I must admit I'm was very surprised at the public transport costs in the UK and one thing I did notice when I was last there that the services did not seem to tie in with each other and I often found that there was quite a wait to pick up another bus or train. Though I must say the public transport in Scotland seemed to be much better co-ordinated than that of England.

Here in Lorne the bus service off season is only about two or three busses a day. The trip takes about hour and a half on the bus about an hour by car. However when the bus does arrive at the Geelong railway station there is only about a 10-15 minute wait for the train enough time to do the things you may have to do before getting on the train.

Usually off season we drive the car to Geelong and park (free parking at railway stations here) then catch the train to the City, they run every hour off peak and half hour at peak times. The cost of a senior day return ticket is about $Aus3.50 and that ticket also includes all day public transport in Melbourne (trains and trams). I think a full price day return is about $7.00 or so but that also includes all day city public transport ticket. Travel for seniors on public transport at the weekends is free now which is great. Considering our population here in Victoria is only five and a half million it seems that we don’t do so badly after all.
