The senior official claims the US has played an influential role in encouraging the watchdog to underplay the rate of decline from existing oil fields while overplaying the chances of finding new reserves.
The allegations raise serious questions about the accuracy of the organisation's latest World Energy Outlook on oil demand and supply to be published tomorrow – which is used by the British and many other governments to help guide their wider energy and climate change policies.
'There's suspicion the IEA has been influenced by the US' Link to this audio In particular they question the prediction in the last World Economic Outlook, believed to be repeated again this year, that oil production can be raised from its current level of 83m barrels a day to 105m barrels. External critics have frequently argued that this cannot be substantiated by firm evidence and say the world has already passed its peak in oil production.

The subpoena (PDF) from U.S. Attorney Tim Morrison in Indianapolis demanded "all IP traffic to and from www.indymedia.us" on June 25, 2008. It instructed Clair to "include IP addresses, times, and any other identifying information," including e-mail addresses, physical addresses, registered accounts, and Indymedia readers' Social Security Numbers, bank account numbers, credit card numbers, and so on.
But the Justice Department never replied. "This is the first time we've seen them try to get the IP address of everyone who visited a particular site," Bankston said. "That it was a news organization was an additional troubling fact that implicates First Amendment rights."

In retrospect, seeing that Franklin half was a life altering event. It got me interested in coins and money, got me started collecting, and provided me with an education that I otherwise would have missed completely in my public schooling. The old coins were elegant and beautiful. Through them I learned of art, economics, history and culture. At the same time, the new copper clad bicentennial coins were making their way into circulation. I wondered why the new coins were made of silver-colored copper sandwiches instead of real silver, and was told that "there wasn't enough" silver to go around. It was only much later that I learned the real reason - not that there isn't enough silver, but that the value of our money is being steadily eroded through inflation. The result is that even pennies today are no longer made of copper.
My education naturally allowed me to understand the language of Ron Paul, back when most others still thought he was a kook. It was through Dr. Paul that I began to understand the link between sound money and Liberty - another subject that was somehow missed in public school.
But something I've only recently been coming to grips with was hammered home this weekend as I read Charles Goyette's excellent new book The Dollar Meltdown. My entire life has been lived during a period of declining American living standards. The collective cultural mythology of 'the richest country in the world' has been so blinding that until recently, I had failed to acknowledge this simple fact.
The Dollar Meltdown puts America's decline it into a sweeping context that makes our collective outcome impossible to ignore: Plunging living standards, a steadily eroding currency and massive inflation in a nation that has lost its industrial base. If you think things are bad now, they're only going to get worse. To quote Goyette: (p.9)
Gold's recent advances signal that we are in a period of major transition now. The American dollar's role as the world's reserve currency is inherently unstable and the signs of a breakdown are all around. Just as the monetary authorities have been unable to reinflate the high-tech bubble or the real estate bubble, when the dollar bubble is finally burst, no other paper currency will be able

The biggest pools of money for developed-economy governments to tax are the various types of tax-advantaged retirement plans.
http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/JubaksJournal/get-ready-for-the-big-tax-squeeze.aspx?page=2
I got a firsthand demonstration of the tax squeeze about a week ago. I'm the treasurer for the cooperative that owns the building where I live in New York City. November is budget time, and I met with the management company that runs our building to walk through what it would cost us to run our building in 2010.
It was shocking.
Wages for the workers 3% here, 5% there.
Fuel to heat the building is going to cost us about 38% more in 2010 than it did in 2009.
And taxes. Our management company estimates that real-estate taxes will go up 18% in 2010. That's a huge hit and even more painful than the much larger percentage increase in the cost of fuel, because our real-estate tax bill is roughly five times the size of our heating-oil bill.
An 18% tax increase on top of a 12.5% tax increase? Welcome to the post-financial-crisis United States of Debt.

Thankfully all this pulp remains cheap so the printing won't cost anybody anything.

Deflationary Spiral---
Some people are beginning to see how a deflationary spiral works. As explained in Robert Prechter’s best-seller Conquer the Crash, debtors are forced to sell all they can, even their best assets, to raise cash and satisfy creditors. That’s one reason why gold and silver prices do not rise in a deflationary spiral. When the sub-prime mortgage market crashed, guess what: other bonds, including supposedly safe municipal and corporate bonds, also fell.
Even if most price declines are due to forced selling, that selling in turn will decrease the total value of investments, which will curtail individuals’ and companies’ economic activity, which leads to an economic contraction, which will stress the issuers of such bonds to the point that they cannot make interest payments or return principal.
Despite this description, a deflationary spiral is not linear. When the debt burden becomes too great for the economy to support and the trend reverses, reductions in lending, spending and production cause debtors to earn less money. Defaults rise because they can't pay off their debts. Default and the fear of default exacerbate the new trend in psychology, which in turn causes creditors to reduce lending further.
Just as the previous boom fed on optimism, a deflationary spiral feeds on pessimism. The resulting cascade of debt liquidation often results in deflationary depression. To raise cash to pay off loans, borrowers will desperately try to sell everything that’s not nailed down, including stocks, bonds, commodities, real estate, even art and collectibles. Prices for these assets plummet.
***************************************************
at this point, the Fed has filled alot of the hole except it will have to figure out a way to convince the masses to take on more credit. As of last report, consumer credit has contracted for 14 straight months and the year on year rate of decline is -7.5% Does the Fed and govt have the stomach for more bailouts? remember , it's a deflationary spiral which is bound to find effeciencies(productivity, firing)and cause a temporary upturn only to meet more pessimism...we may be close to another round down in the spiral.

EU nations back new bankers' pay, capital rules
EU finance ministers back tighter rules for bankers' pay, capital requirements for securities
* On 6:42 am EST, Tuesday November 10, 2009
BRUSSELS (AP) -- European Union countries on Tuesday backed new financial oversight rules for bankers' pay and for how much extra capital banks should set aside to cover high-risk investments.
The new rules, agreed by finance ministers, still need the support of the European Parliament before they could enter into force in late 2011 at the earliest. Finance ministers said they were prepared to negotiate the details of the rules with lawmakers before they are finalized.
The rules would, for the first time, give financial supervisors the right to examine and fine banks if their pay reward programs trigger high-risk behavior, when traders or executives expose a bank to long-term losses by focusing too much on their own pay packets.
They also increase capital requirements and transparency for some assets that banks hold in their trading book and for resecuritization instruments, which ministers said "entail higher risks on account of their complexity and their sensitivity to losses."
The wide network of complex financial investments -- such as collateralized debt and securities -- sparked last year's financial crisis. Banks seized up lending because they were unsure about their own and others' potential losses when the underlying assets of such investments -- such as U.S. subprime housing loans -- slid rapidly in value.
The European Commission, which drafted the rules, said they would help "put an end to the culture of excessive risk-taking for short-term success at the expense of long-term profitability and sound risk management."

Lloyds Bank cutting or moving 5,000 more jobs
Lloyds Banking Group says 5,000 jobs affected in latest cuts as it reorganizes operations
* On 7:00 am EST, Tuesday November 10, 2009
LONDON (AP) -- Britain's Lloyds Banking Group PLC said Tuesday that it plans to cut about 4,300 jobs and transfer 680 more in a series of reorganizational moves in its group operations, insurance and retail division.
AP - People enter the headquarter of Lloyds Banking Group in the City of London, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009. ...
The bank, which was bailed out by the government, had already announced a total reduction of 6,400 jobs in the first half of the year. It employed about 118,000 people at the end of June.
It said the latest round of job-cutting would affect 5,000 employees, including about 2,400 contractors, temporary staff and offshore personnel.
Lloyds said 680 of the affected positions will be redeployed to one of seven sites in its retail division.
"This Lloyds Banking Group announcement of 5,000 job losses demonstrates the depth of corporate arrogance within this taxpayer-supported bank," said Rob MacGregor, a union national officer.
He called for an agreement with the company that there would be no compulsory layoffs.
"We will continue to work closely with our colleagues affected by today's announcement to help them through these changes over the coming year," said Mark Fisher, group integration director at Lloyds.
The government, which holds a 43.4 percent stake in Lloyds Banking Group, announced last week that it would inject another 5.7 billion pounds to take up its share in Lloyds' planned record-breaking 13.5 billion pound rights issue.
Lloyds announced at the same time that it would dispose of more than 600 branches, or 4.6 percent of its total, over the next four years to appease EU competition regulators.

- india goes from price taker to price maker- holmes --
mugwump, 05:53:20 11/10/09 Tue
And with this purchase from the IMF, India has gone from being a price taker as a jewelry consumer to being a price maker as an investor. This is the sort of change in government policy that we watch for in shaping and maintaining our investment models. It is significant that India, the second largest country in the world by population and the largest gold jewelry consumer, may have created a new floor for gold at $1,000 per ounce.
The presence of a big bullish buyer tends to create a big bullish buzz for gold. We’re seeing it now – gold on Friday surpassing $1,100 an ounce – and history suggests it may last a while.
Around this time in 2005, for example, Russia announced that it was doubling its gold holdings from 5 percent to 10 percent of its reserves. At that time, gold was selling for about $490 an ounce. A year later, the price was up 30 percent.
Of course, Russian purchases weren’t the only thing that drove up gold – back then the dollar was dropping, federal deficits were colossal, markets were volatile and investors faced negative real interest rates.
\We have the same conditions now, but on an even greater scale following the credit crisis, steep recession and the massive economic stimulus programs created around the world.
Our consistent suggestions is that investors consider a maximum 10 percent allocation to gold – half of the exposure in bullion and the other half in gold equities. The factors we’ve described above tend to be positive for gold and gold investing – the vote of confidence by a serious buyer like India may make a good situation even better.

- ackerman's next target- $1134 --
mugwump, 05:40:31 11/10/09 Tue
We doubt such troubles lie in store for Comex gold, however. Even though the December contract dropped back $10 to end the day, we are still holding to an 1134,50 target that has been a long time in coming. Quite a long time, actually, since it was first signaled back in May when gold was trading around 935. Accordingly, we’re advising subscribers with long-tern positions to lighten up if and when the rally hits 1134.50, a “Hidden Pivot” resistance. We strongly expect a tradable pullback from that number just as we are seeing from 1111.90. Please note, however, that if the rally were to push past the 1134.50 target by as little as $2-$3 on the day it is first hit, we’d infer there’s enough buying power for a short- to intermediate-term finishing stroke to at least 1174.90.

The agnostic does not simply say, "l do not know." He goes another step, and he says, with great emphasis, that you do not know. He insists that you are trading on the ignorance of others, and on the fear of others. He is not satisfied with saying that you do not know, -- he demonstrates that you do not know, and he drives you from the field of fact -- he drives you from the realm of reason -- he drives you from the light, into the darkness of conjecture -- into the world of dreams and shadows, and he compels you to say, at last, that your faith has no foundation in fact.

Gold Hits $1,100 As The Anglo-Saxon Economies Show Signs Of Becoming Addicted To Stimulus
By Rob Davies
Without doubt the most important news last week for anyone interested in commodities was the announcement that India bought 200 tonnes of gold from the IMF. It might only represent US$6.7 billion out of the country’s US$277 billion of reserves, but its significance is greater than that. In combination with buying interest from other central banks, this move indicates that central banks this year will become net buyers of gold for the first time since 1998.
Not all central banks are equal of course, but it is instructive to note that some of them are moving nominal assets like dollars into hard assets like gold, while others are doing the opposite. The Bank of England is creating more nominal assets through quantitative easing and the US Federal Reserve is doing something similar with its ultra low interest rate policy.
Another rise in US unemployment to 10.2 per cent, the highest unemployment rate seen for 26 years, was all the markets needed to be confirm their view that US rates will stay low for as long as necessary, for an “extended period” in the official jargon.
The reaction to both news items was to push gold up to new high of US$1,109 an ounce, and to widen the spread between 10 year and two year US Treasuries to 264bps. Investors have decided that the authorities in the UK and US are simply going to print enough money to inflate their way out of this crisis.
This view accords with that of Bill Gross who runs PIMCO, the world’s biggest bond fund manager. He believes that lax monetary policy over the last decade or so in conjunction with the growth in the shadow banking system and aggressive (or even irresponsible) lending by the traditional banks has inflated asset prices across the board.
Some observers might think that the solution to this would be for asset prices to fall. But no, Gross argues that the only solution is for governments to continue pumping money into the developed economies in order to maintain asset prices at current levels. Like an addict, the only solution is more and more stimulus.
That means anyone looking to buy cheap houses, cheap shares or cheap metals is going to be disappointed. After all, both the UK and the US governments have got vast shareholdings in banks that need to be refinanced and eventually sold off. It’s not just a case of the authorities changing roles from poacher to gamekeeper. They are playing both roles at the same time.
In such an environment it is therefore no surprise to see gold rise and base metals follow in its footsteps. Over the past week, a 1.3 per cent fall in the dollar was mirrored by a 1.1 per cent rise in copper to US$6,526 a tonne, although the other metals were weaker. Aluminium fell 2.6 per cent to US$1,885, and nickel dropped 3.8 per cent to US$17,805. Lead fell 0.2 per cent to US$2,415 per tonne, while zinc fell 1.7 per cent to US$2,,185 a tonne.
The sheer scale of the liquidity being pumped into capital markets by the Anglo Saxon central banks will be enough to overwhelm any doubt about the bearish outlook for the short term. In the medium term, the authorities will be sincerely hoping that normal economic growth will be resumed and that this will allow the stimulus to be gradually reduced.
If that doesn’t work then the Indian central bank might be getting visitors from London and Washington asking for instructions on Plan B.

- Robert G. Ingersoll's Vow --
doran, 02:03:52 11/10/09 Tue
When I became convinced that the universe is natural-that all the ghosts and gods are myths, there entered into my brain, into my soul, into every drop of my blood, the sense, the feeling, the joy of freedom. The walls of my prison crumbled and fell, the dungeon was flooded with light, and all the bolts, and bars, and manacles became dust. I was no longer a servant, a serf, or a slave. There was for me no master in all the wide world-not even in infinite space.
I was free-free to think, to express my thoughts-free to live to my own ideal-free to use all my faculties, all my senses-free to spread imagination's wings-free to investigate, to guess and dream and hope-free to judge and determine for myself-free to reject all ignorant and cruel creeds, all the "inspired" books that savages have produced, and all the barbarous legends of the past-free from popes and priests-free from all the "called" and "set apart"-free from sanctified mistakes and holy lies-free from the fear of eternal pain-free from the winged monsters of the night-free from devils, ghosts, and gods.
For the first time I was free. There were no prohibited places in all the realms of thought-no air, no space, where fancy could not spread her painted wings-no chains for my limbs-no lashes for my back-no fires for my flesh-no master's frown or threat-no following another's steps-no need to bow, or cringe, or crawl, or utter lying words. I was free. I stood erect and fearlessly, joyously, faced all worlds.
And then my heart was filled with gratitude, with thankfulness, and went out in love to all the heroes, the thinkers who gave their lives for the liberty of hand and brain-for the freedom of labor and thought-to those who proudly mounted scaffold's stairs-to those whose flesh was scarred and torn-to those by fire consumed-to all the wise, the good, the brave of every land, whose thoughts and deeds have given freedom to the sons of men. And then I vowed to grasp the torch that they had held, and hold it high, that light might conquer darkness still.

The recent alleged discovery by Israel of a boatload of "Iranian weapons destined for Syria and Hizb'allah" is designed to distract from growing global public awareness that Israel is a terrorist state guilty of the most despicable war crimes.
The UN fact finding mission on the Israeli attack on Gaza from Dec 27th 2008 to Jan 18th 2009, aka "The Goldstone Report" was released on September 15th 2009. Initially the scope of the investigation was limited to violations of international and human rights law by Israeli forces alone. The official wording was:
to dispatch an urgent, independent international fact-finding mission, to be appointed by the President of the Council, to investigate all violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law by the occupying Power, Israel, against the Palestinian people throughout the Occupied Palestinian Territory, particularly in the occupied Gaza Strip, due to the current aggression, and calls upon Israel not to obstruct the process of investigation and to fully cooperate with the mission.
Given that it was patently obvious to the entire planet (or most of it) that Israel unilaterally bombed the hell out of the Gazan population for over three weeks killing 1000 civilians, among them 400 children, (4 Israeli civilians were killed) the above wording seemed reasonable. But Israel has never paid much attention to what the world thinks or knows, and even after the scope was expanded to include:
all violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law that might have been committed at any time in the context of the military operations that were conducted in Gaza during the period from 27 December 2008 and 18 January 2009, whether before, during or after.
Israel still balked and refused to co-operate with the investigative team, blocking their entrance to Gaza from Israel. Even the appointment of South African judge Richard Goldstone, a devout Jew and fervent defender of Israel's "right to peace and security", to head the investigation was not enough for the Zionist zealots.
Judge Richard Goldstone defending his report that condemns Israeli war crimes in Palestine
What the Israeli government seemed incapable of grasping was that the result of the investigation would be determined not a priori by its statement of mandate but a posteriori by the evidence. Israeli officials had full freedom to present their case before the investigative team. The problem of course is that when it comes to objective data and the truth about the Israel/Palestine conflict, the Israeli government's arguments consistently collapse into defenseive mode.
When all the deputations and depositions had been heard, the report was released. It's main finding was that:
the Israel Defence Force (IDF) and Palestinian armed groups committed war crimes and possibly crimes against humanity. While the report condemned violations by both sides, it more strongly criticized Israeli actions.
The details of these "war crimes" by both the IDF and Palestinian armed groups were:
Blockade of Gaza allegations
The Israeli military action was directed at the Gaza population as a whole. The Gaza blockade represents the continuance of an overall policy of disproportionate force aimed at collective punishment. The report read, "Families are still living amid the rubble of their former homes after the attacks ended, as reconstruction has been impossible due to the continuing blockade (of Gaza by Israel)".
Civilian targeting allegations
The report disputed Israel's claim that the Gaza war was conducted in response to rockets fired from the Gaza Strip, saying that the war was targeted against the "people of Gaza as a whole." The report exact words were that Israel's military assault on Gaza was designed to "humiliate and terrorize a civilian population, radically diminish its local economic capacity both to work and to provide for itself, and to force upon it an ever increasing sense of dependency and vulnerability".
Al-Maqadmah mosque incident
In the incident, the report stated that the Israelis intentionally bombed the al-Maqadmah mosque on the outskirts of Jabilyah when between two and three hundred men and women were inside during evening prayers, killing fifteen of them. Goldstone said, "Assuming that weapons were stored in the mosque, it would not be a war crime to bomb it at night... It would be a war crime to bomb it during the day when 350 people are praying".
The report focused on 36 cases that it said constituted a representative sample. In 11 of these episodes, it said the Israeli military carried out direct attacks against civilians, including some in which civilians were shot "while they were trying to leave their homes to walk to a safer place, waving white flags". According to the report, other alleged war crimes committed by the IDF included the "wanton" destruction of food production, water and sewerage facilities. The report also asserts that some attacks, which were supposedly aimed to kill small numbers of combatants amidst significant numbers of civilians, were disproportionate.
The report concluded that Israel violated the Fourth Geneva Convention by targeting civilians, which it labeled "a grave breach".
Zeytoun incident
According to the investigation by the mission members, based on interviews with family members, neighbors, Palestinian Red Crescent personnel, submissions from various NGOs and visits to the site, a hundred members of the extended al-Samouni family were gathered together in one house after the fighting in the area was over, ordered there by Israeli soldiers patrolling their Gaza neighborhood of Zeytoun as part of the ground phase of the Gaza War. When five men stepped out of the house to collect firewood, a missile hit them - fired, possibly, from an Apache helicopter. Several more missiles followed, this time aimed directly at the house. In all, 21 family members were killed, including women and children. When the surviving al-Samounis attempted to leave and make their way to Gaza City, they were told by an Israeli soldier to return to the house.
Al-Fakhura school incident
The report says that IDF's mortar shelling near the United Nations-run Al-Fakhura school in the Jabaliya refugee camp, which was sheltering some 1300 people, killed 35 and wounded up to 40 people. The investigation did not exclude the possibility that Israeli forces were responding to fire from an armed Palestinian group, as Israel claimed, but said that this and similar attacks "cannot meet the test of what a reasonable commander would have determined to be an acceptable loss of civilian life for the military advantage sought". The mission criticized IDF for the choice of weapons for the supposed counterstrike and concluded that the IDF strike at the Al-Fakhura street violated the law of proportionality.
White phosphorus allegations
The report found that Israeli forces had been systematically reckless in their use of white phosphorus. Its authors highlighted the Israeli attack on the UN Relief and Works Agency compound in Gaza City on 15 January, the attack on the Al Quds hospital, and the attack on the Al Wafa hospital, each of which involved the use of white phosphorus. They described its use as disproportionate or excessive under international law. More generally, the UN report recommended that "serious consideration should be given to banning the use of white phosphorus in built-up areas."
Human shields allegations
The report also accused Israel of using Palestinians as "human shields" and torturing detainees. These barbaric practices are not unique to the Gaza war, but this is the first time Israel has been formally cited for such behaviour. The revolting irony here is that Israel explained away the high number of civilian casualties by accusing the Palestinian armed groups of using the population as "human shields."
I'll stop there. Naturally there were many more incidents where Israeli forces deliberately targeted and murdered civilians on the way to reaching the total of at least 1000 dead, but the above gives a general idea of the way the IDF troops and air force conducted themselves.
Of course, it would not be in keeping with the (revised ) mandate and scope of the investigation if I left out the details of those "war crimes" committed by Palestinian armed groups. So here they are, or rather here it is:
The report also stated there is evidence that Palestinian armed groups committed war crimes and possibly crimes against humanity by deliberately launching rockets and firing mortars into Israel, calculated to kill civilians and damage civilian structures. The report accused Palestinian armed groups of causing psychological trauma to the civilians within the range of the rockets. It also concluded that killings and abuses of members of the Fatah political movement amount to a "serious violation of human rights."
That's it, one paragraph. Four Israeli civilians killed by wayward sugar-fueled rockets apparently amounts to joint complicity by Palestinian groups in war crimes. Sounds rather one-sided, does it not? Even so, Israel was not happy with the final report or the fact that on October 15th the UNHRC endorsed it, a move that may send it on to more powerful UN bodies, like the Security Council, for their consideration. Israeli President Shimon Peres said:
"[the report] makes a mockery of history, it does not distinguish between the aggressor and the defender. War is crime and the attacker is the criminal. The defender has no choice. The Hamas terror organization is the one who started the war and also carried out other awful crimes."
Of course, Perez and his ilk would say such things, because lying comes naturally to them. The reality is that, as even Israeli daily newspaper Haartez reported, the attack on Gaza was planned by the Israeli government six months in advance. To kick off proceedings, the Israeli government broke a five-month-long ceasefire with Hamas by assassinating six Hamas officials in Gaza six weeks prior to the attack on November 4th 2008, and then used Hamas's response to justify the attack in December.
True to form, on November 3rd, the US House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed resolution H. Res. 867 (344 for-36 against), calling the report "irredeemably biased and unworthy of further consideration or legitimacy." And yes, lies come naturally to the majority of members of Congress too, just in case you were wondering.
The Israeli and US complaints notwithstanding, a majority of European nations welcomed the report and it's findings, with even the French and British governments supporting its findings.
Of course, it would not be in keeping with the duplicitous nature of either the Israeli or American governments to take a slap from world opinion lying down. And so, right on cue, like the proverbial bolt from the blue, on November 4th, one day after the Congressional resolution condemning the UN report, Israeli forces just happened to detain, with the help of US intelligence, what they said was a cargo ship loaded with Iranian weapons destined for Syria and Hizb'allah.
Antigua-flagged Francop on it's way to the Israeli port of Ashdod
Is the fact that this weapons haul happened on the same day that the UN was considering the Goldstone report just an amazing coincidence? Or is it just pure luck? What we can say for sure is that the discovery of a boatload of "Iranian weapons" and the wonderful photo op for the Western media that it provided, was perfectly tailored to distract attention from the damning Goldstone report and refocus it on the US/Israeli message that Iran and Syria and Hizb'allah, and by implication the Palestinian people, are the real problem in the Middle East.
The Israeli ambassador to the U.N. wasted no time in complaining to the United Nations on Thursday that this was "an Iranian attempt to skirt a U.N. arms embargo and supply weapons to the Lebanese guerrilla group Hezbollah."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu got in on the act and made it abundantly clear what his point was:
"This is a war crime that the General Assembly meeting today should investigate and discuss," Netanyahu told reporters in Tel Aviv. "It is a war crime that the UN Security Council should have a special meeting over. It explicitly violates Security Council decisions."
"It is a war crime that we know the Iranian regime intended for Hizbullah to carry out after they already fired thousands of rockets at our communities. This is what the international community should focus on especially today," he added.
I believe his point was to stress that this was a "war crime" and - somewhat more subtly - hint that two can play the U.N. game. Of course, the only difference between Netanyahu's "war crime" claim and the Goldstone report is that the Goldstone report is based on objective data while Netanyahu's "boatload of Iranian weapons" evidence bears all the hallmarks of a Mossad operation. In truth, unless he is lying (very possible) Netanyahu seems a little confused about what constitutes a war crime.
Netanyahu and Obama joke about the definition of "war crime"
A shipment of weapons to Hizb'allah is not a "war crime". It is a shipment of weapons that has not even reached its destination, and in the case of the Francop, never will. For a more precise understanding of what a war crime is, the Israeli Prime Minister should look back over some of the military video of "Operation Cast Lead" earlier this year when his stormtroopers bombed schools and hosptials and refugee camps in Palestine.
Israeli government sources claimed that cargo certificates showed the Francop had sailed from Iran and was bound for Syria, from where the weapons would be transferred to Hezbollah in Lebanon. For some unknown reason however, the Israeli military refused to show the documents that would confirm this.
A UNIFIL (UN Interim Force In Lebanon) spokesman said the group considered the charge the weapons were destined for Hezbollah as yet "unproven."
An official with Cyprus-based United Feeder Services told Reuters it had acted as the time charterer and carrier for the Francop, charged with loading and discharging the vessel.
Come one come all! Francop weapons on display for the world to see in Israel
"The vessel sailed from Damietta (Egypt), and was bound for Limassol, Cyprus and then Lebanon, Turkey and back to Damietta," the official, who declined to be named, said.
"We are not allowed to open up containers to see what is inside," he said. "We do not have much information. We just know that the vessel was seized and was forced to go to Ashdod to check the cargo."
Given that the Israeli government refused to provide the damning cargo certificates that would corroborate their claim that the ship had sailed from Iran, we must assume that they are lying and that the ship and cargo began its journey in Damietta, Egypt.
IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi (himself a war criminal) said yesterday that the capture of the Francop was part of an extensive battle.
Speaking at the Kirya army base, he said, "I would like to express my appreciation to the navy men and to the Mossad men. Without them the intelligence would not have been this accurate."
The fact that the Mossad was involved simply serves to increase suspicion that we are dealing with deception and fantasy rather than reality when it comes to the origin of this particular boat load of weapons.
While Israeli officials have stated that the weapons on board were "Iranian made", the truth is somewhat different. Writing on several of the boxes is in Spanish ('disparos', 'espoleta') and describes American made anti-tank weapons (CSR 106 M40). Correct me if I am mistaken, but last time I checked the official language of Iran was Persian, and in Syria and Lebanon they generally speak Arabic. And Iran doesn't make Spanish versions of the US 1960-70s era M40. The largest rockets in the shipment were 122-millimeter Katyushas, which have a range of about 20 miles. Compared to the Israeli arsenal of US made fighter planes, tanks and war ships, not to mention hundreds of nuclear weapons, the Francop appears to have been carrying a cargo of 320 tons of aging weapons that are of little threat to anyone, let alone Israel.
Since the discovery, Hezbollah has staunchly denied any link to the weapons seized from the Francop.
Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, in a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart Walid Muallem, dismissed the Israeli allegations out of hand and stated that the ship was not carrying Iranian-made weaponry for Syria or Lebanon, but was in fact "carrying Syrian-made items for consumption in Iran."
The closest approximation to the truth that can be gleaned here is that either Iran had sold the weapons to Syria, or Syria had sold the weapons to Iran. Either way, there is nothing unlawful about the shipment if we consider the reality of the international arms trade. The white phosphorus that Israel used against Palestinian civilians in Janurary this year was manufactured and sold by the USA. Ten times the amount allegedly snared by the Mossad and the Israeli Navy aboard the Francop was delivered by the US to Israel in the midst of the Israel's war crimes in January. You can be sure that cargo included weapons fresh off the assembly line. The entire Francop arms shipment is nothing more than a propaganda stunt by Israel and the US to distract attention from the recent Goldstone report and the ongoing criminality and illegality of the state of Israel.

Mahendra's latest attempt to "get it right".....(Nov. 4th)
"Dear Members,
Gold is sitting at record high at $1,092 but we are not interested. In the final run of bull market, prices can move to any level but always after the final run bear market starts and that's what we see. It can move more than two percent or even five percent but the crash after this bull market will be very severe for gold so I once again warn investors to trade carefully. The rises and falls of gold will be similar to those we witnessed in oil in 2008.
Buy Sep 2010 puts in gold and come back to me after a few months and let me know how much money you have made. During the fall of oil hardly few people made money and rest crowd was just watching it fall. Hardy fewer had guts to sell on the top.
Stock markets are trading in uncertain zone. Jobless rate is still rising, banks are still not lending and people still don’t want to borrow. Only excess liquidity is holding this market. The richer and the wall street gang are celebrating but main street is showing a different picture. Anyway our job is to give you a direction of future coming trend. Here is what I see today after the rate decision:
Buy Dollar fearlessly as all planets are saying that only rising dollar can save the world, and only rising dollar will bring Dow to 32,000. Dollar Index is trading around 76.20 and this is a fantastic level to buy. I don't care about FED rate decision at all at this stage because whatever Fed decision comes out, will force dollar to move rapidly higher. If dollar falls from here it will end the history of USA and at this stage I don't see that happening.
Gold and other metals are in the final phase and we will see crash soon. History will remember this coming fall so please avoid it. It is fine if you are not making money in this rising trend because it can trap you in the fastest fall. Gold top will be $1,097 or $1,107 and silver won't able to break previous highs from here. Their down ward journey will start."

"I am reliably informed that Bill Murphy of GATA 'fame' has just written to his shee.. SORRY!... his subscribers today and informed them that...
"I am raising the price of a Café subscription from $199 to $299 as of midnight on Sunday, November 15."
But wait up! Isn't this is the very same Bill Murphy of the very same GATA that wrote on February 25th , 2009 about the company called ECU Silver (ECU.to) and stated clearly that:
"If this stock (ECU.to) is not at $3 US, or CDN, by the end of the year, I will cut the Café’s subscription price in half for 2010, or $100 versus the now $199 … which means I will lose hundreds of thousands of dollars if this dog does not hunt … am putting my money and my mouth where my money is. So be it … either way."
So let's just check on ECU.to and see how close it is to that magical $3 barrier:
Hmmmm...does the phrase "EPIC FAIL" mean anything to you?
Clearly, Bill has not suddenly turned into a twisted, scheming, lying and manipulative moneygrabber (nay nay, perish the thought) but has simply suffered from a bit of memory lapse. So therefore, IKN takes it upon itself to do the right thing and inform Bill Murphy of GATA about his piece of harmless forgetfulness. All you need to do is pass this post on to Mr. Murphy and I'm quite sure he'll send out another mail to GATA-types where he offers to stand good on his own word of honour and drop the price by a c-note rather than raise it."

- Key oil figures were distorted by US pressure, says whistleblower --
pu-ukani, 21:55:59 11/09/09 Mon
The world is much closer to running out of oil than official estimates admit, according to a whistleblower at the International Energy Agency who claims it has been deliberately underplaying a looming shortage for fear of triggering panic buying.
In particular they question the prediction in the last World Economic Outlook, believed to be repeated again this year, that oil production can be raised from its current level of 83m barrels a day to 105m barrels. External critics have frequently argued that this cannot be substantiated by firm evidence and say the world has already passed its peak in oil production.

European regulators object to Sun-Oracle deal; Oracle to fight "profound misunderstanding"

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- European antitrust regulators have formally objected to Sun Microsystems Inc.'s planned $7.4 billion sale to Oracle Corp., escalating a battle over a deal that has already been cleared in the U.S.
The so-called "statement of objections" that Sun received Monday from the European Commission isn't entirely surprising, since the commission already expressed concerns about possible harm to the database market from an Oracle-Sun tie-up when it launched a formal antitrust probe of the deal in September.

rom the November 2009 HRA Journal
David Coffin & Eric Coffin, HRA Advisories
India’s central bank taking 200 tonnes (6.4 million oz) of gold from the IMF in an off market trade has certainly lit a fire under the yellow metal. While a trade of that nature was anticipated, India, which is about the savviest of commercial gold players, was not atop the expected buyers’ list. Given the greenback was steady and that gold’s chart went near vertical when the overnight rumor became official, it is likely that the big long position that came into the market forced some covering on the short side. Is this more than a spike?
We think India’s move could be, in part, a signal it should have a bigger chair at economic tables, which we agree with. Since Indians are the biggest gold buyers on the planet, lifting a perceived overhang from its market has the side benefit of protecting an existing wealth pool of its citizens. And the near US $7 billion price tag is not large against India’s $260 billion foreign reserve holdings.
However, it does have a bigger impact on gold’s market (about $115 billion annually, now) and that got noticed. Also, it will further establish the notion of a currency basket that includes gold as a global trading medium, and conversely a weaker greenback. That should continue the move of capital into gold as $ hedge.
In saying that, we realize that it would be tough for gold to replace the oil market as a home for dollar hedge trades simply because of the oil markets much larger scale. But oil can not continue to gain without causing major problems for the near term economy, nor can oil rise if other energy components are not doing the same. Scale aside; gold makes sense as a place to place anti-dollar bets, and especially for players worried about longer term wealth preservation. But so too do other metals.

advice from high level over paid experts when all Obombomb need do is look at the numbers.
* 13 000 Russian casualities
*1 million dead Afghanies
Between December 25, 1979 and February 15, 1989, a total of 620,000 soldiers served with the forces in Afghanistan (though there were only 80,000-104,000 serving at one time): 525,000 in the Army, 90,000 with border troops and other KGB sub-units, 5,000 in independent formations of MVD Internal Troops, and police forces. A further 21,000 personnel were with the Soviet troop contingent over the same period doing various white collar and blue collar jobs.
The total irrecoverable personnel losses of the Soviet Armed Forces, frontier, and internal security troops came to 14,453. Soviet Army formations, units, and HQ elements lost 13,833, KGB sub-units lost 572, MVD formations lost 28, and other ministries and departments lost 20 men. During this period 417 servicemen were missing in action or taken prisoner; 119 of these were later freed, of whom 97 returned to the USSR and 22 went to other countries.
There were 469,685 sick and wounded, of whom 53,753 or 11.44 percent, were wounded, injured, or sustained concussion and 415,932 (88.56 percent) fell sick. A high proportion of casualties were those who fell ill. This was because of local climatic and sanitary conditions, which were such that acute infections spread rapidly among the troops. There were 115,308 cases of infectious hepatitis, 31,080 of typhoid fever, and 140,665 of other diseases. Of the 11,654 who were discharged from the army after being wounded, maimed, or contracting serious diseases, 92 percent, or 10,751 men, were left disabled.[71]
After the war ended, the Soviet Union published figures of dead Soviet soldiers: the total was 13,836 men, an average of 1,512 men a year. According to updated figures, the Soviet army lost 14,427, the KGB lost 576, with 28 people dead and missing.[72]

In the light of various attractive Government incentives currently being offered to consumers, car sales across China saw a 75.8% rise for the month of October. The surge in car sales is being viewed by many as another sign of the fact that the country's economy is rapidly growing.
As many as 946,400 personal cars were sold across China in October, a sharp rise compared to the figure of 538,500 recorded for the same month last year. This is, however, slightly lower than the September sales figure of 1.02 million units. The data has been confirmed by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers." fossil fuel sucking new cars hit the road in China in 2 months.

While utterly discarding all creeds, and denying the truth of all religions, there is neither in my heart nor upon my lips a sneer for the hopeful, loving and tender souls who believe that from all this discord will result a perfect harmony; that every evil will in some mysterious way become a good, and that above and over all there is a being who, in some way, will reclaim and glorify every one of the children of men; but for those who heartlessly try to prove that salvation is almost impossible; that damnation is almost certain; that the highway of the universe leads to hell; who fill life with fear and death with horror; who curse the cradle and mock the tomb, it is impossible to entertain other than feelings of pity, contempt and scorn.

*Dr. Laura Schlessinger is a radio personality who dispenses advice to
people who call in to her radio show. Recently, she said that, as an
observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to
Leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. The following
is an open letter to Dr. Laura penned by a east coast resident, which was
posted on the Internet. It's funny, as well as informative:*
Dear Dr. Laura:
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have
learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as
many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle,
for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to
be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however,
regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them:
When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing
odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the
odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7.
In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period
of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19- 24. The problem is, how do I tell? I
have tried asking, but most women take offense.
Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female,
provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine
claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify?
Why can't I own Canadians?
I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly
states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?
A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination -
Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree.
Can you settle this?
Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a
defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my
vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?
Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around
their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How
should they die?
I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me
unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops
in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two
different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse
and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of
getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we
just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people
who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)
I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can
help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and
unchanging.
Your devoted fan,
skinee

- Key oil figures were distorted by US pressure, says whistleblower --
Iainmac, 17:40:27 11/09/09 Mon
The world is much closer to running out of oil than official estimates admit, according to a whistleblower at the International Energy Agency who claims it has been deliberately underplaying a looming shortage for fear of triggering panic buying.

DRDGOLD to seek judicial management order for Blyvoor
9 November 2009
113/09-jmd
Johannesburg, South Africa. 9 November 2009. DRDGOLD Limited (JSE: DRD; Nasdaq: DROOY) has announced that – in a bid to save its 74%-owned Blyvoor mine from liquidation – it intends applying to the High Court of South Africa for a judicial management order over the struggling operation.
DRDGOLD CEO Niël Pretorius said today that the application, in terms of the provisions of Section 427 of the South African Companies Act, had been prompted by Blyvoor’s inability to continue to sustain losses which had now reached R27 million a month.
“Restructuring at Blyvoor flowing from the recent consultation process in terms of Section 189A of the Labour Relations Act is not delivering the expected turnaround as rapidly as we had hoped, and the mine is also finding it very hard to shake off the effects of the recent four-week strike; we now need a rescue plan that holds real promise of saving Blyvoor from insolvency,” Pretorius said.
“Judicial management is the only appropriate course of action for us to take in the face of the combined negative impact of circumstances beyond the control of the board of directors and management.”
These circumstances, which had seen Blyvoor plummet into sustained losses from ‘a period of handsome profits’ which lasted until April this year, included:
* the 16% drop in the average Rand gold price received between 1 April 2009 and 30 September 2009 due to the strengthening of the Rand against the US Dollar;
* extensive damage caused during May 2009 to higher-grade underground production areas at No 5 Shaft by seismic activity, restoration of which is expected to take until March 2010 to complete;
* power utility Eskom’s higher winter tariffs, compounded by a 32% price increase effective from 1 July 2009, and the likelihood of further increases in coming months; and
* the wage strike by the National Union of Mineworkers, which resulted in the loss of 8 000 ounces of production worth R60 million.
“In terms of a judicial management order, the court appoints a judicial manager who has a wide range of powers at his/her disposal to take such actions he/she deems necessary to save the business,” Pretorius said.
These could, for example, include giving certain creditors temporary preference over others and agreeing compromises with creditors without the risk of committing an act of insolvency and thereby exposing the mine to liquidation.
DRDGOLD envisaged Blyvoor remaining under judicial management until after access to the seismicity-damaged, higher-grade areas at No 5 Shaft had been regained, Pretorius said.

APOLLO, 15:54:28 11/09/09 Mon
I would say GG/IAG/HL/AUY are the strongest. I assume you still have your HL+C - would hold that until mid-Feb & then dump as that is seasonal peak for Silver. ITs OK to hold LT too, but if you swing trade, then from here to mid-FEB is HL time. I also have the YMAGF - AUY 2/172010 warrants - YOU MUST SELL BY 2/12 or they go up in smoke. But the stock (AUY) has consistently over the past 30 days, led in volume (maggot alert) & those warrants are about to go into the money - so leverage is pretty significant given they've been trading around s buck - as oppose to paying $12.50 for the stock. You could also pick up some GGWS which GG's warrant expiring one year from this FEB - GG's going higher & there is certainly some leverage there - those warrants are out-of-the-money, but not by enough to be deterred. The stock could move up into the AEM range & that certainly takes the warrants into the money. Warrant play is tricky though & unlike the AUY warrants, the liquidity in GGWS is not great.

Thanks. Bill Sardi had mentioned the same Italian study that showed effectivness against influenza.
"In 2005 researchers in Rome, Italy wondered what backup treatment could be used in the event vaccines were unavailable or were ineffective against a fast mutating flu virus that had developed resistance to vaccines or anti-viral drugs like Tamiflu or Relenza.
"Flu viruses require a host cell to replicate. The Italian researchers report that resveratrol, known as a red wine molecule, completely blocks entry of flu viruses into the cell nucleus in animals at a human equivalent dose of ~70 milligrams. [Journal Infectious Disease 2005 May 15; 191(10):1719–29] So the virus would enter the lungs, antibodies would still be generated to produce long-term immunity, but the virus could not duplicate into millions of daughter virions as it normally does. Resveratrol works on closing the cellular doorway rather than destroying the virus itself. Therefore it is a totally non-toxic approach to control of influenza viruses. Furthermore, resveratrol does not provoke viral resistance."

Late this summer, Enbridge Energy began building a crude oil pipeline from Canada, across northern Minnesota to Superior, Wis. The Bemidji area alone saw an influx of close to 800 well-paid pipeline workers. Some were hired locally, and some come from other parts of the country.
And there’s another project stimulating the local economy. The city is building a $33 million facility that includes a hockey arena for Bemidji State University.

- Resveratrol has an antiviral action against polyomavirus --
Smythe, 15:36:45 11/09/09 Mon
CONCLUSION: Resveratrol is cytotoxic and inhibits, in a dose dependent fashion, the synthesis of polyomavirus DNA in the infected cell. Furthermore, this inhibition is observed at non cytotoxic concentrations of the drug. Our data imply that cyto-toxicity may be attributed to the membrane damage caused by the drug and that the transfer of polyomavirus from the endoplasmic reticulum to the cytoplasm may be hindered. In conclusion, the cytotoxic and antiviral properties of resveratrol make it a potential candidate for the clinical control of proliferative as well as viral pathologies.

- The Anti-Federalists on Standing Armies --
JoeB, 15:30:15 11/09/09 Mon
http://www.lewrockwell.com/vance/vance110.html
snippet:
It is not just the Anti-Federalists who were opposed to standing armies. James Madison, "The Father of the Constitution," voiced his concern as well:
A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty. The means of defence against foreign danger, have been always the instruments of tyranny at home. Among the Romans it was a standing maxim to excite a war, whenever a revolt was apprehended. Throughout all Europe, the armies kept up under the pretext of defending, have enslaved the people.
Of all the enemies to public liberty, war is perhaps the most to be dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few.
Thomas Jefferson not only included standing armies in the Declaration of Independence as a component of British tyranny, he likewise despairingly described them elsewhere:
There are instruments so dangerous to the rights of the nation and which place them so totally at the mercy of their governors that those governors, whether legislative or executive, should be restrained from keeping such instruments on foot but in well-defined cases. Such an instrument is a standing army.
Were armies to be raised whenever a speck of war is visible in our horizon, we never should have been without them. Our resources would have been exhausted on dangers which have never happened, instead of being reserved for what is really to take place.
Nor is it conceived needful or safe that a standing army should be kept up in time of peace.

I have posted on this subject in the past. Again, it is pure economics. Military spending is a huge welfare subsidy to the Old South. Military bases are numerous as are military contract companies all across the old Confederacy. My dad was a marine during WWII and told me once, "if it wasn't for marching and soldering, half the old South would have stayed out of work after the Great Depression. Sure, the old days have changed and high tech and medical research has come to the south. However, if you factor in the bases, military spending is the federal tit that southerns have clasped onto and they suckle on it from morning to night. The right wing hypocrisy IS part of the Red State culture.

which framed the reasoning behind the US COnstitution, were on the subject of "Trade - International" and "Security" - identifying those two primary reasons to ratify a Union of the States into a greater cause. SO bitching about the Military makes no sense - it was the original intent of our Founders to have a strong central security aparatus, as well as a strong united front for international trade. What has crippled the US is the "Social Engineering" that men like B Obama (LBJ & Rosevelt were primary & Bush Jr was a moronic extender of such) who have diverted our resources via "Compulsive Redistribution" means - for which the constitution not only does not provide, but which destroys the Gov of the People - which was founded on the principal that the Gov cannot usurp the rights of its citizens, by perform acts a citizen cannot. A citizen has the right to trade an defend itself - he/she does not have the right to walk into one neighbors house & say "you have too much, I am taking some of yours to give to the neighbor across the street who has less" - such is thievery & such is our current GOv - it is no longer the Gov of the People, but an entity that usurps arrogantly usurps the rights it was originally granted.

SUPPLEMENT/MEDICATION /COMPOUND NAME: Resveratrol
USE: Anti-viral effect versus influenza-A.
“We have shown that RV [resveratrol], a natural polyphenol whose concentration in red wine is 1.5–3.0 mg/L, can inhibit the in vitro and in vivo replication of influenza A virus without producing any significant toxicity.” The level of virus found in the lungs 6 days after infection was 98% lower in treated mice than in the placebo group” SOURCE

Gold up .............the Senate will pass this late some nite just before they go on their junkets for the Xmas holidays.
Many say this will backfire on the Democrats, I say it will backfire on the Republicans and then you'll see the lopsided huge majority of the Democrat Senate and Congress pass a shitstorm of their legislation in O'Quincy's second term.
Repuyblicans will then be using the "N" word likes its French word..............
I say...........there's atleast a 60% margin on any heatthcare line item on any bill so let the competion begin just like they do at Walmart. The single payer system is on its way whether U bugz like it or not
