Subject: Jack Farrell's Last Will and Testament aka the Robert Deniro Review
In reply to: Patrick Lonergan 's message, "REVIEWS: Robert De Niro 12/18/04" on 10:10:09 12/18/04 Sat

Howdy folks Jack Farrell here and its time for another SNY Review, but first some news and notes

SNY Action News!: Don’t forget to check out the latest edition of live from snlyou.jt.org its Saturday night you, expect a new edition to come out each week until the Garner show.

TV picks of the week: uh nothing, rent a movie or something

Movie Pick of the week: The Life Aquatic- Bill Murray seeking revenge on a shark, need I say more?

Book of the week: Green Eggs and Ham, Are the green eggs radioactive, get the book to find out!

Sports News: NHL- nothing, NFL- Bucs are out of the playoffs so also nothing, NASCAR- still making left turns.

And now onto the review

Cold Opener- Patrick Lonergan

“Oops? Oops!”

An interesting concept for the Cold Open but I have to say this definitely felt like a fan script, Deniro’s most recent hosting of the show was godawful, but I think his 2002 show was just subpar, I did like the depravation tank joke though, good stuff

Monologue- Patrick Lonergan

“Would you like a drink Mrs. Wajadoobakowsky”

This came off funnier than the cold opener even though I have never actually seen “The King of Comedy” myself. Since I didn’t get all the references in this sketch their isn’t much more I can say about this sketch.

Racist Catch Phrase- Me!

“Holy crap, I’m black!”

I actually came up with the idea for this sketch when I was playing the catch phrase game at Thanksgiving with the family and one of my family members made a racist joke and the sketch was born. In retrospect I should have uped the ante a bit more with the racist jokes but I was worried that I would go too far and actually offend someone. While I do think this is a lesser sketch than my other one I still think its solid, which is surprising to myself.

Caller 25- Jen

“KZMB All Zombie GRRR!”

Now I really liked this sketch, very clever setup and I could definitely see this sketch killing on air (that is if DeNiro gave a crap while he was performing it.) Overall just a solid setup and a solid sketch, good work Jen

Celebrity Holiday- Mark Jennings Reese and myself

“Now lets say the robot prayer 01110001010101…”

This sketch was originally thought up by Reese but the overall content is roughly 50/50. I added in Kermit (as did SNL, I smell lawsuit) and Cindy Simpson and Billy Joel. The rest is all Reese. This sketch is a tad predictable but beating a puppet and drunken Billy Joel is always a good thing in my eyes.

Weekend Update- Nearly everybody hooray!

“I’m Jack Farrell and you’re not!, thank heavens for that you don’t want my life”

Nice WU everyone, I liked most of the jokes and the steroid commentary was pretty cool. I came up with the Santa commentary when I was at the mall and just thought “Gee how many Santa’s are their? He must have outsourced the job.” And thus the sketch was born. The only thing I didn’t really like was the Jay-C bit but that might have just been because I am incredibly white.

Every man’s fantasy-Mark Jennings Reese II

“My two favorite things are commitment and changing myself”

While I liked the idea of the sketch (I am a red blooded american male on the internet, what do you all think!) This sketch was a little too predictable for me. Granted if I worked on SNL I would have definitely tried to get in on the air. So I will be nice and give this sketch the okay sign.

Big Table vs Little Table- Me, for the last time

“Don’t cry for me Argentina!”

This is my fav sketch that I did this week and I came up with it since in my family at Thanksgiving dinner there is a big table and then a little table for the younger folks. Their’s always a couple of grown ups who get stuck at the little table with the kids and I figured they must be pissed, so their was only one solution, Revolution! On the negative side, I said years a lot in a couple of sentences and that was some weak writing on my part. Besides that though I think this is a cool little sketch, that’s right I like to feed my Eggo.

Australia- JP Ragan

“That’s not a knife, this here, this here’s a knife”

I honestly didn’t really get this sketch very much so I am not going to review it, end of story

Worst Bus Ride ever- DRG4

“3 coins in a fountain each one searching for happiness”

This was a fun little sketch here by comedy bot DRG4, the only down side here was the ending which was a little too dark despite the laughing at the end, overall solid sketch.

Mario’s Pizza- Jason Dignard

“This is an out-a-rage!”

Wow what a great first sketch by newcomer Jason Dignard. The concept was original, and he just went right into it. I especially liked when the one guy came in and the owner thought he was a guy who came in earlier. This one is my fav sketch of the week, good work new guy!

Holiday Fun- Prateek

“I am skipping the red states this year Rudolph”

I cant say much about this sketch since I have little idea of who Nelly and Tim McGraw are. So I once again will have to decline to review.

Torch Song- Reese

“Sling us a web you’re the Spiderman”

Well this sketch was okay although I honestly couldn’t give it a fair review unless I actually heard the song sung. One thing I will say though is don’t do a part 3 to the torch song bit.

Overall in the war of SNL vs SNY this week it is a… tie, we would have won easily but SNL had the muppets and a great Smigel cartoon so I decided to declare a tie since it’s the holiday season and all.

Well that’s all for this time folks, enjoy the break and I’ll see ya on the air in 2005J

Jack
