  Hi everybody. I haven't been on since forever and I have missed you all terribly. I haven't been on in so long because I have just had two successive operations on my hands and haven't able to type worth a darn. I think they might have got it right this time because I am now at the stage of puttering around the keyboard. Sore but no major pain. I managed to drive today. It was so nice to be able to do that.
  
  By the way, I am also the person that was having a problem with my CPAP mask. I appreciated the suggestions very much but in the end nothing worked until they gave me a new mask that is made specificly for side sleepers. It doesn't sit over your nose like a standard mask. All the apparatus sits under your nose and is held in place by a metal and plastic band that fits over the top of your head. So if any of you out there have a simular problem, ask your doctor about getting one of these.

  I have not been to this site in almost a year. Lots has changed. I was lucky enough to order That Familiar Touch and was wondering what the newest book was about? Is it a Familiar book too or something new?
  
  And I was also curious to know about Dara's contract with Avon. I think she had a two book deal with them? She published Ritual of Proof, but was their not supposed to be another book published with this publishing house?

  i would like a moment of silence for my cousin Louis who died in Iraq to protect all of us. on tuesday, he was killed in combat, he was my age and never got to experience a real life. http://www.abcactionnews.com/stories/2005/06/050603casualty.shtml
  
  this is him and these are his parents, no parent should ever have to bury their child, especially their only child. i will miss him forever, knowing i will never see his blonde hair, crooked smile, or bony knees ever again. this war has become senseless it isn't even a war anymore. i want them all to come home. nobody should feel the pain i feel in my heart right now missing my childhood friend and family member. our consolation is the fact that he will given a full military service and be buried with veterans in Arlington cemetary. i may believe it shouldn't have happened but he died fighting for what he believed in and to protect us. while the reasons were not just, he is among those in Heaven now, taken from here much too soon. i miss and love you dear friend.

  first and foremost i would like to thank all of you for your prayers and well wishes during this difficult time, my cousin was a true hero in every sense. a week ago my stepmother e-mailed a popular radio station to tell our story and to hopefully get suggestions on how to get a way to get up to the funeral services. she was called on the air and told the events that have happened since that day. afterwards, the radio station was flooded with donations of money, the radio station called Louis's mother to find out what she wanted done with the money, and she used it to get plane tickets for all who needed them in the family to attend the ceremony, the rest of the money was set up in a fund in Denise's (Louis's mother) name giving accomodations for families of soldiers visiting their sick and injured loved ones.
  
  in his benefit, Louis stated if he was to die and was not married, that his money was to be used to pay off his mother's house. and that is exactly what is being done....
  
  thank you all for your prayers and thoughts....he was a good man and his influence is still felt.

  1. Two times a week, we go to a nice restaurant, have a little beverage, then
  comes good food and companionship. She goes on Tuesdays, I go
  on Fridays.
  
  2. We also sleep in separate beds. Hers is in Ontario and mine is in Tucson.
  
  3. I take my wife everywhere, but she keeps finding her way back.
  
  4. I asked my wife where she wanted to go for our anniversary.
  "Somewhere I haven't been in a long time!" she said. So I suggested the
  kitchen.
  I then went someplace I hadn't been in a long time: the ER
  
  5. We always hold hands. If I let go, she shops.
  
  6. She has an electric blender, electric toaster and electric bread maker.

  Marty wakes up at home with a huge hangover. He forces himself to open
  his eyes, and the first thing he sees is a couple of
  aspirins and a glass of water on the side table. He sits down and sees
  his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed. Marty
  looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotless,
  clean. So is the rest of the house. He takes the aspirins and
  notices a note on the table
  
  "Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to go shopping. Love
  you."
  
  So he goes to the kitchen and sure enough there's a hot breakfast and
  the morning newspaper. His son is also at the table,
  eating. Marty asks, "Son, what happened last night?"
  
  "Well, you came home after 3 A.M., drunk and delirious. Broke some
  furniture, puked in the hallway, and gave yourself a black
  eye when you stumbled into the door."
  
  Confused, Marty asks, "So, why is everything in oder and so clean, and
  breakfast is on the table waiting for me?"
  
  "Oh that! Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take
  your pants off, you said, "Lady, leave me alone, I'm

  Hey everyone!
  
  I just found out on Monday that I am having a Baby Boy! YAY!!!! His name is Scott Preston Hall. I am over 5 months pregnant now, and my little bump is getting bigger every week. When I had the ultrasound, I cried when I saw the baby and his cute little face. At the first ultrasound (months ago) the baby looked like a small wiggly peanut with round balls for arms and legs,(not a whole lot of shape other then that) and you could have fit 20 of him on the screen. But now..... wow. Only the face would fit, and we could only see sections at a time. He looks just like a little baby now, and not at all like a squirmy nut. Oh I am so excited! His little nose and little mouth and little fingers and toes are sooo adorible! I could not stop laughing when the lady porforming the ultrasound kept trying to take the pictures she needed of his bones, body, and heart valves and the baby would not move from his comfortable spot so she could do her job. She gently wiggled my tummy to make him move, and all he would do was roll around and settle right back where he was before. LOL. He just didn't feel like having pictures taken at the moment. LOL.

  Fair warning--this question is completely off the wall, has nothing to do with books and I'm sorry if anybody feels that this is not the place to ask it. But I have inquired repeatedly in all the proper places and am recieving no information that has been of any help what-so-ever.
  I suffer from a sleep disorder and as a consequence am cronicaly exhausted, in pain and in a perpetual fog. In an attempt to address this problem I was perscribed a CPAP machine (continuous positve airway pressure). I have tried so hard to use this darn thing (an expensive little item it was, too), but it is so incredibly uncomfortable that it is actually keeping me awake more, rather than allowing me to sleep more restfully as it is supposed to. Being a side sleeper (a position I have no choice over as it is a necessity), the mask digs into my skin as it is simultaniously pushed sideways on my face, allowing air to escape and thereby allowing my airway to collapse again. I have tried tightening the straps on the mask to hold it tighter to my face, but that merely causes it to dig in even more and does nothing to address the problem. And the sleep doctors and techs just keep telling me to readjust the mask even though I have told them this does NOT work.
  Folks, I am getting desperate. I'v been getting no more than a few hours of atrocious quality sleep nightly for months now. I am now at the mental state where I find myself staring at the keyboard wondering what I am supposed to press next.
  So I am bringing this problem to my fanspeak chums, one of the most diverse and knowledable groups I know of. Do any of you inventive folks out there have some viable ideas on how to make a CPAP mask fit at least comfortably enough to actually be able to fall asleep in it?

  I didn't realize that Dara was selling her new books on her website and I missed out on her last one. It is the only one of her books that I have not read.   Just a question. I've been on ebay and seen Dara's books offered there. The bids are outrageaous. Now my question: why do you not offer her books on EBAY. Just enroll in ebay offer the books for slighly more than you are currenly (to offset ebay charges). Offer so many books and that they need to be bought by "this date" and you will recieve it by "this date". You will get the profit and get a whole lot more readers. D

I think what disturbs me the most is that the seller has copyrighted pictures and her description is directly from this website. I hope permission was given.   hi everyone, newbie here, just wanted a shoulder to cry on. I live outside the US and i just love Dara Joy books! i accidentally discovered them in a used bookstore. i tried to order from amazon but the international shipping is too expensive. I found out about wildcats from this site and tried to order it but when i converted the US dollars into our currency, its way too expensive and out of my league. *sniff* I'm really saddened that a book could be an expensive luxury. any chance that Dara's books be converted to ebooks? usually ebooks cost similar to the paperback copy and I can live with that. i don't even have to pay shipping fees. i can download it directly to my computer to read. Dara, please consider converting your books to ebooks. please, please, please. you can still publish or turn out paperback copies; but ebooks are an alternative to people like me. OK *trying to pull myself together* I feel better after saying all that.

  Warning - If you can read this whole story without laughing out loud,
  
  then there's no hope for you. I was crying by the end.
  
  
  
  Note: Please take time to read this slowly. If you pay attention to the
  
  first two judges, the reaction of the third judge is even better.
  
  
  
  For those of you who have lived in Texas, you know how true this is. They
  
  actually have a chili cook-off about the time Halloween comes around. It
  
  takes up a major portion of a parking lot at the San Antonio city park.
  
  
  
  The notes are from an inexperienced chili taster named Frank, who was
  
  visiting from Springfield, IL.
  
  
  
  Frank: "Recently, I was honored to be selected as a judge at a chili
  
  cooking contest. The original person called in sick at the last moment and I
  
  happened to be standing there at the judge's table asking for directions to
  
  the Coors Light truck, when the call came in. I was assured by the other
  
  two judges (native Texans) that the chili wouldn't be all that spicy and,
  
  besides, they told me I could have free beer during the tasting, so I
  
  accepted." Here are the scorecards from the advent: (Frank is Judge #3)
  
  
  
  Chili # 1 Eddie's Maniac Monster Chili...
  
  
  
  Judge # 1 -- A little too heavy on the tomato. Amusing kick.
  
  Judge # 2 -- Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild.
  
  Judge # 3 -- (Frank) What the hell is this stuff?! You could remove dried
  
  paint from your driveway. Took me two beers to put out the flames. I hope
  
  that's the worst one. These Texans are crazy!
  
  
  
  Chili # 2 Austin's Afterburner Chili...
  
  
  
  Judge # 1 -- Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight jalapeno tang.
  
  Judge # 2 -- Exciting BBQ flavor; needs more peppers to be taken
  
  seriously.
  
  Judge # 3 -- Keep this out of the reach of children. I'm not sure what I'm
  
  supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people who wanted
  
  to give me the Heimlich maneuver. They had to rush in more beer when they
  
  saw the look on my face.
  
  
  
  Chili # 3 Ronny's Famous Burn Down the Barn Chili...
  
  
  
  Judge # 1 -- Excellent firehouse chili. Great kick. Needs more beans.
  
  Judge # 2 -- A beanless chili, a bit salty, good use of peppers.
  
  Judge # 3 -- Call the EPA. I've located a uranium spill. My nose feels like
  
  I have been snorting Drano. Everyone knows the routine by now. Get me more
  
  beer before I ignite Barmaid pounded me on the back, now my backbone is
  
  in the front part of my chest. I'm getting pie-eyed from all of the beer...
  
  
  
  Chili # 4 Dave's Black Magic...
  
  
  
  Judge # 1 -- Black bean chili with almost no spice. Disappointing.
  
  Judge # 2 -- Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish, or
  
  other mild foods; not much of a chili.
  
  Judge # 3 -- I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was unable
  
  to taste it. Is it possible to burn out taste buds? Sally, the barmaid, was
  
  standing behind me with fresh refills. That 300-lb. woman is starting to
  
  look HOT...just like this nuclear waste I'm eating! Is chili an aphrodisiac?
  
  
  
  Chili # 5 Lisa's Legal Lip Remover...
  
  
  
  Judge # 1 -- Meaty, strong chili. Cayenne peppers freshly ground,
  
  adding considerable kick. Very impressive.
  
  Judge # 2 -- Chili using shredded beef, could use more tomato. Must admit
  
  the cayenne peppers make a strong statement.
  
  Judge # 3 -- My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead, and I
  
  can no longer focus my eyes. I farted and four people behind me needed
  
  paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I told her that her chili
  
  had given me brain damage. Sally saved my tongue from bleeding by pouring
  
  beer directly on it from the pitcher. I wonder if I'm burning my lips off.
  
  It really pisses me off that the other judges asked me to stop screaming.
  
  Screw those rednecks.
  
  
  
  Chili # 6 Pam's Very Vegetarian Variety...
  
  
  
  Judge # 1 -- Thin, yet bold vegetarian variety chili. Good balance of spices
  
  and peppers.
  
  Judge # 2 -- The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, and garlic.
  
  Superb.
  
  Judge # 3 -- My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with gaseous,
  
  sulphuric flames. I pooped on myself when I farted and I'm worried it
  
  will eat through the chair! No one seems inclined to stand behind me anymore.
  
  I need to wipe my butt with a snow cone.
  
  
  
  Chili # 7 Carla's Screaming Sensation Chili...
  
  
  
  Judge # 1 -- A mediocre chili with too much reliance on canned peppers.
  
  Judge # 2 -- Ho-hum; tastes as if the chef literally threw in a can of chili
  
  peppers at the last moment. **I should take note that I am worried about
  
  Judge # 3. He appears to be in a bit of distress, as he is cursing uncontrollably.
  
  Judge # 3 -- You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and I
  
  wouldn't feel a thing. I've lost sight in one eye, and the world sounds like
  
  it is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chili, which slid
  
  unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are full of lava to match my shirt.
  
  At least during the autopsy, they'll know what killed me. I've decided to
  
  stop breathing; it's too painful. Screw it; I'm not getting any oxygen anyway.
  
  If I need air, I'll just suck it in through the 4-inch hole in my stomach.
  
  
  
  Chili # 8 Karen's Toenail Curling Chili...
  
  Judge # 1 -- The perfect ending, this is a nice blend chili. Not too
  
  bold, but spicy enough to declare its existence.
  
  Judge # 2 -- This final entry is a good, balanced chili. Neither mild,
  
  nor hot. Sorry to see that most of it was lost when Judge # 3 farted, passed
  
  out, fell over, and pulled the chili pot down on top of himself. Not sure if
  
  he's going to make it. Poor fella, wonder how he'd have reacted to really

  Three recently married men were sitting together
  bragging about how they had given their new wives a
  list of duties around the house.
  
  The first man had married a woman from Iowa, and
  bragged that he had told his wife she was going to be
  responsible for all of the dishes and house cleaning
  that needed done at their house. He said that it took
  a couple days but on the third day he came home to a
  clean house and the dishes were all washed and put
  away.
  
  The second man had married a woman from Indiana. He
  bragged that he had given his wife orders that she was
  to do all the cleaning, dishes, and the cooking. He
  told them that the first day he didn't see any
  results, but the next day was better. By the third
  day, his house was clean, the dishes were done, and he
  had a huge dinner on the table when he arrived home.
  
  The third man had married a girl from Arizona. He
  boasted that he told her that her duties were to keep
  the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry
  cleaned and folded, and hot meals on the table three
  times a day. He said the first day he didn't see
  anything, the second day he didn't see anything, but
  by the third day most of the swelling had gone down
  and he could see a little out of his left eye. Enough
  to fix himself a bite to eat, load the dishwasher, and
  telephone a landscaper.
