Football Results Week Fourteen -- judi, 15:03:23 12/11/07 Tue [17]
This week we had a record NINE Harmies who got all four right. So we had to use the tie breaker which was 48 and the winnnneeerrr isssss Pretz. Now you have something to get excited about since your Redskins suck, (ha ha from a Cowboys fan). Anyway, Pretz you get

Harm has asked me to give another special first place award to Zapper. She was off only 1 for the tiebreaker but more importantly, Harm says you deserve it for what you've gone through this year. Harm says you're an amazing woman and I agree. Soooooo Zapper you also get for the night !!!

Football Picks Week Fourteen -- judi and Harm, 04:25:21 12/05/07 Wed [29]
With four more weeks in the regular season, only two teams are for sure in the playoffs: the Pats and my Cowboys. I suspect next week, the Packers will too and Indy has the Jags nipping on their heels. So what about the rest? Well, lets get on with it.

Game One:San Diego Chargers @ Tennessee Titans
Harm says both the Chargers and the Titans are 7 and 5, yet the Chargers are leading their division and the Titans are third in theirs. Both teams are still in the hunt and both teams are inconsistent. Which team will show up this week.

Game Two:Philadelphia Eagles @ the New York Giants
Harm says both teams have a shot at a wild card. The Giants have a better record but the Eagles almost beat the Pats.

Game Three: Arizona Cardinals @ Seattle Seahawks
Seattle is leading the division and the Cards are second. Harm says the Seahawks have shown some signs of brilliance but don't seem to wake up til well into the second quarter and the Cards did beat them once this season. Can they do it again?

Game Four: New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons
Harm says the Saints (along with the Chargers) are the biggest disapppointments of the season but the Saints have a better record then those hapless Vickless-Falcons and they are both coming off losses.

OK, I know that I have been MIA for quite a while, but I have been checking things out and I was a little surprised that no one commented on last week's Mud Bowl here in Pittsburgh! Heinz Field took a beating with 4 high school playoff games in one day and then a Pitt game the next day. I understand why the Rooney's tried to "fix" the field. It really did take a beating. They just didn't listen to the weather reports. We knew it was going to rain on Monday. I really don't think anyone knew that we were going to need an ark to get to the game on Monday. It hasn't rained that hard since the remants of Hurricane Ivan came through this area a couple of years ago. Ideally, they should have waited at least a week to play on the field, not several hours. Sunday night's game really wasn't much better. Still had rain, although it wasn't as hard. They had a couple of tarps on the field, but as the game went on, you could see the field getting bad. The good thing is that the Steelers won BOTH games and the next team we take on is the Patriots. I know that no one else but me will agree that I think the Steelers will be the ones who can beat the Patriots!

By the way...did everyone see the Primanti sandwiches being made during one of the breaks Sunday night? If anyone ever gets to Pittsburgh, you have to try one. They are the best!

- Carly, I can't go through another BCS again. I'm tired of hearing the Buckeyes bashed because of their schedule. Granted, their first three games were against non div 1A teams and they did kind of back into it. I still hate to hear them bashed.   - I do wish there was a playoff system. The Big Ten does need to have championship game though Ohio State would have won that anyway. Look at the NFL, there are teams that win their division who aren't near as good as another team in another division who didn't make the playoffs because they were in a stronger division. - I am a Pitt fan, but I really felt so bad for WVU. I said that to two Pitt grads on Sunday. They also said that it was a bittersweet win for them also. While I'm thrilled the Cowboys are 11 and 1, I was disappointed that Favre had a bad game and got injured. I wanted both qbs to excel with Dallas coming out on top.

But that is not the point of this thread.

I always loved the way Favre plays. He really seems to love the game of football. He's not doing it for the glory (which he's had a lot of) or the money (which is plentiful) but because he loves to play. You can tell.

I think Romo is like a young Favre. I know their styles have been compared but to me it's Romo's love of the game that is the most Favre like. It's a blast to watch these two guys play. It's infectious and makes me love to watch and root for them.

I loved watching them before the game just chatting and lauging with each other.

One thing that put me off baseball was the lack of joy and fun in the game. It was a business. I know football is too and yes, I love football, the game more, but it is so much fun to see a couple of guys enjoy the game so much.

It doesn't hurt that both guys are on the Harm scale.

On another note, the Sean Taylor death is so sad. Here is someone who turned himself around and was a brilliant athlete and it looks like his past may have come back and it killed him. i love the way they had a moment of silence and how everyone is wearing 21 on their sleeves.

- Playing consistantly, like they managed to do Thursday, is the best way for the 'Boys to get their tickets punched for the Super Bowl. I was very pleased with the game against GB. Also, I think what happened to SeanTaylor is a true tragedy. I think what made it saddest for me, was the only reason he is dead is because he was at home when those four robbers thought he was away. Harm is sorry he wasn't available for week twelve, but they were celebrating Thanksgiving with Trish and Frank. Harm said he had fun on Thanksgiving day watching the Colts, da Boys and the Pack with big wins. He said those are three of the best four teams (the 4th being the Pats, obviously) He said two of those teams will be in the Superbowl.

But now for this weeks picks:
Game One:Greenbay Packers @ Dallas Cowboys
Harm says this is the big game of the week and it is one of the biggest games of the year. These are the 2 top teams in the NFC. It will be Farvre (oldie but having an incredible year) and Romo (young but also having a fantastic year). Harm thinks this one is a draw. What do you think?

Game Two:Jacksonville Jaguars @ Indianapolis Colts
Harm says is a huge game too with these two rivals playing for the lead in the AFC South. The Jags have something to prove and the Colts aren't 100% healthy yet but they're getting there.

Game Three: Cleveland Browns @ Arizona Cardinals

Harm says the Brownies are on a roll and having their best year since they were kidnapped and moved to Baltimore at 7 and 4. The Cards lost in OT to the Niners but they still have a good team and are at home.

Game Four: New York Giants @ Chicago Bears

Harm says both teams are struggling on offense and have a lot of turnovers. So it will depend on the defenses.

Harm says it's getting harder and harder to pick good games because there are so many uneven matchups. You have some really good teams: (Pats, da Boys, Colts and the Pack) and some really bad teams too (I won't name them here). There's some in the middle but not many. Soooo, he did his best and here goes the picks for week 11.

Game One:San Diego Chargers @ Jacksonville Jaguars
The Chargers beat the superbowl champs last week but the week before was annihilated by the struggling Vikings. The Jags are 6 and 3 and I like them because of their name and the coach is Jack del Rio from the super bowl Cowboys but neither are good reasons to pick them.

Game Two:New York Giants @ Detroit Lions
Both the Giants and Lions are coming off tough losses from week 10. The Giants had a chance to take control of their division and instead are now more then 2 games behind da Boys (yea!!! sorry to all Giant fans. LOL) The Lions were suprised by the Cardinals last week. A lot of people lost money on that one.

Game Three: St. Louis Rams @ San Francisco 49ers

The Rams finally won their first game. Are they on a roll???? The Niners got shut-out by Seattle and don't seem to have a cohesive offense. Harm says these teams are both pretty bad, but are the Rams showing some life? And the Niners do have Frank Gore.

Game Four: Tennnessee Titans @ Denver Broncos

The Titans have a good record but is Vince healthy? They are playing in the Mile High City and it is always difficult to play there and Denver did win last week. Still they are below 500 for good reason.

Today, Saturday, our varsity soccer team is playing for the Pennsylvania state chamionship. Can you believe that? Everything around here has been football this and football that, but here has been our soccer team plugging along in the playoffs and now they are playing in the STATE championships! That is so awesome. My kids played soccer for ever when theywere younger and it is so nice to see this program develop into the winning program it is today. The coach is in his first year of coaching and the really nice thing is that he is an alumnus of Mars High. He played on that team while he was in high school.

They are playing Palmyra High school and I hope I don't offend anyone from the eastern part of the state, but I have no idea of where that is! I just hope that we win. They deserve it.

What a strange season this is. It seems the pundits already have the superbowl figured out: The Pats vs the Cowboys and the Pats winning by a lot. I am a diehard Cowboys fan but I prefer the excitement of not knowing who's going to end up standing in the end. I must say though that I am excited by the Romo factor with the Cowboys and what Bret Farvre (the old guy, LOL) has done this season.

But on to more important things like the winner of this weeks night with Harm. We had three of you getting all four right so once again, we had to use the tie breaker which was 58. Buttttt both kstorm and Gibson picked the same tiebreaker of 38. The third winner, JAG Junkie picked 33. What to do, what to do!

- Katiegirl, I don't think Netball is known so well in N.America. I live in Vancouver, Canada, where there are a lot of British Commonwealth expats. There is (or was) a Vancouver Netball Assoc., Provincial and National teams. But it was played mostly by women who grew up in Comm. countries, not played in the schools.
