Subject: The deep ball

Hey guys,
I just got to thinking, after all of the heroics that we witnessed on Sunday, were there any deep passes or even any passes of moderate depth( other than the one thrown by Owens) attempted in the Giants game.I honestly can't remember any.

I know that we were running multiple receiver sets, but it still seemed like all the patterns that were being run were of the usual short variety.

What worries me is,that with Tampa's D, and especially Derrick Brooks, roaming the areas that we commonly attack, we are going to have some guys getting clobbered.

There needs to at least be the threat of the deep ball or we are going to be in for a long afternoon.

Chicago had quite a few receivers get open deep against Tampa, but their inexperienced Q.B failed to put the ball where it needed to be.

If we come out and play our short and shorter passing game against the Bucs, we are playing right into their hands.

We need to keep their safetys back in their 2 deep zone so that we can at least have a chance of establishing a running attack. If they are allowed to cheat up and support the run defense as well as cover the short crossing patterns,we are going to be doing a lot of punting as well as having a lot of injury timeouts.

It's time that we made a defense have to cover the entire field.Chad Pennington's arm is no better than Garcia's and he manages to get the ball fairly deep downfield and spreads the the ball around to darn near every receiver and running back on the roster.

Is it too much to expect every receiver on the field to be an option on every play. This is not a rant against Garcia, it's just that if Tampa can shut down the scrambling of Michael Vick, not to mention busting him up pretty good in the process, there is no reason to beleive that the same thing won't happen to Garcia.I beleive that his passing ability versus his scrambling ability will be the key to success in this game.If we can pass the ball, it will tremendously help our ability to run the ball.We can't spend the entire first half trying to establish the run in order to protect Garcia from Tampa's pass rush.

This is round two of the playoffs.Vanilla doesn't get it done in round two. What worked last week , likely won't work this week.We need to make a statement early in the game by not being as predictable as we were in the first half last week.

If we are going to go down, let's go down being smart, innovative, and bold. The players seem to prefer that approach and I know that most of the fans do.I am curious to see if the coaches feel the same way.

LET'S GO NINERS, HOW BOUT WE SHOCK'EM AGAIN
