Jessie Bennett, formerly the Executive Director of the Miss Arkansas Competition, and Ashley Byrd, formerly the Executive Director of the Miss South Carolina Competition, who were put forward by their fellow state Executive Directors to represent the states at this critical phase of our restructuring. They will lend valuable insight and direction for the future of the program. Both willingly resigned their positions as Executive Directors so as to avoid any conflicts. Subsequent to serving on the board, they can be considered for reappointment as Executive Directors in their states. We welcome their leadership and look forward to working together in shaping Miss America in 2018 and beyond.

Then I see those winners from SC go to another system and some don't place in top ten. I've also seen girls who Miss SC wouldn't even include in top 15 go on to do very well in other systems. Once again SC sent a wonderful representative. Despite a good bit of criticism, Roberts was a FORCE. I thought she did great. i think she should have been top 5. She looked great all night and i would say her talent was easily the best dance of the night and possible the best talent of all those televised. Better than the vocalists for sure and not much in terms of dance ability from anyone - including the winner! LA was a doll, but she blew the question. Subject: Should I go against my instinct and let my daughter compete in Miss SC?

Beforehand she had mock interviews with experienced judges and they rated her as excellent. Her piano skills were great, her evening gown, top notch. Still no top 15. She competed in another system recently and won overall interview and placed 1st runner up against 43 girls. Very beautiful and smart girls. Now, in her heart, she wants to compete in Miss SC as a Miss. Is that a waste of time? Do you have to be in a circle of people that is wanted to win to place? I'm torn.

Yes, the shiny hat and title are nice, but you need to think about all of the experiences she has/would gain. She is learning how to interview with all different types of people. She is learning to network and honing her speaking skills. I have watched young women grow into themselves, discover who they are and open their minds to a world of possibilities that never thought existed. Winning the Miss South Carolina title is just icing on the cake. To those who are complaining, ask yourself what are you in this for? If it is for the girls and your contestant has become a better person from all of her hard work, community service and training, congratulations, you won! You did your job. If you are doing this for self-gratification, then prepare yourself for a lot of disappointments because only one of many deserving girls will win the title each year.
