Her pain was a mallet that shattered his own heart transforming the jagged pieces into knives of guilt. A heavy sigh emitted from his nostrils as he hung his head in shame. -I'm sorry Death...I hadn't really thought on it- he admitted, daring to peek at her through his unruly forelock. The war had completely cleared his mind of anything but battle and Echo's illness had proven to be another distraction. Choose one? How could he choose when he was uncertain of Echo's feelings, and, more importantly, of his own? -I...I just don't know. I wish I did because seeing you like this tears me up inside- he admitted, having decided to convey the only truths known to his confused mind. -I have strong feelings for you both but it's still unclear as to what those feelings actually are. I just know that I couldn't bear to lose either of you as my friend; please promise me that I never will- He lifted his head then, gentle gaze searching for her own. The brute hated to bring pain to others, it wasn't in his nature to do so; but it seemed inevitable in this situation. Echo's breathing reached his waiting auds, satisfying the russet steed and assuring him that she still remained on Earth.
