Subject: Death of Marvin Hamlisch

Composer and songwriter Marvin Hamlisch has died. One of only eleven people to have been awarded Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, AND a Tony.

He leaves behind such beautiful music. "The Entertainer", "The Way We Were", "A Chorus Line", "Nobody Does it Better" from the James Bond movie "The Spy Who Loved Me", and so many others. I think my favorite Marvin Hamlisch song is "The Last Time I Felt Like This" from the movie and play "Same Time, Next Year."

[> I was so sad when I heard that this morning. I'm so glad I got the opportunity to see him in concert with our symphony orchestra a few years back. He was so talented. He will be missed. Inside -- JJ Ronda, 20:41:25 08/07/12 Tue [1]

He is one of TWO people who have won those four awards PLUS a Pulitzer (the other being Richard Rodgers, as in Rodgers and Hammerstein). He has also won Golden Globes. He was an extremely gifted man worthy of all those awards bestowed upon him.

[> it's amazing to think our world has come to a place when I see a man pass away at 68 I think what a shame he was still young. When it's a man like Marvin Hamlish I can't help but think what a loss - how many more wonderful songs could he have. I don't know who wrote the lyrics for the way we were but the lines: Can it be that it was all so simple then or has time rewritten every line? is so reflective of real life. -- chris k, 12:20:52 08/08/12 Wed [1]

[> I used to belt out 'What I Did For Love' in the shower -- MH didn't wirte the lyrics but he created the music that gave it it's 'punch'. Really talented and such a legend -- yes, 68 y.o. is way too young, but he accomplished so much. May he truly rest in peace and harmony! -- mj, 14:26:37 08/08/12 Wed [1]

[> I just saw him in person a few months ago. He looked healthy. He was scheduled to appear next year as well. Does anyone know how he died? -- shocked judi at the loss of an amazing talent, 18:52:41 08/08/12 Wed [1]
