 A man leapt from rock to rock on the battered landscape, trying to keep out of the line of the brilliant rays of death being launched from both sides. Several lengths of chain trailed behind him, rattling in the wind and clanking off of the monoliths.

Stopping on top of one of the pillars, he gazed down at a small grouping of soldiers below him, his eyes narrowing. He moved his hand onto the hilt of the sword tucked into his belt, which was partially obscured by his ragged brown cloak, and sent himself spiraling down onto the grouping.

He rolled as he struck the ground, pulling the curved blade from its holder as he rose, and brought it in a diagonal arc, decapitating one of the men who had not had the time to get on his guard, sending a crimson spray onto the surrounding stone.

In a fluid motion, he pivoted to face the other two soldiers. Rookies, by the look of them. For godsakes, they were nearly pissing themselves at the first sight of blood. This was a waste of time.

The man swung his left arm into line with the men and squinted one of his eyes. There was a sharp click, and silvery strands shot forth from the three holes in the front of the arm-mounted cannon. The strands tore through the chests of the young men, then retracted back into the cannon, letting the mangled bodies fall to the ground.

Sheathing his sword and muttering curses, the figure ran back into the fray.
