My point is that we shouldn't even have to be having the discussion about hiring any type of offensive coach because we have an offensive minded head coach in Mooch if he would just find it in himself to get back to his roots.Mooch should do what any GREAT coach and what Walsh himself would do,adjust his offensive play calling slightly to take advantage of the talents his key players have. The WCO always evolves into a slightly different version depending on which Walsh diciple is running it and what talent he has on his team. That doesn't mean you abandon it by running to set up the pass instead of passing to set up the run it just means you use the brain God gave you and utilize your talent(hopefully within the basics of the WCO )but that doesn't mean every play HAS to be from the 1981 49er playbook.Innovation means you have the ability to think outside the box.If you run a few plays from the wishbone does that mean you have abandoned the WCO?No!Walsh was an innovater,he would always pull a rabbit out of his hat especially at playoff time.Does that mean he was abandoning the WCO? No! When Steve Young ran naked bootlegs against the Cowboys to completely fake Charles Haley out of his socks in 94 did that mean Shannahan and Seifert and Young were abandoning the WCO and when Joe or Steve rolled out and passed on the run did that mean the 49ers had become a Canadian League style offense? No! What I and most "Mooch haters"as you call us, want is what we would get from Walsh if he were coaching THESE 2003 Niners in his prime.I don't care what label you put on it.There is nothing holy about the WCO.What I want is a coach that, like Walsh, will innovate and be one step ahead. The kind of coach that aparently Mooch was 11 years ago when he was at Cal. That's the kind of coach Walsh was and that led to him creating the WCO and if he were coaching the Niners of today then whatever he came up with would be cutting edge just like the WCO was .It was so innovative that for the most part the WCO is still on the cutting edge but just because I really enjoy prime rib doesn't mean I never eat anything else and just because we want mooch to run the Walsh offense doesn't mean we don't want him to add his genius to the mix.Like I have been saying for the last 6 months,it's time for him to quit hiding his light and if he has a brightness that he is not letting out then now is the time to show it,not after he goes to another team .If he has been afraid to innovate because the ghost of Walsh was always there and Mooch was afraid to commit the blasphemy of changing any little element of the offense that the great one had put into place then I say to Mooch,it's time to be your true self. If that means he goes back to that guy from 11 years ago then we may just have found the coach of the future that will knock our socks off but if the coach that we have seen IS the real Mooch (run 1st to set up the pass, etc.)(the diciple of John Robinson instead of Walsh and Holmgren) then maybe it's time for him to go or for us to bring in someone that Walsh will pick as a new OC that will not be afraid to innovate, the way Walsh himself would do.I'm still rooting for that Mooch of old to show himself and establish himself as the new "Bill Walsh" that many other coaches of the future try to copy! Dennis Green doesn't excite me,3 co-head coaches,1 for D and 1 for O and one administrator(Mooch) doesn't excite me.But that Mooch of old that I have been told about here before and have read about in that Trib article, that excites me. Come on Mooch, you have 3 more games this season to let the true Mooch shine, don't let yourself or us down! Start pulling rabbits out of the hat but don't wait until you are behind by 24 points and are FORCED to do it.That might be too late next time, too late for our SB hopes and too late for you to save your future with the Niners.
