I know TX crowned a Sweetheart winner, but she is not competing. Anyone know why? Were there other state Sweethearts crowned that are not going to nationals? WA Volunteer has sent a sweetheart the last two years, full social media page and all, but nothing this year. Held in Jackson which is 2 hours from any real airport shows how small town this pageant really is. Few real state directors on top of all of this and rules being bent for some!! Yet--A lot of the contestants were great in swimsuit, and a lot were excellent in talent. But those who were weak in swimsuit were SO weak and those who were poor in talent were SO poor that I don't see how they could have conceivably qualified for a national competition. Perhaps someone could explain this to me. Another issue with the show as a national event is the use of the DeMarcus children! Doing so makes the pageant seem provincial and nepotistic. Personally sad to see so many Sweethearts come back and not win. Most of them have given up on Volunteer when they try again and place worse than they did the year before. I also don't blame any of them for not returning if other states are going to do the same thing during crowning. I haven't seen any states crown their Sweetheart directly at the state pageant except Utah.
