The night had traded its dusky purples hues for that of inky blackness as the hours passed, bringing a chilling dampness to the air. Blanketed by a warm cloak of memories, he fell into an accidental doze...dreaming of love, laughter, and happiness. The things he'd had so fleetingly in his life, and lost with no one to blame but himself.

By the time the back door of the club opened and the figure stepped out, he'd slipped away deeply. He stirred briefly when the man began to approach, but was not fully wakened until he felt a nudge against his boot.

He blinked rapidly in attempt to clear the sleepy haze from his brain. His dark gaze swept the alley in confusion as he tried to remember his surroundings. When his eyes settled on the sign for the club, realization overtook him and his gaze shot to the man standing over him. It didn't register for a moment that the man had spoke. "No..." He cleared his throat and got to his feet, his muscles stiffened by the awkward position in which he'd slept. "No...but thanks." His dark eyes drift toward the door that was being propped open. He could see movement of the patrons, but that was all. He looked back to the stranger. "Sorry." He said lamely, and started down the alley again. He'd made a critical mistake by allowing himself to drift off. It had called attention to him, and by that he couldn't abide. He desperately hoped the man would pass him off as another homeless soul and forget about him by the end of his smoke break.
