Subject: College Visit

Yesterday our program here sponsored a field trip to the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University. This is 4 year we have done this. We had a bus full of some of the finest high school students anywhere.

Most colleges and universities have a nice budget for this kind of thing if you can find the right person. Our trip was completely paid for by the two schools. They provided a 1st class charter bus, meals, snacks, tours of the schools, information about higher education, finiancal aid, admission, etc. It was a busy day - pulled out at 7 am - back at 7 pm.

This is not going to solve all the problems Indian People face - but it makes a difference for some of these students. We can all do some things like this - and a lot of small victories add up pretty fast. We have to keep plugging away and not give up. It took over a month of bugging the hell out of a lot of big shots to get all the approvals necessary in a school district this big. They can think of a hundred reasons to stall on it - a few calls from parents really knocks down some of these roadblocks.

Besides, if you have not spent 12 hours or so with a group of Indian Young People, you have missed one of the greatest treats in the world.

Hope everyone can find something like this for our Young People - and get it paid for by some group that forgets about Indians too often.
