Subject: Well, I see the hatchets are already out and The Playboy Club has been cancelled after 3 episodes. Cibrian is not bad on the eyes, but what frosts me the most is that a Parental TV Group was right on the trail to axe it. What are the kids doing up at that hour? It didn't have the ratings in the 18-49 group!! Well, I'm well beyond that group and I count. Just sounding off...

[> [> I haven't had a chance to watch Pan Am yet - but if it's accurate at all I thinik it would be a great chance for the younger generation to see what it was like. I was born in 1960 so by the time I graduated high school most colleges, law and medical schools were coed and even though there was still a fuss about equal rights amenment - none of else felt slighted or like the 'fairer' sex. But i still remember when most moms stayed home and my mom couldn't buy a house for one reason - she didn't have a man to cosign- that's the reason the bank gave -- chris k, 09:36:53 10/06/11 Thu [1]

[> Now don't kill me Jenks, but I find the very idea of a TV show about the Playboy Club and it's Bunnies offensive. You know what a Feminist(sp) I am. LOL!! I was not surprised to hear it was getting the axe. KIds should not be up at that hour and you know the networks don't care what we 50 and up like. We don't exist to them. Have you seen what scored high with the critics in the TV Guide this week. Not anything I liked and everything I disliked. Maybe that's why I read so much!! -- Cathy F., 01:07:50 10/06/11 Thu [1]

[> [> Thats why I like Pan Am so much, the show really gives a great view of how things were for women back then, it was a bit before my time, but my sis loves it. I still would love to have CatMom's' input on that show. -- mkim, 01:51:15 10/06/11 Thu [1]

[> I know that others would find it offensive, but I listened to an interview that Cibrian did with Rachel Ray and he made some good points, one being that the men brought their wives to dinner for the food and entertainment, not just the ladies. Maybe I'll look the club up and we do have to remember what Chicago was like in those days. I saw the listing and I watch all of them except MF, DWTS, and BBT. I really hope they give some time to the other new ones. -- jenks-no way would I kill you for our differences of opinion, my beloved friend, 07:11:55 10/06/11 Thu [1]

[> [> I'd been to the playboy club in manhattan a few times back in the late 70s early 80s. It didn't feel sexist - and it was a dress nice to go place and had an exclusive feel to it. I had no trouble going there - it was fun stepping up to the more sophisticated side of NYC- -- chris k, 09:33:59 10/06/11 Thu [1]

[> Back in the early 70's I worked at a Playboy club - in the office! Even in those days the costume would not fit me! More... -- Wolfeylady, 12:35:43 10/06/11 Thu [1]

It wasn't just a men's club - I went one time with a group of women to see a show. Most of the bunnies were very nice hardworking girls, and let's face it, they were glamorized cocktail waitresses. And unlike regular waitresses, they had to wear high heels. The wages were waitress wages - like all waitresses they were expected to depend on tips. And the costumes were torture - many of the girls had to "enhance" the top, not because they weren't well endowed, but because of the fit. There were stays in the middle that squeezed and pinched. Also, clients were not allowed to touch - it could get them thrown out.I didn't get a chance to watch because of the time, so I don't know anything about the show. I suppose the clubs "objectivized" women, but they worked them hard too.

[> I think one of the things about TPC getting axed that really irritates me is this parents' group. Whatever takes place at 10:00 is supposed to be more adult oriented and I've seen worse at 9:00. If your 16 yr.+ older is watching it in HIS/HER room, then who's to blame? One problem we have these days is all the kids with TVs in their rooms so parents can watch what they want in the den/living room. TPC ratings may have been low, but three episodes does not constitute ditching it. DVRs are going all the time. -- jenks-another sound-off, 08:42:56 10/07/11 Fri [1]

[> [> i hate central time - every where else 10pm programs air at 10 - why is central time zone the lucky ones who have to watch 9 & 10 pm adult programs at 8 & 9. I've always disliked that. as for tvs in the bedrooms - I'm probably one of the few people of my generation who refused to let my kids have 'entertainment' in their rooms - we had an office with the computer we all shared- though now everyone has a laptop- & the only tvs were in the living room & our master bedroom. I'd worry about a lot of other things on tv if I were the parents group - and I'm a conservative parent!! -- chris k, 01:55:05 10/08/11 Sat [1]

[> Well, to be fair, it wasn't just the parents' group that was against it. There were a lot of diehard feminists that were against it too. It was getting darts thrown at it from both sides. I agree with those that think it's always interesting to show things the way they were from a historical perspective. See how far we've come, so to speak. I heard that Hugh Hefner said the show should have been on cable instead, and I think he's right. It probably would have lasted on cable. -- JAG Junkie (Ronda)--I didn't actually watch the show, so I can't comment further., 10:58:01 10/08/11 Sat [1]

[> [> I realize, JJ, that it wasn't just the parent group, but my point is that these groups need to back off and let the rest of the public decide. I really don't want, at 65, a parent group or a bunch of feminists dictating what I watch or choose not to watch. I think that Hef is right about the cable aspect, but then those same people would be having a hissy fit just the same. -- jenks, 18:03:29 10/08/11 Sat [1]

[> [> [> True, but I don't think their hissy fits would have stopped it if it had been on cable. Look at the shows that HAVE lasted on cable despite objections by various groups: Sex and the City, Mad Men, etc. -- JJ (Ronda), 23:28:37 10/08/11 Sat [1]
