Subject: Just reading a Castle fanfict and I wonder if what the directors/writers did with this romance will be an example to other "Powers that Be" that it can be done and be done right. I hope DPB looks at this series and the success to come and realizes how much he screwed up. I hope other shows have the courage that Castle did and we will see more well written romances (of course we need alot of ship....too) Bones didn't do it too well, but Castle was just perfect.

I think when a show does the romance so well, and gives the viewers good stuff along the way, there is no need for fanfic. Imo, the reason JAG ff was so prolific and successful, is because there were so many gaps to fill. Forget gaps, there were giant chasms to fill. Even after it was all over, we all felt the need to complete the story. Right now, I wouldn't be remotely interested in Castle ff. The writers have given me what I need in spades. FF writers couldn't improve on the real thing. -- Cece...I doubt the JAG PTB will learn anything., 18:15:16 05/09/12 Wed [1]

I don't agree that there is no need for fanfic. I think even a show like Castle that gives us so much interaction between the leads, there's still always moments you'd like to see that they can't all cover on TV, or continuations you want to explore etc. I think when a show captures the hearts so much, people want more! It's like reading a good book that NEVER has to end. And every time you open that book your favorite characters are still around and yet you discover one more storyline you haven't seen. I love it! -- Colie, 13:21:45 05/10/12 Thu [1]

I agree with Colie. I'm sure we're going to see tons of fanfics over the summer that will continue the finale. The show can obviously only continue the story one way, but with fanfic the possibilities are endless! -- JJ (Ronda)--wish I had more time to read., 22:30:35 05/10/12 Thu [1]

He must have learned from the mistakes of the Bones people and the backlash from the Bones fans. Inside -- JJ (Ronda), 20:39:34 05/09/12 Wed [1]
I just can't help but compare Castle to Bones. This Castle season finale is how Bones SHOULD have been done. After waiting for so long for a couple to come together, we want to see it happen. We do NOT want to be told that we were fooled and that it already happened in Offscreenville and we missed it. What a cruel joke the Bones producers/writers played on us! And then to skip ahead several months into an established relationship is just like putting salt in the fresh wounds. We were ripped off in Bones!

I've stopped watching Bones and don't miss it. It still keeps recording and I pop in when there's nothing else to watch. It really is too bad as the show was so quirky, and the romance had such promise. The old, "I'm pregnant and you're the father" bit is about as exciting as taking the garbage to the top of the driveway for pickup. -- Cece...sad for the hard core Bones fans. Glad I put my money on Castle., 21:10:41 05/09/12 Wed [1]

I still watch Bones. It's still funny. I still enjoy the characters. The stories are still interesting. I just really feel ripped off that we got zero romance. We went from nothing to an established ho-hum relationship overnight. Yawn. -- JJ (Ronda)--they handled the Bones ship so well during previous seasons it was surprising they messed it up so badly., 21:39:27 05/09/12 Wed [1]

I stopped watching Bones cold turkey after the, "i'm pregnant and your the father" fiasco. I felt ripped off. I want to live vicariously through my favorite characters. I see no romance between a hot guy and a pregnant chick. Been there....wasnt pretty. LOL -- TF...hope that made sense. LOL, 23:06:17 05/09/12 Wed [1]

I was shocked that they handled the pregnancy like that, particularly as they'd been so sensitive in building up the warmth and sexual tension. I don't hate Bones. I just keep forgetting about it. Actually, I'm going to miss House and Desperate Housewives, and I'm thanking my lucky stars for having Castle, Smash, and Person of Interest to watch. I still like Grey's Anatomy too. -- Cece, 23:21:09 05/09/12 Wed [1]

To cut the writers of Bones a little slack - it didn't help that the lead got pregnant when she did and they couldn't do much while the show was on Hiatus- but a few flashback moments might have been the solution before she blurted out the pregnancy- or maybe the fans can rally and DEMAND flashback scenes to fill in the gaps- LOL - you know like JAG did with 4% solution - -- chris k, 11:11:25 05/10/12 Thu [1]

I know that there was a lot of contraversy about the Paraguay arc, but it did provide Mac with a reason for looking pregnant. I'm sure Bones could have done something, particularly as they use quirky humour in their writing. Lots of shows have had to handle pregnancy. But as you said, to destroy a romantic build up in one or two sentences, was a horrible decision. What about filming hot, romantic scenes anyway, when she was first pregnant, and then fudge the time line? -- Cece, 11:33:14 05/10/12 Thu [1]

Yeah I actually think it's neat that for once, they weren't going to try to gloss over the actress' pregnancy, but rather use it. What I don't like is a) that we never got to see their beginning (yes I feel cheated!), and b) now that they have the baby, they lost all steam! They're sweet but... boring! I still watch, and it's still a good show, but it's ... lacking. -- Colie, 12:59:51 05/10/12 Thu [1]

This is one of the reviews I didn't particularly like only because the reviewer didn't seem like he really watched the show on a regular basis. It came of a bit uppity and snarky. TVovermind had a great review. I tend to agree with most of the Bones comments. That was just handled badly and whether HH admits it or not, he lost a lot of fans. -- TF, 12:57:59 05/10/12 Thu [1]

I agree with you TF. I think the article was interesting but I'm not on board with everything he says. I do think he gets Castle...the humour, the deliberate cartooning (and sometimes, lampooning), all part of the show. But where he doesn't like it when Castle gets serious, I totally love it. I love the funny/serious balance of the show. -- Cece, 13:58:55 05/10/12 Thu [1]

And it needs that balance, it absolutely needs it. If the show had continued to do only as this reviewer had hoped, it would have been cancelled after two seasons - nobody is interested in characters that do not grow, and Castle has shown very consistent and believable character growth ever since that first episode. Leaving it at the same dynamic would merely have been cartoonish after a while, and not believable for *real* people. -- Colie, 14:13:17 05/10/12 Thu [1]

I agree. I think the top notch writing stems from the show creator and his wife, one of the writers, absolutely love BOTH characters and are deeply invested in this show. This is their joy and passion. IMO TPTB on JAG did amply of what was done at the end to prove an ugly point to long standing fans. DB was gong to do what he wanted and screw what fans "thought" they wanted. I think in the end the fans showed him. AW and staff are nothing but humble and gracious and thank the fans all the time for the success of Castle. -- TF, 15:26:46 05/10/12 Thu [1]

YES! The fans call Andrew Marlowe and his wife Terri the 'real-life Castle and Beckett' - they even played out and enacted all the scenes in "Cuffed" where Castle and Beckett were in handcuffs together, ha ha! They have absolute love for their show, their characters - and their fans!! (Marlowe tweeted to his wife after "Always" aired - 'we should break out a bottle of wine, toast our fans for making it happen, and then watch them break the internet.' ha ha!) -- Colie, 15:33:35 05/10/12 Thu [1]

I hope it will be the future example to live by, for show writing! Because I maintain: Best. First. Kiss. Scene. Ever! It gave us everything, the love, the emotions, the words, and it was sexy steamy beautiful! And at just the right time, IMHO - not too early, not too late. I believe in Marlowe's writing; I believe that they will be able to bring us future seasons with them together that will be just as fun, and sexy, and everything in between. -- Colie, 13:25:05 05/10/12 Thu [1]

They put them together when they still have a lot to work out between them and in their lives. It can only take one path on screen, fanfiction is good for showing all the other little nuances paths that can be taken. Marlowe tends to write things that can be worked out one of a hundred ways. Also it's fun to see and write reaction pieces to the previews before the episode airs. -- Theresa, 14:42:45 05/10/12 Thu [1]

Castle comes downstairs to find Beckett working in the kitchen
Castle: You made breakfast.
Beckett: Yeah. I hope you don't mind. When I'm nervous I cook.
Castle (sly, satisfied grin): I make you nervous?
Beckett: You? No. I'm just wondering where Martha is.

I've stopped reading FF all together after JAG. I don't really need it for Castle, but if I started, I'm sure I would get hooked. Bones is just boring. I DVR it and watch it when there is nothing else on. I have to go with pretty much what everyone else has said.
