In reply to: Keith@Tregenna 's message, "Red Ensign" on 18/11/07 9:29pm

Hi Keith. A friend of mine was the skipper on an OYC ship. They where sailing past IOW at Cowes Week, he had all the flags onboard hoisted to add a bit of colour, One flag was the White Ensign,he was contacted by radio and asked was he RN or RNVR or Ex RN, he replied MN,and was ordered to remove the White Ensign. Much to the amusement to the crew who where boys from a borstal. he maintains the best crew he sailed with. My friend was completely TT never had a drink in his life even when on the MN. The boys from the borstal where looking their freedom to get to the pub. He called them together for crewing details and always finished with we all go to the pub together and the drinks are on me,they agreed to that and needless to say they never crossed the pub door. David
