"Darwinism caused the holocaust?"

No, Hitler did. But Hitler believed in evolution and used it to justify exterminating millions of non-Aryans.

--

"Anti-semitism preceded Darwin’s life by thousands of years."

Racism has existed from the very beginning. Darwin's theory of evolution only dumped the fuel onto that fire in the 1800's.

--

"Hitler used the bible to justify his actions..."

The Bible does not teach Darwinism.

--

"...and christianity, most notably the roman catholic church with their famous ‘slight-of-hand’ morals, chose to look the other way. At the time, most of the non-catholic christian cults in the world were cheering the Nazis on."

I do not have the expertise in this part of world history to support or refute what you're saying. I would need to study this in depth to learn about what the Roman Catholic Church and other religions did or did not do in the wake of Nazi genocide. However what men (supposedly religious or not) have done in the past has no bearing on my decision to follow Christ.

--

"According to you, people who lacked “biblical discipline” wrote the bible."

All men are sinners, but that doesn't mean all men lack knowledge of the Bible.

--

"And you seem to have decided to excuse or ignore the authors hobby of torturing and killing innocent men, women and children for sport while they were being “divinely inspired”.

I never read the court records of the actual writers of the Bible. I'd like to see the copies you have.

--

"You just appear very susceptible to suggestion."

I am an educated person with an open mind, that's all. My faith in God is not a result of being duped. It is a result of seeking answers and becoming educated in the teachings of the Lord. The education I received brought me to the point to where I openly gave my life to the Lord. My life has never been the same.

--

"I’ll bet you’ve been suckered into “donating” money to various religious sleazoids over the years. And they probably convinced you crossing their palms with silver would bring you closer to God."

Nope. I've seen it and heard it all before, but did not put one penny into their hands. I know what will bring me closer to God, and it's not donating money to religious sleazoids.

--

"Which is an unqualified lie, since God is now, and always has been...absolutely free."

Amen. Those who will come to the Lord may drink freely of the fountain of life.

--

"So you’re an agnostic who found religion. I’ve never heard of a “converted” agnostic before..."

I once believed that although a god/creator may exist, I needed cold, hard evidence of his/her/its existence, which I was quite certain I'd never receive. Over a period of time, I came to know God. Now I know that He is the creator of all things. To take an educated, agnostic evolutionist and turn him into a child of God is by no means a simple task. I'm living proof that the Holy Spirit can move mountains.

--

"Fortunately for the rest of us, you’re almost certainly dead wrong."

I like that fact that you included the word "almost" above. That's a glint of hope. God took the "almost" in my agnosticism and turned it 180 degrees into a certainty.

--

"You conveniently overlook a few minor details missing from the bible like: The world is round; our solar system not the center of the universe; dinosaurs; oil; microorganisms; fusion; fission; plants and animals naturally adapting to environmental variables (evolving: one of God's better ideas), and so much more."

If you want to talk about fossil fuels, properties of the atom, microorganisms, and genetic mutation of plants and animals, I'll be happy to answer your questions. The bible does cover dinosaurs/dragons, but I hope you do not keep the door between you and your savior closed forever because the bible didn't answer your question about the magnetic quantum number of a plutonium atom's electron's orbital angular mommentum.

--

“I don’t persecute others. I don’t hurt others. I don’t join groups that impose their beliefs on others against their will. I don’t demand money for ‘supernatural protection’. I reject hate groups that attack complete strangers for profit..."

Those are all wonderful, christian-like attributes, but it's not enough to save you from hell.

--

"...according to you, this makes me “gripped” by satan.

No. What Satan loves is when people fall short of seeing the glory of God because they can't see beyond the sin of man.

--

"Since christians regularly do all of the above, I suspect that shoe is on the other foot."

Christians, like all men since the beginning of time, commit sins. Just because someone calls themself a Christian and then leads a life of murder and mayhem is no reason to think that leading a Christian life would be a fruitless endeavor for yourself, or for others.

--

"You keep suggesting it isn’t the bible that’s wrong, it’s man’s interpretation of the bible. Today, right this minute, I can walk into 5 different christian churches and hear 5 different interpretations of the bible."

Yes, you probably will, which is why it is important to find the right church/minister.

--

"Once you add the myriad of interpretations of the other eastern religions, you have a bloodbath looking for a place to happen. This is a truth that has been driven home numerous times already in this infant century. Eastern religions, including christianity, have proven themselves to be the breeding grounds of some of the world’s purest evil."

There's no doubt that a leading cause of war is religion.

--

"Your precious bible is nothing but smoke and mirrors."

Unfortunately, a "whoops" isn't going to save you from that comment on the Day of Judgement.

--

"Millions have died as a direct or indirect result of this book."

If the Apostles themselves were killed for their Christian beliefs, then you can be sure others have died as well. But the glorious fate of martyrs is told of in Revelations. Non-believers who died because of the Biblical misinterpretations of their crusading slayers died at the hands of men. Does that make the Bible wrong, God wrong, or men wrong?

--

"It’s been proven time and again, when christians aren’t kept in check, they invariably turn into a lynch-mob. Every time you idiots go on some half-assed “crusade”, it’s people like me who have to protect your chosen victims. And no, I’m not an activist, I merely reinforce the misgivings of people who think you and your buddies sound really unstable and scary to begin with -- a remarkably simple thing to do since very few people trust religious people to begin with."

Again, you're lumping all Christians into one, giant mob of barbaric, mind-warping cusaders. Yes, there are some real freaks out there, and there are plenty of christians of negotiable virtue, but I and many others are not like that. We don't ask for money. We don't get all up in people's faces. We simply take the Bible from a literal standpoint. We know it doesn't tell us to kill. We know it doesn't tell us to steal. We live humbly according to the teachings of Jesus, and try to bring others to the knowledge of salvation when opportunities arise.

That is why I am here.

Tom
