Date Posted: Monday, January 19, 05:06:00pm

We are pleased to announce that we have picked up the Easley and Liberty Scholarship pageant for Miss South Carolina Organization for Miss America.

We are very excited and have a great committee this year. On board again, Terry Garrison will be the business manager who was the business manager for Easley last year and did a great job. Also Fallon Barnes will be on the committee who LED Miss Pickens County for the past 2 years and myself, (Theresa Woods) and Peggy Hendicks has been involved in pageants for several years and helped with the Miss Berea's Pageant and also audited for Pickens County and owned Berea First Morgage. We also have many newcomers for the committee who have pageant experience. In 2007 our Pickens County Teen won Physical Fitness and was in the top 10. Miss Liberty was a non-finalist talent winner.

If you are interested in participating in the pageant please contact us at sunhuttw@aol.com or 898-2826 (Sunhut), 878-9018, (Brooklynn's Boutique and Formal Wear,) foothillsdanceco@charter.net (Fallon Barnes) and 855-2774, (Peggy Hendricks) or call the Miss South Carolina Organization at 843-9090.

Again we are very excited to be apart of this organization this year and have many surprises instored for the winning contestants. We are now looking at dates and will put on board as soon as possible.

Thanks and Have a God filled day.

The Miss Hartsville Organization would like to thank everyone for helping us make our 70th Anniversary Pageant such a success!

First, we must thank the over 500 people who came to the Center Theater on January 3rd to support us. The generosity of our community and sponsors is unparalled and we are truly grateful for their encouragement and backing. Without them, the awards totaling over $7000 in cash scholarships, gifts and non-cash prizes would not have been possible.

We would also like to thank our 28 former titleholders, Judges, Janet Powers Roller, Joe and Gail Sanders, Anna Perry, members of the State staff, LEDs and visiting Queens for making the trip to Hartsville to be a part of our special evening. It was truly inspirational to us and to all of our outstanding contestants to put on the best show ever!

A special thank you to Morgan Dampier, Miss Hartsville 2008 and Brittany Caldwell, Miss Hartsville Teen 2008 for always representing the Miss Hartsville Organization and the City of Hartsville with grace and dignity in everything they do.

Finally, we would like to congratulate Kelly Sloan, Miss Hartsville 2009, Joelle Head, Miss Greater Hartsville 2009 and Savannah McAlister, Miss Hartsville Teen 2009 on taking home the crown.

Congratulations to all the young women already crowned and best of luck to you that will be competing. We look forward to seeing you all in Spartanburg.

Thank you again to everyone and we wish you a healthy and prosperous 2009!

Hello Everyone,

I just want to take a moment and thank everyone for the prayers sent up during the tragic death of my uncle over the Christmas holidays. Todd was a very brave man who served this country with pride and we all will miss him very much. Through his death I am learning that God promises us that He will not just lead us in the storms of life - He promises to carry us through them! And He will!

Once again, thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. I look forward to seeing many of you in March if not before.

May God Bless,

What is going on with the criminal charges against Joey and the Miss SC nurse??? What about the rest of the Sanders family??? With as much corruption in the world why are these people allowed to continue to damage the Miss South Carolina pageant.
Look at these people , they do not have your or your daughters best interest at heart. I can assure you other state programs DO NOT operate like these people.

On November 13, MAO sent us a letter stating that based on the State Operating Report that we submitted on November 4, the State Licensing Committee had made the decision not to renew the State License Agreement. As you can imagine this came as an incredible shock to us as no reasons were given. They are not required to give reasons for their decision and they did not. As per our State Operating Agreement we had 10 days in which to make a written appeal for a hearing with the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for MAO. When this happened I was on vacation and knowing that I would not be back in NYC until after the deadline for the appeal the appeal process was initiated by Linda and me on November 17.
As fate would have it, the day before (November 12) getting this letter from MAO I had received a call from our IRS project manager followed by a fax in my hotel informing me that with a final short amendment to our by-laws for Empire State Educational Scholarship Fund, Inc., we would receive our 501(c)3 certificate, and gave us a deadline of December 2 to get this to them. This was the culmination of 18+ months of intense work on the tax exempt status for the organization, which made the letter of November 13 all the more disturbing.
The Executive Committee granted our appeal and the hearing was held via conference call on November 25. Not having been given any reasons for the non-renewal of the franchise we had nothing on which to build a defense so we as a board felt the best way to approach this presentation was to give all of our accomplishments in the past 22 months of having the franchise. Almost every single member of our board helped create this outline via E-mail so that I felt that what I was presenting was a true representation of what we as a board felt had been accomplishments for the organization. We were given only 30 minutes (which was timed) in which to give our presentation to the Executive Committee. The members of the Executive Committee present via conference call were: Becky King Dreman, Donna Axum Whitworth, John Birmingham and Ryan Wuerch (for a portion of the presentation). Sam Haskell (President of the board) was not present as he was on a plane coming to New York. Also present from the MAO office were Art McMaster (President & CEO), Mary Ellen Lucia (MAO Coordinator of Operations) and Kirk Ryder (Director of Field Marketing). Mike Allegretto was not present for the hearing. The only questions aked was about the decrease in number of locals which I discussed in detail along with the efforts we were taking to increase those numbers. I informed them that we had been successful in obtaining 3 new locals and were in negotiations on 4 additional locals. The only other question asked was one to ensure that funds remained in our scholarship bank account as indicated in our State Operating Report as submitted on November 4. We assured them that this was the case and in fact we had a slight reserve. Still no reasons were given for the initial decision not to renew the State License Agreement.
On Wednesday, December 3, I received a call from Mike Allegretto then a letter notifying us that the Executive Committee had upheld the Franchise Committee's decision not to renew our License Agreement. Still no reasons were given despite asking.
Mike did tell me that the process now would be to send out solicitation letters to people who may be interested in undertaking the State License Agreement and if no one stepped up to the plate that ads would be placed in newspapers around the state.
Having put so much work, energy and planning into building this organization over the last 22 months you simply have no idea how devastating for our board this decision has been. Initially we were numb, but now we are left only with concern for what we have worked very hard to build. In the interest of the organization here in this great state we only can hope that the transition is very quick because we know that having no leadership and the organization in a state of limbo, will be devastating.
We thank you for allowing us the opportunity to work with all of you in our effort to improve, develop and build this organization. I still believe that this should be one of the greatest programs in the nation and wish you all well through this transition. I have been in close contact through this with Shelby Cohen, President/head of your Locals Association and she will follow this with an E-mail as well.
We all remain available to you via E-mail and phone.
Thank you for the support you have given us.
Paul C. Brown, MD
Executive Director
Now explain to me why this happen to an amazing group that is making a difference on both the local and state level while others that violate rules and policies are allowed to continue their program. This is just another slice added to the ever enlarging disgruntled pie that is Miss America!

I must say I was not among the cheering crowd for Maggie Hill Saturday night. Her swim suit was quite under par and even though her gown was lovely it certainly accented the work she needs to do on her body. Her talent was very good but by no means exceptional. She did well on her on stage question. I do not know this girl nor dislike her. I just found her to be tremendously overhyped. I wish her well this summer.

I know this is the Miss South Carolina board, but I would like to know if anyone knows anything about this pageant. I have competed in the Miss South Carolina pageant before and was looking to do something else. From the website it sounds similar to the America system, but there is no talent.

Please don't bash me. I am just looking for a little insight.

Thanks.

Hey Everyone!

I’ve been working with ladies in my area to prepare them for the upcoming pageant season. I have had many contestants ask me about when and where pageants will be held. I have decided to start an online pageant resource center called The Pageant Network.

Please visit the website. If you know of a pageant on the local, state, national, or international level, send the information asked for on the contact page. I will be happy to add it. If you are a director or vendor, email me if you are interested in placing an ad on the home page. Prices are very inexpensive (this is not to make money, it’s for the ladies that love to compete!) and you will be the only ad on the home page!

Hope everyone is well!

P.S. – Don’t forget to add it to your Favorites and share the site with all your pageant sisters!

Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hopefully very few have the "stomach bug" that seems to be going around. Anyway, I wanted to send a quick post to let you know about Desiree Puglia's new monthly blog. Desiree posted her first blog today, and we would love for everyone to read it. We thought this would be another great way to let others "take the journey" with her.
I hope everyone does not get offended by the MANY posts that I place on here. I just want to keep as many as possible up-to-date on the work and progress of our two wonderful representatives.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to each of you. I look forward to seeing many of you at the upcoming 2009 preliminaries.
