Results - Week Six -- Harm and the rookie, 21:05:18 10/16/11 Sun [9]
Well this week ended up being a week of the coaches, 49ner's and Lions coaches almost came to blows after their game (Detroit was handed their first loss leaving the Green Bay Packers the only unbeaten team) and the Saints head coach, Sean Payton, got caught on the sideline at the end of a play in the first quarter. Results - MCL tear and broken tibia. He didn't return to the field after halftime. As for the teams?

Scores for this week's picks, Falcons over Panthers 31-17, Giants squeaked by the Bills 27-24 , Raiders over the Browns 24-17 and Buccaneers shock the Saints 26-20.

Game One has the Carolina Panthers (1-4) facing the Atlanta Falcons (2-3) . Carolina is playing better than their record shows. Their losses have all been by a touchdown or less. Can Atlanta hold them off this week?

Game two is Buffalo Bills (4-1) visiting the New York Giants (3-2) . Battle of two New York teams, which one will come out on top?

Game three finds the Cleveland Browns (2-2) vs the Oakland Raiders (3-2). Oakland just lost their long time owner Al Davis, who will be honored at the game. Will the team rise to the occasion or will they be distracted?

Finally Game four is the New Orleans Saints (4-1) taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2) . An important division game, can the Saints come marching in with a win or will the Buccaneers discover buried treasure on the field?

What a great weekend for football! This week's games were wild, some coming down to the last second. Scores for our selected games this week: Kansas City over Indianapolis (still winless) 28-24, Minnesota beat Arizonia 34-10, San Francisco beat up on Tampa Bay 48-3 and San Diego squeaked out on top of Denver 29-24.

Week Five games

Game One has the Kansas City Chiefs (1-3) meeting the Indianapolis Colts (0-4) . The injury plagued Colts are looking for their first win while the Chiefs, also suffering from injured key players are hoping for a 2 games winning streak.

Game two is the Arizona Cardinals (1-3) facing the Minnesota Vikings ( 0-4) . Interesting match up between two former Philadelphia Eagle quarterbacks. Philly traded Donovan McNabb (now Arizona's quarterback) to make room for Kevin Kolb (now Minnesota's quarterback). Wonder who's going to come out on top?
Game three finds the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1) traveling to face the San Francisco 49ers (3-1) . One has to wonder how prepared the Bucs will be after playing on Monday night.

Finally Game four is the San Diego Chargers (3-1) vs. the Denver Broncos (1-3) . Can the Chargers perform in Mile High Stadium or will the Broncos have an advantage being home?

Scores for this weeks games, Titans over the Browns, 31-13; Texans beat the Steelers, 17-10; Patriots topped the Raiders, 31-19; and the Ravens bested the Jets, 34-17.

While Harm was TDY in Baltimore he took time to visit his old stomping grounds at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. As he walked "The Yard", he reminisced about his time there. Late nights in Bancroft Hall, early morning runs along the Chesapeake Bay, climbing the Herndon Monument at the end of his Plebe year. The services attended at the Academy chapel. He was able to end his trip down memory lane, by attending the Air Force-Navy football game. Air Force and Navy teams were completing for a shot at the Commander-in-chief's trophy. The game was an exciting one with Navy coming from behind to tie in the last seconds of the game, only to lose the game in overtime, 35-34.
Harm was devastated, as were all the midshipman.

Picks for Week Four

It was hard to pin Harm down this week for his football picks. First he was preoccupied with someone handing him his tools. Then I caught him getting a massage, said his back hurt from looking behind him all week. Never did understand that one. The last time I tried his yeoman said he was TDY in Baltimore and was unavailable, so I figured if Baltimore was where Harm was we should go there too. (Along with a few other cities in the AFC). All teams this week have a record of 2-1.

Week Four games

Game One we will travel to Cleveland where the Tennessee Titans will be facing the Cleveland Browns . The Titans are coming off a 2 game winning streak, but then so are the Cleveland Browns.

Game two has us moving further south to Houston to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers try to upset the Houston Texans . The Steelers have won their last two games and Houston is coming off a loss.

Game three will be on the sunny west coast where the New England Patriots will be visiting the Oakland Raiders . The Patriots are coming off a loss and the Raiders can't decided if they want a winning streak or a losing streak, their record is W-L-W.

Finally Game four brings us back to the east coast where the New York Jets will take on the Baltimore Ravens (wonder if Harm has tickets?). The Jets are coming off a loss while the Ravens will have a two game winning streak - if they win this one.

After this week's games, Harm had to check to make sure pigs weren't flying. (Unheard of things happened in football this week) In overtime the Detroit Lions beat the Minnesota Vikings, 26-23 snapping a 13 game losing streak with the Vikings. This is the first time in 31 YEARS the Lions have started 3-0. Then in game two, with 3 seconds on the clock the Buffalo Bills upset the New England Patriots 34-31 bringing to halt the Bills 15 consecutive losses against the Patriots. The last time the Bills beat the Patriots was in 2003. Game three was a low scoring one with the San Francisco 49ner's beat the Cincinnati Bengal's 13-8. To round out the weirdness, Monday night saw the kickers get a workout. There were 9 field goals kicked in the game, with Dallas beating Washington 18-16.

Picks for Week Three -- Harm and the rookie, 20:36:21 09/22/11 Thu [18]
Harm has been difficult to reach this week. I've driven by his loft, checked the airfield, even sat through a boring court-martial but Harm wasn't to be found. I was sure it had something to do with last week's winners, but when we finally connected he assured me he was just resting in between prizes. Seems we really gave him a workout. He been able to keep everyone happy, well except MAC who is apparently still upset she missed a deadline. I wasn't going to tell him it was the football pool deadline. Anyhow after much discussion, here are Harm's picks for this week.

Week Three games

Game One is a match up of the undefeated, the New England Patriots (2-0) and the Buffalo Bills (2-0) . I told Harm we just had Buffalo in last week's games, but he argued back we couldn't pass up the fact that it was two of the seven undefeated teams playing each other. Someone has to lose!

Game two finds the Detroit Lions (2-0) facing the Minnesota Vikings (0-2) . I know the Vikings haven't won yet but are the Lions for real this year? This game should tell the tale. It's an important division game.

Game three has the San Francisco 49ers (1-1) facing the Cincinnati Bengals (1-1) . Both teams are coming off close losses, which one will recover in time to put a Win on the board?

Finally Harm couldn't pass up the Cowboys and the Indians match up. Game four on Monday night will see the Washington Redskins (2-0) ride into town to meet the Dallas Cowboys (1-1) in another divisional match-up. This is an old rivalry that started in 1960. Dallas currently holds the lead with 60 wins. Can they make it 61, or is this the year the Redskins beat the Cowboys! (Doesn't Harm look good on that horse?)

Harm tells me our teams this week played in some exciting games. In a nail bitter to the very end, Buffalo Bills managed to hang on to beat the Oakland Raiders 38-35. The Cleveland Browns came to Indianapolis and beat the Colts 27-19. While the Houston Texans handed the Miami Dolphins their second loss of the season, 23-13. Monday night the NY Giants defeated the St Louis Rams 28-16.

Sorry for the delay in this weeks picks, Harm had been MIA. At first I thought it had something to do with the fact that we haven't heard from Angela- mommy of two JAGlettes since she won last week. But when I finally got hold of Harm he told me it wasn't Angela, their time togather was perfect, even if she is being quiet about it. His problem was he caught a cold with all the shirt taking on and off AND his fingers and throat are
sore due to the guitar playing and songs he'd song this week. But Mac has him fit as a fiddle now and he's ready for week two. Here are his game selections:

Week Two games

Game One is a match up between the Oakland Raiders (1-0) and the Buffalo Bills (1-0) .Oakland is playing after a short week (they played Monday night) but first year Coach Hue Jackson has confidence they are up for the challenge. For Buffalo, they are hoping for a 2-0 start, something they have had since 2008.

Game two finds the Cleveland Browns (0-1) visiting the Indianapolis Colts (0-1) The Browns hope Colt McCoy will get his bearings and lead them to a victory. While the Colts will again be without a Manning as quarterback, depending on Kerry Collins to bring them their first win.

Game three has the Houston Texans (1-0) facing the Miami Dolphins(0-1) Houston is looking to extend it's win streak while Miami is still wondering what happened last week against New England. They hope to get their act together in time to put a check in the win column this week.

Finally Game four on Monday night has the St. Louis Rams (0-1) meeting the New York Giants (0-1). Both teams are already banged up and it's only week two! The Head Coach for St. Louis, Steve Spagnuolo, might have a few deja vu moments Monday night as last year he was the defensive coach for the Giants. Two things are for sure, Eli will be the only Manning brother playing football this week and one of these two teams will have a win.

Picks for Week One

I have it on good authority Harm has been working out during the off season. Long runs on the beach, weight training, swimming and bike riding. His endurance levels are high, his stamina is strong. He's pumped and ready to play. So let's play!

Each week Harm (with my help) will select four games and I'll have them posted by Tuesday. (Unless Harm and I get sidetracked and then it might be Wednesday). All you have to do is pick who you think will win each game. A game might garner national attention, be a division rivalry, or determine playoff slots. Each of the 32 teams will make an appearance at least once. For each winning team you pick you get a prize (Harm). The more winners you pick the "better" the prize. Even if you don't pick a single winner you will get "something" of Harm :). So now is the time ladies, Harm's a waiting!

Week One games - revisiting the NFC & AFC 2010 playoff teams. Did they lose too many players in the off season? Have they improved? Can they do it again?

Game One is a match up between the 2009 Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints and the 2010 Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers .
The game is being played in Green Bay and I can guarantee one thing - there won't be snow on the ground! This game is the kickoff for the 2011 NFL season and is being played Thursday night before a national audience. Do the Packers have what it takes to repeat? Can the Saints upset the defending Super Bowl Champions on their home turf? We'll find out Thursday night.

Game two is a replay of one of the 2010 AFC divisional playoff games. The Pittsburgh Steelers will take on the Baltimore Ravens . Who's going to come out on top this time?

Game three is the match up between the Atlanta Falcons and the Chicago Bears . Both teams were division leaders last year but couldn't get past Green Bay. Have they got what it takes to go all the way this year?

Game four finds the Dallas Cowboys facing the New York Jets . Is this the year of the Jets or will the Cowboys steal the show?

Well it's that time of year again, time to get out your blue boa and stiletto heels and get ready for a some FOOTBALL! Well maybe not football so much as the PRIZE you could win if you PICK the winning teams! And what better prize than HARM! I've spoken with Harm and Mac, he's will and able to fulfill all prizes AND she's agreed not to engage in stealth maneuvers during the "prize award" times. Most of you can already tell that I am a huge baseball fan. I have not been a fair weather fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, but have been there through good times and lately through the bad times.

Last night, I managed to stay awake until the 15th inning of the Pirates game with the Atlanta Braves. The game went into the 19th inning. Lugo hit the ball up to our 3rd baseman who threw it home. The runner at 3rd was tagged out BEFORE he even touched home, but the umpire who must have been tired and wanted to end the game, called him safe. The Pirates ended up losing 4-3 because of that call.
And because of that horrible call, they went from tied for first place to 3rd place in the NL Central division.

Maybe it is time to have instant replay. By the way, the umpire said that he blew the call and he was out. Our manager, Clint Hurdle wants an apology, although, it won't change the outcome of the game.

While this may not mean a whole lot to anyone else, it has been 19 years since the Pirates have had any kind of a winning season and the city is just going wild! It's been so depressing to go to a game and watch them lose. then halfway through the season, the entire team is traded away for new prospects and we start the re-building stage all over again. I was just hoping for a .500 season, but this is SOOOO good! The sad thing is that my husband and I had partial season tickets and last year was so upset by what happened at the end of the season two years ago, we gave them up. Now, it is extremely hard to get any kind of ticket to the games.

It has been 32 years since the Pirates won a World Series, could this be the year? I certainly hope so, but for right now, I am so excited and enjoying watching them on TV.

It is just so hard to believe that at the beginning of July our Buccos are 3 games over .500 AND ONE game out of first place. Way to go Pirates. Now lets just hope that the Pirates management doesn't pull what they have done over the last 18 years....trade all of our good players away and "rebuild" the team. We have had 4 straight sellout games at home and it's not just because of the fireworks!

The only down side to all of this is the snubbing og Andrew McCutcheon in the All Star game. The guy is playing so well and it is just a shame that the players are picked not for their talent but for their popularity.
I for one will not be watching the game next week. BUT, it is just so much fun to watch this team evolve. We are loving it.

- Harm has been so busy helping out that we haven't had time to look at the draw. Then he had to check on me after hearing there were two quakes up here today. Now that Football season is over, Harm was looking for some more excitement and decided to travel south. He wants to know if anyone is interested in helping him to understand what Rugby is all about. The new super season is about to start and then we have the world cup later in the year.
