation with Henry Thomas though. He'll always have a special spot in my heart.

To answer your question, I've reached out, but never had a written or spoken interaction with a celebrity. Though I was on TV once, when I was 14, and met a few UK based celebrities that no one outside the UK will have heard of.
