Subject: You can tell that McPhee and Hilty have trained voices. A lot of the Idol belters really could use some training. They often over warble, screetch, and use melisma. They are only young, but if they want to make music their career, they should get help before they wreck their voices. I'm generalizing of course.

Of course, there have been certain singers whose terrible voices were part of their charm and appeal. e.g. Louis Armstrong, whose trumpet playing was sublime, but whose vocal abilities were non-existant. But when he sang with Ella, whose voice, imo was fab-u-lous, the collaboration really worked.
