Beg to differ. You were the one sneering. I was expressing frustration that I could not get Indian students to apply for academic goodies and your sneering response was that such goodies are irrelevant.

It seems to me rational to ask about the relevance of the particular schools you were visiting as opposed to the ones that concern me. If your point is that Indian students should not aspire to be players where the emphasis is on theory rather than practice, then I disagree.

In my discipline, criminal justice, somebody has to teach policy making and somebody has to teach handcuffs 101--both are relevant to the real world; some students are better suited to one than the other.

I will not agree that the more abstract endeavors are beyond the capability of Indian students. If you are saying something different, I'm listening.
