Subject: I don't know who is staking out positions...

All I said was I missed the liberal element in Columbus. I stated that my thoughts were a generalization, too, and as such, I am sure that there are plenty of exceptions.

I have lived in many places, visited many countries, and it is just my opinion, but Columbus is very conservative in its views. When I say conservative, examples would be these:

Only in Columbus have I gone riding my bike and had stuff thrown at me, people nearly running me down and people screaming and cursing at me. Why? Because people on bicycles, evidently, are rather poor cases and need treatment. Anyone who doesn't drive a car is a loser, I guess! Preconceived notions because people have not been exposed to cyclists a great deal and people generally attack what they don't understand. I am not sure what they don't understand, but they apparently take great issue with bikers!!! :)

Another example: My wife and I are going to have a baby. We wanted to do it at home. When we tell people this in Columbus, they look at us as if we've lost our minds! We looked for a midwife and found that there were none in Columbus? Why? Because people here are conservative in their views about childbirth, holding to more "safe" and "conservative" modes of doing things. When we finally found a midwife, she told us that she almost never delivers babies here, but is busy in many other areas. She has delivered over 400 babies without a hitch, I might add! ;)

Another example: There are no adult book stores or movie houses allowed here because it is not "family" oriented. As if you could have a family without fucking someone!!! LOL

These are just a few examples. I am not disparaging the people here. All I am saying is that their way of thinking does not diverge much from that which was taught to them from within the community. They accept differences, but more grudgingly than other communities. This could be because people don't travel much, haven't been exposed as much, or are more keen to accept things the way they are here because life is easy and convenient for them here and it is a tried and true method of living. Nothing wrong with that, either. Columbus is a nice town (excepting the smell) but its people are rather hobbit-like. :) There's nothing wrong with hobbits, but I miss Gandalfs and Galadriels on occasion, too. It is just a statement. I am not making a defense for my views, because, well, it is just my opinion. I am not attempting to put anyone down. It is just the way things are here. It is neither good nor bad. I just miss certain aspects of other communities at times. No biggie, really.
