Thanks Hugh, will follow this up, my Grand Father also died in an accident on his ship in 1938. I hope to research his loss also at some stage. It is no doubt difficult to find details of these men in War Time, never lone when at peace, but we attempt to remember all.

I guess that although many prerished between wars etc and are not commemorated, more than likely they played a part in WWI and certainly had it not been for the fate encountered would have "Done the duty expected in WWII"

Like many I also never knew my Grand Father, taken away before I was born, any loss of a seaman is one two many and this island seems to have easily forgetten those that kept her supplied during times of conflict and calm.

And all they asked was for those that come after them, to remember them. LEST WE FORGET.

Thoughts also for families and loved ones.

Thanks again Keith.

There are no roses on sailor’s graves,

Nor wreaths upon the storm tossed waves,

No last post from the Royals band,

So far away from their native land,

No heartbroken words carved on stone,

Just shipmates bodies there alone,

The only tributes are the seagull’s sweeps,

And the teardrop when a loved one weeps

Amen.
