Shafty is right about officers and infractions that can't be "swept" under the rug-but common sense use of our many nit-picky laws should play a part in real life. Using the law well must be a fine art to avoid this sort of ridiculous waste.
I witnessed another of his profession guilty of the same sort of thing but much worse in my opinion. This was also reported and I think it was a bigger issue. Problem handled internally, no harm done.
Pursuing and enforcing the letter of the law "only in some cases but ignoring others" makes the system look slanted. It will be a waste if they throw out a clearly qualified police and K9 officer.
