Oh, Im well aware of how Anita looks now. I always say she got the face she deserved! I had it out with her a few times, and she was wary of me. I believe she did choose Brian. She overwhelmed him with her entire persona, which did seem almost hypnotic, but I know the truth of what she ultimately did to him, and for that, Ill never forgive her.
Keith was better able to handle her. He ignored her a lot of the time, which Brian was unable to do. He was too susceptible to her personality. But after she left him for Keith, he bounced back almost as though he realised she had been bad for him. Keith was a good guy, I liked him, and Mick, a great deal. Not sure Id feel the same about Keith now, in his bitterness and revisionist history! But I think I know the why of that too. Just not sure its appropriate to tell it. Oh hell, why not! In my opinion, he was jealous because Anita had a habit of bringing Brian up a lot! And theres something else I will NOT tell.
Brian was a very interesting guy, very sweet and funny, but also could be incredibly depressed. A lot of that has to do with his sensitive nature, but I think his health problems played a role in that as well. I just cant synch up the stories Ive read on these boards with the man I knew! He wasnt a bastard, but he could become one, much like most of us when pushed to the wall. We used to do totally mundane stuff like drive out to a pub in Twickenham where he could relax, and drop acid. He would wear a t-shirt and jeans so he wouldnt be recognised so easily. To tell the truth, it was sort of strange to realise he was this famous rock star since he just acted like any other friend hanging out. He sent me to Marrakech in November 1967 because he said I would love it, so I went and stayed till April 68. When Keith, Anita and Mick showed up in December, I had one of my run ins with Anita, but Keith sharply told her to shut up and she did.
I dont know, what do you want to know? I wont answer every question if I think they are inappropriate, but Id love to help give Brian back the image he so rightly deserves!
