I think it's a shame so many Niner fans are so naive.

Skip Bayless is a columnist with a taste for fame and attention.

He got it when he worked in Dallas by attacking the Cowboys and by announcing to the world (and to Texas) that Troy Aikman was gay.

It didn't matter to Skip that Troy wasn't gay. It was just something to say that would get his column noticed...get him on ESPN.

Well, they got tired of Skippy's little act in Dallas...and he ended up at the San Jose Mercury News.

So what does a smart self promoter like Bayless do when he arrives in a new area? He went right to work bad mouthing someone. Claiming he had inside info. Claiming that he knew what was going on behind closed doors. Claiming that he knew what Walsh, and Donahue, and York were really thinking. What a load.

And why?

To sell newspapers! To get his name mentioned.

And for those of you who only read articles about the Niners...take a look at some of Skippy's other articles. His first move during the baseball season was to attack Dusty Baker. Then he went on to attack St. Jean at the Warriors (okay, no effort there) and he wrote more than a few zingers about the Sharks coaching staff.

That's what he does. It's all he does.

Had he come here in 1986 he would have been screaming for Walsh's head on a pike.
