Hi all -

I've been reading this site from time to time for a few months and I finally decided to post.

I'm a 40 year old male and I've pretty much decided, after thinking about it for a few years, to go ahead and get braces to correct a few things about my smile that I don't like.

I went to one consultation and was offered metal and ceramic braces (which cost $500 more). I am tempted to pick the metal braces not only because they are cheaper but also because the orthodontist said that all things being equal he prefers them over the ceramic. I was just about to pick metal for sure, but I've gotten nervous, given my age and the fact that I have a professional work position.

I was wondering if there are any readers out there in a similar position to me who chose metal brackets. Do you feel you made a good choice? Do you feel self-conscious with them? How do other people react to them?
